Hey folks! This episode has a little bit of screwy audio for myself and MetalCommander, OBS did a massive on me and the settings were changed between recordings. I have tried to edit them to sound a bit better but theres a bit of clipping and quietness. EFAP Is coming on Sunday at 7pm GMT, we shall see you there!

that hydrogen cyanide scene is ridiculous from a scientific perspective. Here’s why: 1. “think hydrogen. It burns.” Just because you have hydrogen in something doesn’t mean automatically that it’ll burn. Think Water (h2o) - doesn’t burn very well. That being said, hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is indeed flammable, so I guess Luke got lucky. 2. they are not surviving this: The chemical reaction for it burning in air is as follows: 4HCN+5O2=4CO2 + 2N2 + 2H2O. This means that burning 4 parts of HCN requires 5 parts of oxygen and the burn results in 4 parts of CO2, 2 parts of water and 2 parts of nitrogen. What this means is if you burn the entire room full of HCN at 6%, you’ve accomplished in doing the following: * increased CO2 concentration to 6%. (CO2 is toxic to humans at 5%) AND * reduce the concentration of O2 in the room by 6%*5/4=7.5%, which, even if we assume that the room started off at 21% o2 despite the HCN increase, would reduce O2 content of the room to 13.5%, WAYYY below the 19% necessary for human breathing. So after the burn they’re in a closed room with unbreathable atmosphere. Awesome. Very effective. 3. Of course this all ignores the fact that 6% concentration of HCN is about 300 times the lethal dose, so they’re both dead anyway. There’s a reason they use HCN in executions.

I'm curious about the conditions of the reaction you cited above. I came up wtih: 4HCN + O2 → 2C2N2 + 2H2O Source: chemiday.com/en/reaction/3-1-0-3736 This reaction takes place around150C and silver is a good catalyst. At 150C, both of them would have scorched skin and lungs as the air temperature would be significantly effected. Either way, you're perfectly right that this scenario is total bull and the writers ought to be ashamed of themselves. HCN is super effective in killing and you're also quite right about human sensitvity to CO2 concentrations. They showed that beautifully in the Apolo13 film. A few more fun facts from a fellow neeeeerd: There would be lasting effects because HCN binds to cytochrome C oxidase in the mitochondria meaning the effecting cells cannot use O2 to produce ATP and thus death occurs. It takes 30 min for the body to metabolise it if death doesn't occur, depending of course on the dosage. I'm not a medical doctor, but I would speculate a wide range of side effects from breathing some of that in, particularly in the CNS and cardiovascular systems which are the most sensitive to O2 starvation. Oh, here, I looked it up: www.cdc.gov/niosh/ershdb/emergencyresponsecard_29750038.html Yeah, LOTS of symptoms requiring professional treatment. Wow, never thought I'd be having a chemistry conversation on MooLer. This is awesome! But BW still sucks.

What I don’t understand is why that Alice is mad at her dad instead of the woman who admitted to her face that she tricked him into believing that she was dead in the first place, what’s even more baffling is that same woman still works at her job instead of being arrested for tampering with evidence.

Imagine going to a highschool/college reunion only to find that you're the only one there. But wait! There's a nametag missing from the table, and alphabetically you can tell that it belongs to one of your closest friends. A door opens, and reveals... ...a girl half your age that you've never met before, wearing your friend's nametag. When you ask about it, she brushes it off by saying that she's your friend's estranged niece, and he couldn't make it...and she doesn't seem to think it's weird at all that she showed up instead. But, she _is_ a relative to your good friend (and also the only person there), and she seems to be making the effort to talk to you, so you try and make the best of this bizarre night. Unfortunately, things don't go very well. She claims to not only be in the exact same line of work as your friend, but also that she's accomplished what took him _years_ in a matter of weeks. The urge to PRESS X TO DOUBT intensifies, but you want to keep things civil. That gets harder when she keeps making insulting remarks about your friend, ranging from everything to his absence at this event to the scope of his work accomplishment. She even acts like she's somehow doing him, and you, a favor by having shown up. Your patience is wearing thin, but then there's a glimmer of hope: she mentions another of your classmates by name, and _wow_ does it bring back memories. She was gorgeous, athletic, charismatic, the whole package. You were never involved with her, but you seem to remember that she and your friend had _something_ going on between them. Unfortunately, you snap back to reality as your friend's niece just shrugs that she has no idea what your old classmate is up to nowadays, or whether she'd be coming to the reunion. This process repeats a couple times. This girl seems to know a handful of names of your classmates, but nothing of substance about any of them. You're getting suspicious that she just looked at the nametags and is dropping random names to keep you talking to her in spite of how increasingly insufferable you find her. That longwinded analogy is how Batwoman approaches worldbuilding. The school is Gotham: inexplicably devoid of any of the people you'd expect would actually be there (ranging from law enforcement to villains), and the one person there besides you is a weirdo you don't know that seems to think being a relative to one of your classmates entitles her to not only attend _your_ class reunion, but to attend even when he doesn't.

