    I started Elden Ring Oct 2023. Never played on a PlayStation or used a game controller. So I bought one. I completed Ranni’s Quest early Feb 2024. Just completed Frenzied Flame ending, now started Fia’s Quest NG+3. To become Elden Lord. I have pre-ordered DLC and so excited about it. I have all the legendary talismans, weapons , sorceries and incantations etc. I am 63 in May this year and my grandson thinks I’m the greatest grandma ever! Come on gamers, for all of you who are struggling with Elden Ring… If I can do it anyone can.

    I spent about 200 hours in my first play through on Series X so when I finished Malenia I was all done for about a year and a half. Then when I got my PS5 I thought I’ll buy another copy and do a second run in anticipation of the DLC… I’m about 70 hours into this one. It is EVERY BIT as amazing as the first time. Ugh. I love it.

    I'm so close to buying Elden Ring for my PS5, after completing the game a month or two ago on the Steam Deck(224 hours to complete and currently 250 hours). Every day I want to return to the Lands Between....but damn that game got infuriatingly hard at times lol. It was absolutely brutal. I do think it will be an advantage to play on a 50" TV instead of a 7" screen though.

    Absolutely do not change the story telling. I love Lies Of P as well, but this formula Elden Ring uses has been its fundamentals through the whole Dark Souls franchise. If you want a story based souls like, they're plenty to play. However, there is only one Elden Ring, so lets not tamper with it.

    I absolutely agree with you about spirit summons. They're in the game for a reason. If you don't want to use them. Don't. But Miyazaki said this was to get the most approachable Souls game. And, for a reason. They made it to appeal to both longtime players but new initiates...those seeking extremely hard challenges and those who want help. And there's crossover in all categories. It seems some people don't want Soul's games to be playable by those they describe as casuals. This is a ploy to keep Soul's games as niche games with the reputation of being too incredibly hard that only the best hard-core gamers are up to the challenge. So, they have a list of things they say "real gamers" would never do. Can't use magic. Can't cheese a boss off a cliff. Can't summon, spirit or otherwise. No farming...which isn't just for runes and levels but for items, so they can stuff it. No bleed builds. No tank builds. It would be better to get a list of what these "superior" players think is ok. Bottom line, this gatekeeping only exists to push people away and limit those playing the game to those they think are worthy. They call themselves pros and veterans and whatever. I'm longtime Soul's player, since 2009. I platinum my games and help others. I want more people playing. And if the game allows it and it's legitimate, then play you're way. Imagine missing out on the fun of summoning.

  • @Stuphy1147

    @Stuphy1147

    I totally agree with your statement, and I want everyone to play souls games and not gatekeep it. That being said, using summons makes the game much less enjoyable and it seriously stunts skill growth, and even though I believe there's no wrong way to play this game and every way is very fun, being good at the game makes it way more fun

  • @HijoDelHongo

    @HijoDelHongo

    3 ай бұрын

    Meh, the gate keeping for the souls game you listed is absolutely real. But it's not as big as its made out to be. The people saying that stuff a small minority that are very vocal & meme comments from people who actually don't follow those rules. I didn't use summoning at all in my first playthrough. I used them in my second to try them, then didn't use them again. It's in the game, use it if you want. If someone complains about it, unless they were a lead game designer for Elden Ring (literally the most awarded game ever), then their opinions are just a standard dumb internet opinion.

    I think the brilliance of elden ring is that they made the game so appealing for souls veterans and new players. They kept the same souls DNA, added new mechanics and made it open world, and added an “easy mode” by allowing you to summon. They did such a great job of making a game to appeal to new and veteran players, and that’s a big reason why it did so well imo.

  • @kgfire247

    @kgfire247

    4 ай бұрын

    It's this kind of opinion that made Dark Souls so unappealing to a lot of gamers. Summoning is certainly not 'easy mode' for most gamers, and to suggest so is nonsense. Elitist comments like this are what put most people off as it makes normal gamers feel inadequate in some way. No one should feel like they're resorting to easy mode when they're just using an intended game mechanic in an intentionally difficult game. FYI no one is impressed that you're too good at From Soft games to lower yourself to using summons

