I think the issues you're having with it is just the characters growing up from kids to teenagers that are growing apart that came to a head in the movie where double d was fed up with Eddy and going to end the friendship. • @junjian8822
    @junjian88222 жыл бұрын

I think the last seaaon was more realistic, since childhood friends not always last, and there's bound to be frictions and fights even between the closest friends. Double D is by far got the best glow-up, standing up by himself and making other friends, even befriending Kevin. I'm not saying it was flawless (it did got a tad gross) but it wasn't as bad. Also, Sarah was super spoiled but she was also a strong friend who always stood up for Jimmy.

37:20 I think it actually makes perfect sense that Double D would still hang out with Eddy. He relied on him for years and became friends, but as they changed and developed, he didn't want to ditch his friend. Was the friendship toxic? Very much so in seasons 4-5, but it can be hard to end a toxic friendship, especially for someone as empathetic as Double D.

I think what people fail to understand is a show doesn't become unwatchable or even bad just because the quality degrades a little after several years of runtime. Ed Edd N Eddie was incredibly good from start to finish BUT it did go from 'great instant classic' to 'really good animated series' from the first to last seasons.

Actually... I find the new personalities of the characters to be very realistic. They show that people grow and change and not always for the better. Eddy was constantly being enabled and supported by two people he could manipulate- One who didn't know better, and one who lacked the spine to refuse. But Edd finally started gaining some self confidence, and is more resistant to Eddy's schemes. Ed, for his part, never really got any of the help he clearly needed, and is starting to break down from the abuse he suffers from basically everyone, from Eddy, to the other kids, to his family. Eddy is losing his two pawns, and he is reacting like a petty tyrant who is losing his grip, which only alienates everyone more, and feeds into a vicious cycle. As for why Edd still hangs out with him? That too is realistic. Eddy is toxic, but he is still Edd's friend, and Edd still wants to support his friend even though he can clearly see Eddy is becoming worse. Maybe he thinks he can fix him if he sticks around and tries to change him, or he fears what will happen if he completely detaches from him. Essentially, Edd is sticking around out of pity. Ed sticks around because he has no one else, of course, and has latched onto Eddy emotionally. Its every bit the evolution of an utterly toxic friend group on the verge of a collapse.

Edd I think liked the fact that Eddy admired his brains and saw him as helpful which made it easier for him to be himself around him when normally with the other kids he'd get flustered and retreat into his shell a bit. The two of them do have a laugh together and have fun doing what they do which is why he sticks around Eddy. Like sure Double D probably had the least amount of antagonistic behaviour aimed towards him by the other kids. Eddy had pretty much every kid dislike him or at least not really care much for him, Ed was seen as a bit weird for his movie obsessions and kids seeing him as a bit gross though ultimately harmless but because they were friends with Sarah they didn't really make an effort to befriend him since Sarah was so aggressive towards him. Double D was just really book smart and socially awkward that most kids just didn't get what his deal was. However he at least found meaninginful connection with the other Ed's so that would be hard for him to really let go since he could actually be himself around them. Sure neither of them really got his more nerdy tangents either but they still liked hanging around with him and include him rather than ignore him completely.

To add on with at least Eddy's character, Eddy throughout the series showed that if he craved anything as much as money, it was the attention from all the other kids on the Cu-De-Sac because he wanted to be as cool as his brother was in his mind until the end of the movie where he realized that his brother wasn't exactly as cool as he thought before and then became more of his own person. With Ed and Edd, there were multiple examples that whenever they weren't directly involved with one of Eddy's schemes, the rest of the Cu-De-Sac were at least okay enough with them that they would hold a conversation or even act friendly until something bad happened. Edd more than Ed mainly due to his brain and giving others advice when asked and I only remember Ed having a more friendly relationship towards Rolf while other kids mostly avoided him if they could.

