This movie itself: It was basically an apology to the fans (and a chance to end the series properly) and it was able to deconstruct everything: The Eds' flaws (Ed doing something smart, Edd standing up for himself and showing physical strength, and Eddy displaying remorse and humility for being such an asshole), The Kankers (by making them help the Eds instead of torturing them), Kevin and Sarah getting what they deserve, and the Eds finally getting accepted by the kids as their friends. Let's not forget that, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Billy and Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure or Regular Show: The Movie aside, this was probably among the closest Cartoon Network has gotten to doing a legitimate feature-length movie. This wasn't a two-part movie episode. This wasn't a sixty/seventy-minute episode. This was an entire hour-and-a-half MOVIE. AND IT WAS A HIT. Furthermore, the movie currently sits at an 8.5 on IMDB, with a few professional critics remarking on its quality that is unexpected of an animated tv movie based on a cartoon. It is exceedingly rare for a movie adaptation of a cartoon to ever be received better than the source it is based on, and yet the movie pulled it.

One thing I'd like to point out is something I noticed when remembering the series. Whenever Eddy feels accepted by someone, he is genuinely nice and grateful. He even starts showing sides of becoming a better person. His scams and practical jokes are nothing more than empty attempts at finding happiness. All he really wants is to be accepted by others. He just no idea how to earn acknowledgement...

I’ve always believed Double D to have some kind of scar under the hat. I like how Ed remarks “does it hurt, Double D?” And then scratches the back of his head, always took that to imply that the scar was where he was scratching

When it came to Kevin and Naz, I saw it more as the 2 of them having to finally come to grips with their feelings for each other, and Kevin being so insecure about it that he is trying to push Naz away because he's afraid of becoming closer. Also, there's some context that needs to be considered. Big Picture Show was an unofficial 10th anniversary special (aired in the 10th year of the series being on TV). SpongeBob Truth or Square was the official 10th anniversary special of SpongeBob. Both Big Picture Show and Truth or Square aired on the same weekend. Truth or Square was an absolutely abysmal special where it was hyped to be a big love song to the fans that had been with it for 10 years where everything came together, but it was an absolutely terrible clip show of events that NEVER happened (I know, up until then I'd seen every episode enough to recite it from memory) and aside from saying "this is the 10th anniversary" a couple times, it was nothing but an insult to fans (here's some "early spongebob footage," no it's just spongebob in a Flacher Brothers style; we're inviting guests to the party, so here's a bunch of celebrity cameos of people that were on the nickelodeon studios set and some bad jokes, etc.). It would have ruined my weekend. But then we had Big Picture Show, which was everything we wanted in a 10th anniversary special (for all the reasons you said). Big Picture Show was the movie that should have gotten all the publicity, and burger king deals, and everything.

You know, the "Eddy confesses to Edd about being a foul-up wannabe loser" scene, and then Eddy tearfully telling everyone the truth about his big brother were both the final catalysts that sparked Eddy to finally grow up. Sure, helping Edd with his confidence issues through wrestling training in "Tag Yer Ed", letting Edd stay with him in "Momma's Little Ed", changing a light bulb on the Christmas tree in "Ed, Edd n Eddy's Jingle Jingle Jangle", and standing up for Edd against the Kankers in "A Fistful of Ed" were all enough to start Eddy on his way, but getting told by Edd that their friendship was over and then later telling the truth about his big brother were both the final shocks needed to show Eddy the light. Also, it was nice to see the Kankers finally move past their old role as cheap antagonists and actually protect the Eds from the other kids.

Ah, this movie. A true swan song to a legendary show. The cinematography, the animation, the voice performances, the characters being lovable in both familiar and new ways-even the contested ones are handled pretty damn well; for once I didn't want to kill Sarah, particularly since the Kankers are beating me and many others to the punch, hahahaha-almost everything is perfect. ALMOST everything. The ending is indeed rushed (a word that I rarely use because of my hatred for it), with the kids just accepting the Eds after Eddy's tearful and demoralizing confession. Myself, I would have shown the kids expressing sympathy and making that part of the movie more bittersweet before flash forwarding to a later point in time (a month or year or two) where the Eds' acceptance isn't fully obtained, but they're very close to it. So an example would be one of the kids (Jonny, Rolf or even Kevin) knocking on Eddy's door one afternoon, and Eddy warily yet gladly accepting their offer to join them in a game or share in jawbreakers from Kev's garage. It's a hopeful, yet still uncertain note to end on, but it would still give the audience the same kind of closure that the official ending gives. Btw, slick review, Jem. And nice to see you using your own intro. Welcome to the club, hahahahahaha.

