My sisters funeral was on the 30th January 2024 she passed with sepsis on NYE 2023 , bless her, she had drawn up her own funeral plan and this was her chosen song....since that day , Its constantly on my mind, I hear it , I feel the emotional memories but so thankful that Our Carol chose this beautiful, dramatic song. It certainly makes the back of my neck and arms tingle and shiver. Thank you to Elbow for producing such a beautiful song it blows my mind every time I hear it ❤

My Nan said she wanted this at her funeral when it came out. Made me tear up a lot. She’s still here now. She’s 97 and dementia has fully kicked in. She knows who I am but if I go to hers with my mum, she recognises us both but asks how long we’ve known each other for. She retreats back to her 20’s and says things like “oh how funny seeing you both here! We must go for dinner together tonight!” All the while she’s in her bed, frail as a dawn. We play this to her now and she faces us with confusion, aggression and denial. I understand that it’s how it goes. Another song is Coldplay fix you. Because when my mum came home (8 years ago when they Deterioration began, this was on the radio. My poor mum sobbed like no sob I’ve ever seen.) Music is beautiful and holds STRONG in the heart and mind.

The Holy Spirit has to find new ways to reach us in the 21st century - we are a tough audience for Him/It. But He/It is up to the task. God loves us, His love, mercy and forgiveness is everywhere and Jesus promised that, when he returned to Heaven, His place would be taken by the Paraclete - sent from the Father, speaking the words of the Son and available to everybody, not just a few lucky ones in Israel. 2000 years later, the Spirit of Truth is still at work, but - paradoxically - His/Its chances are GREATER now, because the genius in art and music that can be inspired can go everywhere... We just have to "see" what we are actually seeing. Thanks be to God, I do!

Same here. As an Aussie this song was long forgotten to me. And then discovered it at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert - which I thought was OK. And then I found the extended versions from various festivals. Wow what an amazing song. And this version is close to the greatest sing-along song I've seen. I cried for no particular reason - just such an emotion laden song/lyrics as someone now on the wrong side of 60.

With the Holy Spirit. Maybe He enjoys the challenge of all those people there claiming not to need God. So he injects God's love and truth and meaning into British song after British song after British song. Sad-happy transcending songs come from there. SEE THE LIGHT, this is WHY we throw the curtain wide, of course! In the dreadful year that is 2022, He again let the British take the lead in showing how beautiful the world might still be with the poetic order, beauty and love of Her Majesty's funeral ... As contrasted with the useless politicians. The message was and is clear...
