Eddie Hall vs Big Z || Who's STRONGER?! (Static strength)

This video was just made for a bit of fun. Only competition lifts were used because at the end of the day gym lifts don't count.

Due to the number of people complaining about my comparison of the squat in this video, here's an explanation as to why I believe their squat was pretty equal: 1. In the 2 clips shown from 2014 and 2017 they had slightly different setups. Big Z did indeed squat more weight, however Eddie had a harder setup with the foam pads. The foam pads would have reduced the amount of bounce at the bottom of the squat. Since there's no way of measuring how much the foam pads would have changed the momentum of bar, its hard to know exactly how much of an advantage Big Z would have gotten with the bare steel safeties. 2. They have both beaten each other in the squat. In the clip from 2014 Big Z beat Eddie by 1 rep, and in the clip from 2017 Eddie beat Big Z by 2 reps. However in both scenarios neither Big Z or Eddie were at their prime when they were beaten. When Eddie lost to Big Z in 2014 he came 6th at WSM and he hadn't even broken the deadlift record at that point. So I don't think its impossible to think that Eddie from 2016/2017 could have probably squeezed out an extra rep on that event if it were to be repeated. Similarly, Big Z was not at his peak in 2017 when he lost to Eddie in the squat. He had been battling with injuries and this was his comeback to WSM after taking over a year out from competition. So it wouldn't be fair on Big Z to use that squat clip as a true representation of his squat strength. 3. A 15 rep squat set is a poor way of demonstrating who's stronger. Frankly I shouldn't have included the squat in this comparison for that exact reason. It's very hard to gauge who is actually the better squatter for maximum weight as a set of 15 reps is more a test of endurance than actual strength (at least in my opinion).

Honestly I’m a massive Eddie fan but could anyone really beat big z in his prime his the OG Beast and would loved to see them battle it out both in there prime there was really no one to push big z in static lifts in his prime he just did enough to win so I fill we never see what he could really do

Tiro Mandal but like I say big z never really had anyone to really push him maybe shahlaei when it came to squatting I believe at that time big z had a couple of dead lift record that later on would be beaten by numerous people and was know where near Eddies over head big z made 228 or maybe 229kg log press look easy I think he could have done maybe 10kg more maybe even 20kg I know he wanted to be the first man to press 500lb a record that still stands now I believe big z could squat and deadlift much more then he ever did but why risk injury in a competition when often he didn’t need the points second or third place would do also often it was for reps or the weight would be increased each round so why push he would just do enough to win over all on the other hand Eddie had some great competition on all events biby Thor oberst benny shaw to name a few I just wonder how big z would have really stacked up against them in his prime we will never really know shaw did beat him a number of times so it’s really hard to say if only we could stick them in a time machine and find out lol

How can u not add the squat it's one of the main lifts in strongman history and big z was squaring over 10kilos heavier than Eddie hall so if u had to calculate with big z squat then its pretty obvious that big z is the winner .besides the fact that he was 4 time world's strongest man