In my honest opinion, what the true scam was in the "Ed, Edd n' Eddy Big Picture Show" was Eddy's brother. When you really think about it, the scam at the beginning is exactly like the briefcase in "Pulp Fiction" because it serves as a McGuffin to drive the story forward. In the end, neither the briefcase in "Pulp Fiction" nor the beginning scam really mattered because of the events that were triggered from those McGuffins. Getting to my main point though, Eddy's brother was the real scam of the movie because Eddy built his brother up in previous episodes and especially in this movie. Eddy only fibbed just to intimidate the neighborhood kids and earn their respect for him in return. There's even hints in a few episodes though that Eddy IS scared of his brother and does not want any more abuse from him than what he's already received. When we do see Eddy's brother hurt him, the kids can see past the facade that Eddy built for his brother. We feel bad for Eddy that he had to go to such lengths just to earn respect from everyone in the neighborhood just because he didn't receive any love in the comfort of his own home. After Ed unhinges the door, which Eddy uses against his brother, Eddy does come clean and owns up to his lies and deception, but in another twist of fate, Eddy's scheme to build up his brother inadvertently worked in the end as he and the rest of the Eds finally earned respect from the neighborhood kids. It was one of the few scams from Eddy that managed to work and ultimately made him a better person in the end. He finally learns from his mistakes, became a likable person in the eyes of the neighborhood kids and at the same time, pulled off the biggest scam he ever achieved. Long post on my end, but great review of this movie, Jem Reviews. Looking forward to more in the future.

It's funny. Looking back on this film, I can't help but look at this film as something that felt like an end of an era. Ed Edd N Eddy was a great show I would say. While yeah, it didn't always get things right, it was pretty great at representing childhood well. It didn't need to be story heavy or have goofy off the wall moments. It just needed the characters re-enacting what could be called childhood memories. This movie was no exception. Tbh, it was the right time to end the show. While the school seasons of Ed Edd N Eddy were not too bad, I can tell this show needed to find the right time to end properly and I can't think of a better way to end the show tbh. I'll be honest, in regards to the whole twist that all of Eddy's brother stories were all a facade hit me hard as a kid. Think about it. Eddy just wanted to be cool but his brother was an abusive asshole. Now granted, all those times Eddy was mean were not justified just because of that but it does shine a more sympathetic light on Eddy. And I can truly believe the kids wanted to stick by the eds' side even if the first two acts and most of the 3rd showed that the neighborhood kids wanted to basically kill them after their scam. I guess in general, this was also the end of pretty great Cartoon Network TV Movies. Which is a real shame because most of them were pretty great like Operation Z.E.R.O. And I will say, this was a pretty great review man.

Perhaps Eddy attempted that again but with a home built roller coaster. I think that makes the most sense as while the kids are severely injured, they are not wet.

I discovered this review mainly because for some reason my appreciation for Ed Edd and Eddy had resparked, and I wanted to see how other people viewed the movie. So honestly this review was really nice and I think I'll stick around for other stuff on your Channel If I could probably make one remark, is it I think Rolf in his investigation of the car crash scene is actually pretty interesting. The most noteworthy thing that happened that I believe he actually knew what he was doing was when he put an egg on the engine block. Metal heats up when exposed to direct sunlight, so by analyzing the egg and how cooked it is based on the amount of time, he can determine exactly how long the crash site has been there, Ergo how long ago it occured and how far away the Eds could be.

  • @BlackFlash09

Been waiting for this review! I'm gonna guess that the Eds tried to pull off some kind of magical show. But all of the devices backfired after Eddy pushed the red button. One nitpick though. I think you should've taken some time to slow down the review to better explain the Ed gum prank scene. Which of Ed's appearances are references to what episodes? It goes by too fast. Oh, man. Both of those emotional moments though. Surprising character development. And it shows that each of the Eds do genuinely value their friendship with each other. Thank you! Glad to know I'm not the only person who doesn't approve of Nazz and Kevin as a pairing. If anything, my head canon is that she moved onto Eddy after this movie. Honestly, that's a great analysis to Eddy's character. People *could* argue Eddy's brother abusing him and influence over him is no excuse for how he treats others. However, you actually get to see first hand what Eddy had to endure from his brother. And if you think about, this abuse and torment from his brother has been subtlety implied throughout the show... And while people (including Alpha Jay) *could* argue that the Eds got off with little to no consequences, you actually see them taking a beating from both Eddy's brother and Johnny. However, I think in the end, the rest of kids have come to realize that the Eds are just a "adorkable" trio who were just looking for acceptance.

I love this movie! It is such a phenomenal send off to a phenomenal series. It raises the steaks in a way that the fans of the show would never expected to see the movie tackle. It also delivers deep messages and fantastic theories that gives more depth into the setting of Ed, Edd, n Eddy and the characters. I hope one day Cartoon Network would make some sort of follow up if not a sequel to Big Picture Show that takes place when the Ed's are older.

