Nobody even comes close to Nintendo when it comes to level design. From Software has some of the most forgettable level design i've ever encountered. Never played a single Souls game for the level design. Even after Nintendo there's about 3 dozens other developers who destroy From Software in level design. Eidos Montreal, Arkane, even Rocksteady.

@@spirosbotos9967 There is a GI writer who almost never gives a game a great review and a "buy it" rating, yet has written and said that this game is in the next Souls-Bigger, Skyrim-like game of it's own, with a good story, multiple endings, etc. and recommended this game! That told me to pre-order, along with conversing with a couple of Dark Souls Lore creators getting more hyped and though a Souls Veteran, had debated Pre-Ordering, till I heard the comments by those people, plus. Hoping for a 9/10 and a close to, if not a 10/10, once all is tweaked up! I do wish I'd bought a console version versus PC, right off, but the few PC issues, too, will be fixed. Now this is an open world! Ubisoft take notes. I'm glad games like Zelda BotW helped expand the tired open world formula. Other games like Divinity Original Sin 2 also have this immense freedom to it as well. I'm really excited about how there are so many ways to get to reach each objective and that you can entirely skip out on large portions of content. It sounds backwards but it helps make your experience of the game more personal. I did the same with Zelda and didn't even reach one of the main towns. That game had lots of things you discovered by accident. This game looks like it is taking those elements and really rolling with it. The big dungeons are stuff of dreams! They look so complex and full of wonder. I'm really excited to explore one of them. I'm glad this is getting good scores across the board and that reviewers are pointing out the exploration aspect. Hopefully publishers/devs start creating open world games worth exploring.

The game cheats & unnecessarily frustrates you; there's no story, as usual, so not sure what George R R Martin has done in this collaboration. It all depends on repeating the same sequences and building muscle memory, but you know what I would do instead if I had so much time? I would learn to play an instrument and leverage muscle memory for something useful, not this nonsense! Graphics are dated, the gameplay is the same nonsense from 15 years ago and it's buggy as hell! With DS 1 they set the bar for what a linear action RPG should be. With DS 2 and Miyazaki being less involved, they took a misstep. When bloodborne came around, Miyazaki raised the bar again. DS 3 saw Fromsoft once again showing there class creating something that capped off the souls series in an awesome way. With Sekiro, many people had high expectations, Fromsoft once again met and exceeded those expectations creating a work of art. With Elden Ring it seems they are pushing the genre forward and raising the bar again.

It's a good game, I enjoyed it a lot at the time, especially considering not a lot else came out that year. Will I ever play it again? Probably not. When your ONE "misstep" is "oops we made only a good game instead of a masterpiece" I think it's safe to say the studio can do no wrong. Probably the best example of the insane false dichotomy of media takes people have on the internet. Something either has to be the best thing ever or garbage, there's no in-between. It can't "just" be good, because a 7 or 8 out of 10 is worthless and not worth playing, apparently. Miss me with that bullshit.

I've been in since the dark souls 1 on PC. To the new people who don't know it, ds1 PC only got a release because From responded to a fan petition, and then literally had to apologize for bugs and missing settings because they had never done PC development before. The fans patched it. I wound up quitting when I got to gwyn, because I never want that adventure to be over. I'll do it when I'm retired. I've killed the queen, the moon presence, orphan of kos, issin, soul of cinder, Gael, but not gwyn. I don't know if I'll beat whoever the final boss of elden ring is either.

i think people forget all the great stuff you can do in botw, with the chemical system and gravity, all the stuff you can do with sheika slate etc... all the puzzle and how you can approch the game in many different way... combat is not the main focus of the game and its still damn fun, still one of the best game ever made in its own way... just like it seem here with elden ring, a great software house take is game desing craften in year of experience and mixed it with the open world genre to create something really special.

It's still gonna be mostly linear, it's still gonna have simple af puzzles, it's still gonna have predictable and unexciting treasures, it's still gonna have 5+ hours of non-interactive cutscenes between gameplay, etc.

“Not every game.” Literally every masterpiece game these days is a fantasy RPG. The only based game we get is RDR2. So yes, it sucks for you right now if you’re not into fantasy monsters & magic. When you grow up you’ll want something true to life too & not just 100 different fantasy RPGs.

@@gamerhours2815 It’s clear that’s where most franchises are headed. I don’t mind having fantasy RPGs out there I just don’t think it’s fair to assume all gamers want fantasy RPG & therefore that’s the majority of what we get. Assassins creed is basically fantasy RPG now. Just because we are forced to buy them & play them (or stop gaming altogether) does not mean it’s what we want. There is literally nothing I dislike about ER other than the fantasy aspect. Turn every “monster” encounter into a human encounter & I’ll probably love it just as much as RDR2.

You need to clarify in the heading that you are talking about the PC version only here. The console version is an unknown until it launches. They are claiming framerates will be fixed but it seems doubtful based on From Software's total disregard towards patching a game post launch to fix issues.