A few things about this episode: (1) When Luke is talking about the different forms of capital punishment in Gotham he mentions electric chair, firing squad and gas chambers. When he mentions the firing squad he says Mayor Cobblepot (the Penguin) brought it back during his time in office. Mayors can not decide what form of capital punishment happens in the city. The Governor of the state decides what form of capital punishment is put on murders. (2) The Arkham Thing actually relates to also the crossover episodes that happened in December of 2018 before Batwoman was a show when she guess starred on Arrow and Flash. The cameo technically takes place between episode 4 and 5 of this showing we see this “Arkham Breakout” (3) So Lucius Fox is dead. And apparently Luke Fox mentions a new Commissioner’s name. So they’re no James Gordon. Also the point about Alfred... the press release for an upcoming episode has something coming up. Don’t want to spoil it.

Man the biometric scanner part annoyed me so much. You're absolutely right that most have eye scanners, but a more fundamental problem is that they usually work off bone structure and prominent facial features, the same way facial recognition does. You can't just slap someone's face on with gorilla glue and expect that to fool a biometric system, cuz your face will still be the same shape underneath. If scanners worked of the surface on someone's face, and not the structure, you'd have to re-calibrate every scanner depending on lighting and hardware, as the way light bounces off objects can seriously hamper a computer's ability to classify it. And i was gonna go on about the cyanide shit as well but it appears someone has already broke down why that is dumb as hell and would just burn up all the oxygen in the room, not to mention it would've been lethal well before that point. And i'm not even gonna mention the suit's impression shit with the truck. I would be here all day. I mean, i'm not expecting 100% scientific or technological accuracy from a CW show, but i would expect a least a modicum of research into these topics before writing entire plots around them.

So, hydrogen cyanide kills a human in under a minute at a concentration of 0.2%. It's explosive at a concentration of about 6%. Either the concentration isn't high enough for Batwoman to get rid of the hydrogen cyanide by burning it, so the two of them slowly get poisoned to death, or alternativeley the concentration is high enough and kills them both with a single breath, while Batwoman is trying to interogate her dying father.

Third and this is just insane he somehow builds or pays someone to build steel doors that would seal the room upon his death and trigger gas being pumped into the room without anyone noticing these being installed, just what?

Honestly, the luckiness of correctly getting that number is atrocious. Let’s disregard that whole magic twin crap. A phone number is 10 digits in the US, and each digit has the chance of being one of ten numbers, so the number of possible phone numbers is 10 to the tenth power, also known as 10 BILLION. To give some perspective; if a robot generates a 10 digit number every second, it would take that robot a little over 317 YEARS to generate every possible 10 digit number. That’s at 1 number per second. She guessed something with the odds of 1 in 10 BILLION correct on her FIRST TRY. Though given the writing quality of this show, this impossible convenience is to be expected.

The room is filling with dihydrogen monoxide, the operative word is hydeogen, just wait til its full enough and you can ignite it like the Hindenburg. All compounds with hydrogen are flammable.

*Show wants to constantly provide horribly one-sided social commentary and constantly dictate what is objectively right and what is objectively wrong. *Show has a main character that lets a psychopathic serial killer go for literally no reason on every basis. How did no one in the writers room catch this.

34:19. " what was she shot with? Hollow point, blackout, wadcutter..." The first and last are variations of ammo types. You can have 45-70 hollow points or wadcutters. But you can't have blackout. As far as I can tell, blackout only refers to the .300 blackout which is popular for AR 15 uppers. And the blackout can have hollow points, JHP, ammo piercing, etc. The question is dumb. Get better show. And I paused this, so I don't know if Ra'g""$ responds to it.
