Hi CiCi, does the rice cake need to be soften with hot water first or do I just sautéed it in the wok?

Thank you for your question. There are 2 ways to go about this. 1. First, boil the rice cakes in boiling water for about 1 to 2 minutes. Then stir fry (You won't need to add water after stir-frying in this mothod). 2. Stir fry the rice cakes directly until lightly browned (this will add lots of delicious aromas), and add water in it after. Plus, Napa cabbage will also release moisture. Then cover it up for a few minutes until softened. Both ways will do. ☺️

I dont know why, but in the rice cakes packet i bought was indicated that you should place in water the rice cakes for around 12 hours before boiling. I just did it and they are too soft (still loving them anyways). Maiby that was indicated for cooking other kind of dishes?

Wow! There was a restaurant I used to go to when I was a kid in NYC called Shanghai Evergreen that had a rice cake dish that looked like this. I ordered it thinking it would be cake like a birthday cake 🎂 haha it was different than I expected but it was my favorite dish I ate whenever we went there to eat

Thank you! It tastes the best when it first came out of the wok. To re-heat the left over, you could try to stir fry them in your wok again. Or just heat it up for like 1 to 2 mins in the microwave. ☺️