I assume the scam was an amusement park with many attractions and rides like a magician trick, (Nazz's predicament) and having a "tamed" bear (Rolf). Maybe they got a bear and used a bunch of bear traps to calm it down (Johnny). Everybody was outside except for Sarah and Jimmy.

18:00 - 18:13: In all honesty, they did foreshadow this in a few episodes prior to this, like Eddy’s reaction to his “brother” planning to give him a knuckle sandwich (even though it’s really Sarah) and Eddy’s brother sending baby stuff; so I kinda expected that to happen.

My only gripe of this movie is that the ending felt a bit rushed. I mean I know the kids did witness Eddy being pummeled by his brother and felt sympathy for him, but them forgiving the Eds right away just felt a bit rushed. I mean they could've taken some time to explain to Eddy why he and his friends were despised by them and congratulate Eddy for learning his lesson after all these years. Also, I think it would've been better had the kids explained to Jonny what happened before he attacked the Eds and Jonny looks around and sees the damages and tags along with the rest of the kids as they accept the Eds in their crew. That would've been a better ending for me. But overall, the movie was good nonetheless.

Terry Morgan I think it’s obvious why they weren’t liked or never got what they wanted. Eddy’s was an asshole who never admitted his wrongdoings, Double D never had a back bone to stand up to Eddy and Ed is an idiot. Basically Ed needed a brain, Double D needed courage and Eddy needed a heart. I think it was showcased in the dialogue of one scene and in the end they over come those short comings. Ed did the smartest thing which brought Eddy’s brother down, Double D stood up to Eddy’s brother and Eddy admitted his faults and learned his lesson. It was after all of this they finally got their happy ending.

My theory on the scam is that the Eds created the scam to end all scams, a machine that could appeal to all the kids different wants and desires (excluding Sarah and Jimmy who could've ruined everything), but it all went horribly wrong. Eddy pressed the red button which caused the machine to go haywire and badly injure all the kids, leaving both physical and possibly even mental scars.

honestly, it seemed both Rolf and Wilfred's & Nazz and Kevin's scene reflected the relationship of Double d and eddy relationship. Kevin prioritizing his bike aka healing his bruised ego and Rolf overworking Wilfred foreshadows how Eddy took Double D for granted. But while Nazz cut ties and Wilfred attacked, Eddy shallowed his pride and rekindled his friendship with Double D.

i do have a theory. looking at their clothing and the background it isn't fall anymore so this doesn't take place during the seasons with the school and it looks like it's back in summertime. what if this scam took place after school ended and eddy tried coming up with something he thought would be the greatest scam to kick off summer with a (literal) bang. and of course it goes wrong and the kids are now after their asses. when i first saw the movie before it was revealed that the kids were after them i thought the police was after them or something. and when the kids were going after the eds I didn't think they were just going to beat them up but maybe kill them. It probably wasn't the case but that was what I thought at the time.

The scam was probably something they couldn't get away with in a kid's show, hence why it remained anonymous. Also, poor Johnny. He didn't deserve to become an outcast. (Still can't believe you left out the post-credits scene). I like to imagine things got patched up between him and the other kids afterwards off-screen. Also, in the episode An Ed Too Many when Sarah comes from under Double D's hat, you can see under it a little bit. He's just got a mishaped bald head. That's it. So the bald head reveal from the food fight flash game was canon after all.

Regarding the hat, I think it’s more of a trauma thing, both mental and physical. One theory stated that Double D’s injury was caused by a a dodgeball incident where he used to live, referenced in the episode with a thousand flashbacks, that Double D had first met Ed and Eddy during one of his first scams. Hinting he was new to the neighborhood at the time. Going back to the dodgeball trauma, in one episode where Sarah tasked the Ed’s to watch Jimmy double D clearly was emotionally scarred at the thought of Eddy pelting him with a dodgeball.

My whole take on Rolf's investigative thing was that in his own weird way he was testing how long the car was abandoned and maybe pick up a scent via the muffin but Wilfred ate it and thus couldn't have a continuous scent. The metal car was in the sun so if it's been there for a while it'd likely be hot and it was hit enough to cook an egg so that gives a decent enough time frame for how long it's been there and how far they could have gotten.

What I really have to say for the Eds Ed Edd n Eddy is even though they've been through a lot they have made mistakes, big mistakes, poor choices, bad things have happened to them, they've been failures their whole lives due to their scams and fitting in and they've been outcasts for a long time. In the movie the Eds have apologized and made up for their wrong doings and they're friends of the in-crowd kids and are no longer outcasts. But Johnny made a big mistake and a bad move taking down the Eds and got beaten up by the kids and now Johnny is the outcast. It's a shame that Johnny is misunderstood and all Johnny has is his pal Plank. If a second Ed, Edd n Eddy was made in the future it would be about Ed standing up to his sister Sarah and fighting back, Johnny seeking revenge, and Eddy settling a score with his older brother.