  • @brock5786

    @brock5786

    @@kgfire247 I complimented the game for making it more accessible for new players by adding a mechanic that makes the game easier. I never at any point said using summons is wrong. I think summons are a great thing. How am I being elitist? In your reply you assumed that I’m judging someone for using summons by calling it “easy mode”, which I never actually did. Calling it “easy mode” doesn’t mean I’m judging players…

    I like to play games on "easy mode". I like rpgs and stories, but i get anxiety when i have to sweat through a game; an extreme challenge provides stress for me, not enjoyment. One thing i liked about Elden Ring is that I could virtually do whatever I wanted to level up and make bosses/areas easier. I put in at least 100 hours trying to cheese as much as I could. Died a lot, but wasnt put off the game, since I could just go do something else. I still wish there was an easy mode selector, but this was the next best thing.

    @@SynathidyI’ve never really understood this perspective. No one can measure someone’s enjoyment of a game because it’s entirely subjective. I also never said I was going to go back and replay the other games either, they just aren’t for me. I think my 300 plus hours of gameplay would say that I enjoy this game just as much as someone who beats it SL1.

    @@Synathidyand I’ve obviously learned how to play the games because I’ve best eldren ring 3 times so far. Just because I used spirit ashes or ashes of war means something bad? I don’t understand, do you think the devs put all these amazing abilities in the game for no one to use? Everyone enjoys things differently. You can’t look down on other players due to how they enjoy the game. I’m just happy the game is successful and I think it’s cool people do crazy hard runs with self imposed rules. I also think it’s cool that you can come back to a hard boss later to have an easier time.

    Please don't suggest FromSoft change how they approach story telling. We don't need more hand holding, spoon fed type games. We love their games for a reason and appreciate the open to interpretation nature of the game. Then we have awesome youtubers like VaatiVidya that can break down the story if we wanna look into it. Elden Ring is an absolute classic for a reason and the other games were also amazing, not really sure they need to change much. FromSoft goes their own route and I appreciate that a ton. We don't need them to start doing what other devs do all the damn time lol

    I have been looking at Elden Ring since it came out. Seen friends play it, but I never really been a souls like type of person. The only ones I really played were Life of P and BloodBorne and only got halfway. I've been thinking of trying it for my steam deck, but is it worth the money for someone new to the series. I know you die constantly, but is it harder than other souls' games for newcomers to the genre? I do like a challenge, tho.

Little did i know, i was about to have the greatest gaming experience in the world since my first time playing final fatasy 3 (6) about 30 years ago. Elden Ring's one of if not the best game I've ever played as a decades long gamer and I admittedly have never been interested enough to delve deep in the lore or story. I think I like the mystery element to it all, it's like Aliens, you know F*** all about them in the first few films, but the more that's explained, the less interesting they become. Don't know if that analogy fits that well. Oh well.

    Elden Ring was my first "souls" game. I usually play games for a great story and narrative. However, Elden Ring was absolutely something special, even though there wasn't a traditional story and narrative. This is an amazing game. I restarted a new character to get back my "muscle memory" to get ready for the Shadow of the Erd Tree expansion.

    Honestly I don’t think a lot of elden ring holds up completely. It’s a good game but the game itself feels lackluster once the world is no longer mysterious and the bosses don’t feel like they hold the same level of satisfaction as past titles that I would get from say father Gascoigne, O&S, or abyss watchers. That said I have dlc preordered because it’ll be awesome and working on a character to take through the dlc since my first character is on ng+4

I played on PC the first time round, but iv decided to switch to PS5 for Shadow of the Erdtree, so I'm getting the Platinum/100% on my second platform now. What an incredible game. I've played all of the FromSoftware souls games, including BB and Sekiro, but Elden Ring is definitely my favourite when it comes to relaxing and doing a quick boss run.

I don't have time for games that unfairly punish me. Elden Ring taught me to learn patterns and systems and to take my time. I loved it so much ive played it 5 times now. And I'm 15 hours into Bloodborne and im loving that too. Because of ER i just understand what's expected of me. I get it. And i love how Fromsoft make games. ER deserves to have sold 50m copies. 20m just doesn't sound enough. What's wrong with people!? 😂

    I wish I played Elden Ring before Sekiro. Not having the perfect parry mechanic with any weapon I want to use really ruined my experience. I hate dodge rolling combat compared to perfect parry combat. And no, using a shield in Elden to parry isn't even close to the parry in Sekiro. I want to parry using my sword without a shield bash delay.