Why Big Z is the Strongest man in history, some food for thought: Big Z first Podiumed (2nd) at WSM in 2002 at 26 years old, he first won the ASC in 2003 at 27 years old. *EVERY YEAR* from 2002 - 2016 Big Z either finished in the top two at WSM or won the ASC. To my knowledge, he is the oldest to podium at WSM at 39 years old (losing in 2015 to a peak 33 yo Brian Shaw who won again in 2016). To my knowledge, he's also the oldest to win doing so in 2014 at 38. Also, he is the oldest winner of the ASC at 40 years old in 2016 (beating out Brian Shaw in a nail bitter by 1 point, a last one up to his younger competitor and a worthy send off to his career at the top) *Zydrunas trophy haul:* 4 WSM titles 6 2nd place WSM finishes (4 of which he lost by 3.5 point or less) 8 ASC titles (12 podium finishes out of his 12 times competing) 3 Europe's strongest man titles (4 podiums and 4th in 2018 at 42 years young) 14 Lithuania's Strongest man titles over 3 decades (17 podiums out of 17 times competing) Has won 82 contests and reached the podium 124 times or an average of 6.2 podiums a year over his 20 year career (1998-2018). *Records & power lifting:* Zydrunas broke the Lithuanian powerlifting all time record in his second ever meet and finished 2nd to Brad Gillingham at the world powerlifting championship. He at one point held at least 11 strongman records setting all but 1 of them in contests he went on to win (the exception was a 2nd place finish in WSM 2011). He still holds the hummer tire deadlift record and log press record, while also of note was his axle press world record broken by Eddie Hall in 2016 (who fair enough placed 2nd to Hafthor). As with many strongmen there is a large what if factor to Zydrunas, he certainly had more in the tank with all his world records and also never truly went all out in his prime on a traditional strongman deadlift. In my eyes he could have sacrificed his overall success for a share of the world record dead lift at any point between 2009 and 2015, and was capable of pulling within 30-35 pounds of the world record during his prime. Additionally Big Z is unarguably the best presser of all time having had a share of nearly every overhead record and barely being beaten out by Eddie in his Axle press record by 1 KG. He will likely lose his log press record to Luke Stoltman within the year, but hes held the record for 5 years and Luke has struggled mightily to claim it from him. Lastly, for a large portion of his prime he focused on the ASC and IFSA championship, even refraining from competing in the WSM from 2005 to 2008. During this time Pudzian and Phister won WSM but regularly finished just outside the podium when competing in the ASC. It's true that you focus training on one competition, but I'm 100% certain that big Z would have at least 5 WSM titles if he had competed during these years. Pudzian and JPS before him had slightly better functional strength and superior muscular endurance, Eddie was slightly better at static feats of strength at his peak, Thor and to a lesser degree Brian Shaw could pull more and were better at husafel/stones/throwing events, Kaz and Reinhoudt were at one point both the best strongman and the best power lifter on the planet, MVM and Martins have slightly better technique... but no one had the combination of achievements he had, he is at the very *worst* -top 3 in static strength, -top 2 in career titles/achievements, -and top 10% in power lifting chops all time. No one else comes even close to the Lithuanian Demigod.

He set goals at the age of 15: get the world record in the deadlift( he did that easy) win the WSM (he also won that easily) and meet Arnold (also easy). @@TIGERSDFW personally i believe eddie could have remained in his prime for much longer, however if you watch his documentary about him becoming strongest man in 2017 it shows you the toll on the body its takes to be strongest man and eddie's missus had a huge part to play in his strongest man retirement. To put it simply his goal once achieving his dream was his family. I think if eddie had not his family he would have achieved much much more. Personally i commend him for stepping down, he achieved what he set out for and like he said he placed a significant bet on his 500kg dead lift and is set for life. What more could you ask for.

Annoys me how people in the comments don’t understand the difference between the “greatest strongman” and the “best strongman ever” at his peak. Big Z is by far a greater strongman than Eddie, almost incomparable in longevity, consistency and the number of competitions won. Eddie however, at his peak, was probably the strongest guy ever. Strength is a measurement of how much weight you can shift from A to B. Eddie completely destroyed the deadlift wr by a percentage no man had ever beaten a record by in the past 50 years. Eddie has the axle press wr and broke it with absolute ease. Eddie won the squat events at wsm in his prime very easily and has gym lifts of squatting 380kg for 10 reps. Eddie never tried for a max squat in fear of injuring himself but he reckons he could’ve squatted 1000lb in his prime which I fully believe. Eddie locked out 230kg on log to nearly break the record but the judges didn’t give him the rep and bear in mind he broke his ankle 3 weeks before which meant he essentially strict pressed the log which no man could ever come close to doing. He deadlifted a world record 465 for a literal speed rep in 2016 when 90% of the competitors couldn’t even deadlift 440kg. In my opinion there is just no one that compares to 2017 Eddie in pure strength. The guy had no weaknesses other than movement events but you would class the strongest man in the world as the man who can move the most weights. Not the man who moves a mediocre weight in the quickest amount of time. Edit - he also benched 585lb on a wobbly bar for 6 pause reps with no spotter?😂