My kids will watch this growing up and probably talk to their friends about a show they never even heard of. I think this show was great from beginning to end and had one of the best last episode/movies of any show i have ever seen. It’s implied in one show that the Eds have been friends since they were very small children, so I think Double D sticking with Eddy in season 5 despite the odds they’re always at makes sense. This is a lifelong friend he’s almost always had. They’re like brothers. They work each other’s nerves but still always have each other’s backs. That being said, they also seem to be at the age where they’re going to start going into puberty, which could also explain the personality shift in them. think Ed has undiagnosed mental health issues, possibly even autism based on his actions and how he can hyper fixate on things to the point of obsession, but his parents don’t care enough about him to get him the help he needs. He’s stressed and going through physical changes that are scary without the support of family. Because of the obvious neglect and abuse he suffers from his family, he has negative coping mechanisms to that stress and that’s why we’re seeing. Where as before he had summer and time to be carefree, he now has to worry about grades, homework, teachers, all the stress that comes with school, all added on top of going through puberty. Eddy is aggressive because he has frustrations with the same stress but no other healthy way to let it out. Double D is kind of starting to come to the realization of what kind of character Eddy has, but because this is his oldest friend, the closest thing to a sibling that he has, he’s afraid to let go of their friendship. I think by the time high school ends, they’ll both still be friends with Ed, but they’ll be much more distant with each other. That’s what usually happens to childhood friendships when you grow up. I can’t see Double D turning down any offers he may get into a big name STEM school since knowledge and learning are his passion. Eddy may TRY to go to a business school or something similar, and he may do a good job, but I think he’s more likely to start his own business and go from there. He may grow out of scamming others or he might not, it’s hard to say. Ed might go to a school for the arts and become a comic book artist/writer or do something with movies, or he’ll do something completely different and unexpected (they all might). Either way, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to remain physically close after high school based on what we know of their passions and personalities, so a strong friendship might be hard to maintain, though I do think Double D and Eddy will keep in touch with Ed longer because they’re the only real support system he has, so they might continue a good relationship with him for longer. I grew up on this show and watching that movie was the most bittersweet event of my life. I had just turned 14 a month and sixteen days prior. It was my last year of middle school- which I had just started that August- and my last school year in the trailer I grew up in, it would be torn down and a new house built on its foundation just before the next summer. My favorite childhood show ending was what kicked in the realization that my childhood itself was comings to a close. Watching the Eds finally be accepted by the other kids- well, minus Johnny and Plank- and playing a game with them in the streets as the screen faded to black, it just hit me right in the gut. Yeah, I could watch reruns and yeah they were just as funny the 50th time I saw them as they were the first time. But knowing that it was over, that it was just a rerun and there would probably never be another new episode to this show I loved wi5h all my heart… it just hit differently than watching a rerun episode while waiting for the new one to come out. I loved this show so much. I loved each character for one reason or another. I miss the show but I also feel so lucky to have been able to grow up with it. To watch how the characters grew and changed in real time, rather than finding the DVD set and watching while thinking “oh, another obscure early 2000’s cartoon with jokes that I don’t even get.” (That’s how I feel about some Loony Tunes and Tom & Jerry episodes lol)

The problem I have with earlier season is that (With some exceptions) they all take the place in the same time and place (Often even weather doesn't change) and because at least here where I live the previous episodes has constant reruns it's all kinda blended together in the long run. Because they actually decided to change season in the show and introduced new places those seasons felt really fresh for me and it was interesting to see what they could do with more restrictive environment.

There was a scene where Ed, Edd, and Eddy where they jump over the fence and how they went through the fence explains their personalities on the nose. Eddy hopping over the fence indicates his willingness to "cheat" the system, or to take a shortcut. Much like his schemes, it might end up being more work, but in his mind, cheating is the best way to get ahead. Edd goes the neat and logical way, he's straight forward. BUT, note that he closes the gate behind him rather than leaving it open. He's incredibly meticulous and even if it's more convenient to leave it open for anyone coming in behind him, he has to leave things neat, tidy and as he found them. Ed is also is straight forward, he in fact is using the MOST direct route. But this route is one no one else would consider because it seems completely nonsensical. Which sums him up pretty well. The fact that it works for him is also fun to note. In general his earnestness and determination carries him through situations that most people would be stopped by.

The switch to digital animation was the end for the show or any show in that matter. The switch just makes it too clean and sterile not to mention bright and vibrant that can cause any sensory overload. Even the Creator knew when they had no choice but to switch over so he wanted to pretty much self-sabotage (poorier writing, flanderize characters, unconventional plots etc...) the show to allow the network to cancel it without any more future artistic vandalization. I can't imagine what the show would've looked like in high definition since it seems every show at the time's writing especially went downhill after the digital switch.

I think the character changes are a perfect example of what it's like to grow up with people. People who get pushed around build a back bone. The ones who are strong in character take it too far. Then there's a period of time where those people are still best friends because they have been forever but they are toxic or fight more than agree. It's a normal growing experience.

Honestly I think Edd still stuck with Ed and Eddy because. . . When you're a kid, it's hard to let go of friendships, even if you've basically outgrown them. It's hard to even KNOW you've outgrown them. I was long-time friends of some people that, in retrospect, I should have cut ties with MUCH sooner because we had just grown to be much different people. (And they were honestly kinda toxic but anyways.) There's this narrative that friendships should last forever and they only end if someone moves away, or someone did something bad that ended the friendship. In reality, most friends just. . . Drift apart. The individuals grow in different ways and they no longer fit together like they once did. I went off on a tangent for a bit, but it honestly makes sense to me that Edd would still stick around Ed and Eddy even after becoming less anxious and more sociable.

