시놉시스: 루브르 박물관 3대 작품이라고 하는 ‘밀로의 비너스’는 수많은 방문객을 사로잡는 대스타다. 기원전 130년에 제작된 2미터가 넘는 대작인 이 그리스 조각상은 1820년 에 밀로스섬의 농부에 의해 발견되었고, 프랑스 대사가 그를 설득해 루이 18세에게 헌납하여 오늘에 이르렀다. 여인의 이상적인 아름다움을 담으면서도 관능적인 성적 가치를 표현하는 밀로의 비너스는 후대인에게 많은 상상력을 자극한다. 다큐멘터리는 정보성이 풍부한 동시에 숭고하고도 관능적인 몸을 경탄하며 바라보는 수많은 얼굴들을 미학적으로 병치한다. 흑백 아카이브 필름에서 추출한 쇼트와 새롭게 촬영한 쇼트를 뒤섞은 몽타주는 미와 사랑의 여신 비너스에 대한 환상을 강화한다. 페미니스트들은 이상화된 여성성의 아이콘이 되어버린 비너스를 새롭게 바라본다. 정보성, 재미, 교육성이 골고루 잘 갖추어진 작품이다.
Venus of Milo, one of the three major artworks of the Louvre, is a big star that attracts numerous visitors. The Greek sculpture, a masterpiece over two meters
tall made in 130 B.C., was discovered by a farmer on the island of Milos in 1820, and the French ambassador persuaded him to dedicate it to Louis XVIII. Venus of Milo, which expresses sexual values while portraying the ideal beauty of a woman, stimulates imaginations for future generations. This richly informative documentary aesthetically juxtaposes numerous faces that marvel at the sublime yet sensual body. The montage, a mixture of shorts extracted from black and white archival films and newly filmed shorts, strengthens the illusion of Venus, the goddess of beauty and love. Feminists take a fresh look at Venus, which has become an icon of idealized femininity. The film is well-balanced with informative, entertaining, and educative elements.