You made a solid case with a flawed premise tho. Eddie was the "best static event strongman ever",but that is it. It was proven by his mediocre career, after winning a wsm rigged in his favour,he dipped knowing he would never win again. Hall began his career during the end of Big Zs reign,he couldn't even place, during Shaws reign he was placing between 6-9 at arnolds and he cracked top 6 once at wsm, placing third against Haftor in his last legitimate strongman attempt. Kinda sad he didn't go into powerlifting,we would be looking at a goat over there.

He has lifted 500 Kilos, he squatted 320 Kilos for 15 reps with more in the tank, and he benched 300 kilos. He nearly got a 230 kilo loglift even, furthermore he has the axle press world record at 216 Kilos. Even if you watch the show Strongest Man in history you can still see that he is one of the strongest human beings on the world, even without training so hard as he had before. While I am a massive fan of Eddie, I have to say that Big Z has consistently been a monster in the competition. He is just the epitome of strength if you ask me. And in the end they are both strong as fuck and are nice guys to go with it!!

In terms of static strength its very close in trrms of longevity and the duration of championship , of course big z .

When Big Z does a huge lift he looks like he's taking a slightly larger than usual dump. Takes some effort but afterwards just a huge relief. When Eddie does I'm seriously worried that he will have to go to the hospital (or worse) afterwards. I don't think Eddie aimed for longevity, he wanted the record lifts and that one title of WSM. I think he pushed his body to the absolute limit, but that it wasn't really sustainable in the long run. Big Z's more restrained approach is probably what's kept him in the game for so long.

Hard to really to do a comparison, fairly sure Hall would have done a heavier deadlift (without a suit) in 2017 when he was in his prime And as for Big Z he looked like he had a lot left in the tank on his WR presses, no doubt if Big Z tried he could have easily surpassed or atleast equaled Eddie Halls Axele press.

@JediNxf7 they really did stop contesting max axle shortly after Z set the original record. I firmly believe that in over head events Z was truly untouchable with his records that he set. They just didn't let it be contested for him to increase it.

BiG Z took the titles but Eddie hall got the world looking with 500kg dead lift.It was thr smartest thing he ever did.Eddie focused on it like an Olympic gold like it was the only event,he bulked up to insane size and took the risk and it paid off.He is also insanely athletic which people forget,he has a very powerfull engine. Was a top swimmer before strongman.Eddie halls 500kg dead lift has still not been beaten Eddie keeps saying he knows it will be beaten, but when??Everyone who tries gets nose bleeds and passes out or simply cannot move it past the knees. So I think Hall is the Strongest.I mean the dead lift is the standard for strongman in my opinion.Big Z won loads and was mr consistency, however Hall peaked out stronger. But big z was far more consitent.

Big Z needs Eddie and Eddie needs Big Z for motivation. Healthy rivalry, I'd say. Since Big Z is past his peak Eddie needs to pick up his pace and get them Ws. You can't be good at a particular bit, you need to be good overall and that means, you have to strategize, win some bits, lose the other bits. Both are beasts tho, wouldn't get in their way when they're hungry, cuz me being 78kg is just a free meal knockin about in their eyes.

The idea that Hall isn't stronger because he only won WSM once is ridiculous. If tomorrow someone shows up at a sanctioned regional competition, logs in a 50% increase in the records of all events and gets hit by a very large bus the next day, he would still the the strongest man ever, with zero WSM and zero Arnolds. I personally think that the Big Z is stronger but, even if I knew Hall was impressive, I was surprised at how close their numbers are.