A girl ended the best friendship I had as a kid growing up. She had a crush on me. I was young. Too into Pokémon cards, game consoles, and sports to think about girls like that. Along came one girl who matured first and had a huge crush on me. I was too young for love. I felt shy and timid around her. I’d just choke. eventually she got over me and asked my friend out. I liked her she would write our names in the playground on her hands and notebook. One night my best friend asked for my permission to ask her out. I still remember like if it was yesterday. I never made a move she got over me and went after him. After that boom bf gone. They’re still together to this day. They have one kid that she had back in 8th grade. Crazy how life passed you by quick. One quick choice and that could of been my ass with a grown ass kid during these quarantine BS ass covid times. Dodge the bullet on that one.

Interestingly enough, the first episode with the Kanker sisters has them put the Eds in their fathers’ bathrobes (...there’s probably nothing disturbing there). There’s three robes, but each has a different name. Lee mentions their mom, but they don’t tend to talk about their dad(s). They all seem to be similar in age (with Lee implied to be the oldest, and thus the leader), and their ‘father’ is three different men. It’s heavily implied that they’re stepsisters, and their mom went through at least 3 different baby-daddies

I kind of feel like the 5th season had a bit of a realistic development of friends. Edd probably stuck with Eddy out of obligation. He couldn't possibly break up the trio, since they've always been that way. And Eddy was lashing out more due to being picked on so much, and school coming around again. Lacking the freedom of summer likely got to him, so he was a jerk. And Edd put up with it because he wanted to try and ride out the negative phase. I feel like if the show continued with them going into adulthood, the dynamics between the characters would change even further, as they do in real life. Edd and Eddy separating slowly, maybe Ed ultimately sticking with Edd, and other such developments.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious just on a cursory glance at the show that Eddy is toxic, and that Ed and Edd are actual friends. They are different, yet respect the other for their qualities. They by their nature never talk down to the other, and are nearly always constantly giving positive reinforcement. Honestly, I wonder what they would have been like if Eddy wasn't even around. They got into shenanigans solely because of him. It let them be creative, and gave them a source of life, but, I think they'd have found that elsewhere or with each other anyway. ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/p3aXp66EqrqxhqQ.html ) The two of them were literally just fine changing a lightbulb together but Eddy needed to scam someone to be stimulated. To the point the boys said he was starting to bore them. The writing was on the wall. You're right. They were already beginning to kind of see it.

@@Krystalmyth I'm certain if Eddy wasn't there, Ed and Edd would be better friends with the other kids. Their main issue would likely be with Sarah because she's a bit on the toxic side too. Or the Canker sisters perhaps. It's been shown that Edd could have a very positive friendship with Kevin, on more than one occasion. Imagine a scenario where it's Ed, Edd, and Kevin. That would be really interesting. Edd is very smart, and could probably get into bikes with Kevin. And Ed would probably have a better friendship with Rolf. It's Eddy that normally gets the trio kicked out of Rolf's farm. If he wasn't there, Ed might have more time to get into farm work with Rolf. Mainly because he has chickens, and we all know Ed's favorite animal.

@@talimusbellavance5101 She can be, but only if she senses someone is out to hurt her or those she cares about. Think about it, Sarah has never eeeever been toxic to Jimmy. She's never said one mean thing to that boy. And is like, constantly giving positive reinforcment even though he violates every gender norm and expectation. She generally gets along with the entire culdesac for the most part. She's just stubborn and really doesn't like being fucked with lol. She's basically an empath with premptive strike. xD If you could see monsters pretending to be human with a special pair of shades and shot them before they hurt people, others would just think you're insane haha. She associates the trio with Eddy, and her brother who she knows is far too trusting of him, is often put in a position to ruin the others because he's attached to him. Even though he respects, fears and loves her to pieces, he's also a hazard but only cuz of Eddy lol. Jesus. It's crazy the influence one narcissist can have on a group, and can even influence how we sees another person near them. Ive always seen through Sarah's toxicity. It's the, crazy girlfriend effect. You ever see a girl key a guys car and scream at him and he looks like he's just innocent and dealing with a psycho, when the reality is he's been gaslighting her, and presenting an image. But people only see the crazy. Truth is the real monster is usually very close, by, and often seems to be the one people end up supporting instead. In Eddy's case he's a unique situation. He's got charisma, since people keep falling for his nonsense, but he doesn't need to be everyones friends because Edd and Ed are so loyal. He'd fall apart without them.

