Home Made beef and ale pie with a top crust pastry, home grown potatos mashed in butter, cabbage, carrots, peas with beef stock and ale gravy topped up with some cabbage water ❤

Just made this for lunch. VERY tasty. I grated a bit of lemon zest at the end too. You're right about the chilli flakes, gives it a little kick without being too OTT. Top marks fella 👌

Great to see you back Adam. I like to add a bit of water now to my frying onions to get them nice and soft. Then boil the water away and then they are done ready to brown to your desire :).

I always advocate whole plum tomatoes in recipes. Chopped tomatoes are remnants from post-processing and are lower quality. Makes a huge difference in a dish like this where it's 50% tomato flavour. Great to have you back Adam! ❤

I totally agree! When you buy whole tomatoes in tins, there are sometimes lumps of skin (which you may or may not want) plus often I find greenish lumps on the sides of the tomatoes which I guess are some sort of injury or disease, so I cut them out. I have never bought chopped tomatoes and remember watching in horror when a TV chef used a sharp knife to 'chop' the tomatoes in the tin before tipping them straight into the cooking pan without examining what is in the tin! In recent years the quality of whole tinned tomatoes has improved, maybe because most of the low quality and damaged ones go into 'chopped tomatoes' and passata.

Welcome back Adam! Have a nice New Years Eve! I will be stuffing myself with "Oliebollen" and "Appelbeignets", as per Dutch tradition! Also a cheeseplank(It's big! 10 cheese's) will be on the table, supplemented with meats, salads, fruits and nuts! Next week will be very simple foods. Spending it all on 1 night, meaning macaroni for days. But worth it for cheese!

That is a very tasty dish, hungover or not! Good to see you back. Our new year's dinner was bacon, onions, and some leftover chips (and brown sauce, what else). Not that common here in Sweden, but it was lovely! Samuel Smith's Pale Ale in the glass. Don't worry, we opened a bottle of bubbly later, swearing at the falling snow as we drank it...

With toast or corn tortillas is extra nice. We will be having chicken enchiladas rojas, roasted stuffed jalapenos, Five Star deluxe pizza, with beer & boozy limeade, and for dessert, French apple cake. And, tomorrow we will have black-eyed peas-hoppin' john and cornbread (TexMex style) - a meal for security, prosperity and good fortune. Thank you for the video and recipe! been making this for years as a hangover "cure" although I've known it as shakshuka and not by this name. I do it with some toasted cumin seeds at the start and crumbled feta cheese at the end. great stuff and welcome back!

Whack in some chopped red/green peppers at the beginning with the onions and you've pretty much got a classic, middle-eastern Shakshuka! Which is great for brekkie, lunch or yer tea/supper. (I go for max style marks and make hollows in the sauce with the back of a ladle and drop the raw eggs into those.)

Similar yeah, shakshuka uses warm spices like cumin and paprika whereas eggs in purgatory uses chilli, basil and parmesan. Secret is good eggs, and if you can get canned San marzano tomatoes even better

Just a small tip for adding the eggs. Break egg into a ladle, push down into mixture and rotate the ladle , leaving the egg in the depresion you made.

Very similar, difference is shakshuka uses warm spices like cumin and paprika. 😋

Good to see you back, and I will do a simple Lamb Cutlets, with a Spinach and Cranberry Mash with Carrots and Tenderstem Broccoli. And Ginger Sponge Pudding and White Sauce.

Great videio Adan, so galad you are back!. I keep seing simiaar recipes and really fancy trying this. The only drawback for me is the squishing up of plum tomatoes - I only buy the plum tomatoes in tins then put each tomato on my chopping board to cut out the weird green manky bits for the compost. If you squish them you will never know if there are manky bits! Am I fussy or what!

G'day Adam. Happy New Year mate. I hope you have a prosperous year ahead with good health. I really should make this dish. It's been on the 'Round To It' long enough and well over a year. It's such a simple ingredient dish and can be made for 1-10 people as I observed someone else who was using a Paella pan. There's something therapeutic about squishing tinned tomatoes by hand. A bit like stomping grapes. By adding a good glug of Tobasco sauce just before serving you'd have Eggs in Hell. Nice one Adam 👍🤤😀 Cheers.

It's definitely a crowd feeder. Any leftover sauce would be ace on cooked pasta as well