@@Krystalmyth That's true, for the most part. 90% of her psychotic rage is to get back at the trio when Eddy's dangerous schemes inevitably get someone hurt, especially Jimmy. Though there are those times where she comes onto the scene with rage at Ed when their mom wants him to do something. Though that might just be a sibling thing. My sister seems to act the same way sometimes, ever since she was a kid. Most of it seems to come down to Eddy alienating his friends from everyone else. And it's hardly even his fault. Eddy is the way he is because his brother is the way he is. He probably always treated Eddy like garbage, and that's what Eddy was led to believe is cool. It's very telling when every kid in the culdesac fears him. He definitely got kicked out for troublesome behavior. Which might have even been a result of the parents who we never see. At least Edd was able to knock some sense into Eddy during the movie. Might be too late to really get close with the other kids though.

Eh I don’t see it that way because Ed never got stupider in my opinion, he pretty much stayed the same. Patrick got dumb to the point he was dangerous and mean.

@@breonawarren1507 It's more like he began to act stupid just for the sake of being stupid. This is exactly the same problem with Patrick, but Patrick is 1000 times worse. It's just like how Double D became excessively "smart" just for the sake of having an obnoxiously smart character. To quote a certain youtuber. It's akin to the "lol random" level of humor but like.... it's better and more structured than most cartoons that are lol random. Like it's random crazy humor but it's not all over the place. For clarification, Lol Random humor is like "lets have the characters act in the craziest and wackiest ways we can think of because why not!?" Modern Spongebob is a great example. In Ed Edd and Eddy, it made the narrative of the show start to become more driven by the character's personalities. All in all, it never got that bad in Ed Edd and Eddy. I actually think the over the top characters made the show more enjoyable. It constantly bordered on the line of personality driven and plot driven, which made it fun to watch. Most of the episodes of the show were still plot driven enough to be good. It was and is still my favorite cartoon.

The way Eddy and Ed react to seeing Edd hatless is more of surprice, like if Edd was kinda like Finn the human once he took his hat off, probably a long well takek care of hair, or probably a mullet since i believe Ed would find that cool

Short Answer: "Not Much" In my opinion the show has actually been consistently good throughout it's run (though I will admit Season 5 did had some unwatchable episodes) and finish off with a perfect finale. 3:18 Wow I did not notice that until now 😂

I honestly agree. I like almost all of the episodes excluding a few that admittedly aren't too great, I don't think any show goes without at least a few episodes that aren't as good as the rest. And honest to God the movie was great and serves as one of my favorite finales as well.

It was rare for kid’s cartoons to have official endings since networks never want kids to know that their show ended so they’ll be compelled to keep watching the reruns. That’s why the Angry Beavers finale was never finished.

I always took season 5 to be the season when all the kids were sick of the same bullshit all the time. Like, the kids are tired of their shtick and Eddy is becoming more and more desperate for their acceptance and starts lashing out at everyone (his friends specifically). Double D is maturing and - as you pointed out, he was apologising for the Eds back in the first few seasons - is realising more and more how Eddy's behaviour is affecting him/them. Ed seems to be leaning more and more into his own little world to kinda...ignore whats going on? Season 5, and up to it, really felt like a good build-up to everything in the movie - wow, you mean the short kid who's been abused by an asshole he looks up to his whole life and is alienated by all his peers and is slowly growing apart from his best friends reacts by being a prick? Shocker.

I think Eddy getting more aggressive and dick-ish played well into the movie and his relationship with his brother as time goes on he becomes closer and closer to a mirror of what became of his brother, yet I think the movie also addressed and fixed that issue by him showing he just kind of wanted to be accepted and respected but didn't know how to properly and maturely go about it.

Edd seems to be a character that hits his stride in academia. When school is in session, he has a confidence that he didn't have during the summer break, and is the one that keeps the three amigos together with his understanding of the school system, teachers, homework, etcetera. Eddy on the other hand is at his worst in school. He's forced to be there, doesn't get good grades (doesn't do homework or study), is a trouble-maker for attention, worries about his parent's reactions to bad grades... The roles in some ways of those two characters are reversed. Edd is confident in school, Eddy on the other hand is not, but the way the two kids deal with it is different and makes sense. Edd is more timid and passive when he is stuck in times where he is not in his element. Eddy reacts with anger and avoidance. The season makes sense, is some of the most relatable stuff in all seasons of the show, and is one of my honest favorite seasons.

Eddy's actually pretty intelligent; he just chooses to use more of his brain for schemes instead of schoolwork. Basically, "Brilliant but Lazy". And the teachers tend to judge him prematurely. He's shown getting detention a lot, even when he's not directly responsible for whatever happened. He got in trouble for _Ed_ pouring gravy in the swimming pool, and he got in trouble for impersonating the principal even though again, Double D did that.

Not that long ago I also rewatched the series, and I too agree the last episodes are worse, although I only noted the over violence, but I agree with your points; I think I'll just chose to believe the last season served to set up the movie final to be more impactful at then end when they are finally accepted.
