Chinese Rice Cake Stir Fry (炒年糕)

Hi, welcome to the ingredient channel where I recreate and share authentic Chinese recipes every week. In this episode, I will share an easy rice cake stir fry recipe. There are a rather wide variety of rice cakes in different cultures. The rice cake we are using today is made of glutinous rice and are prevalent in Asia. In Chinese, it is called Nian Gao, a food traditionally consumed during the lunar new year ceremonies. This delicious dish presents a healthy combination of rice cake, veggies, pork belly and mushrooms. And it only takes about 10 minutes to make.

Ingredients:
• Rice cake (2/3 lb)
• Pork belly (2 oz)
• Dried shiitake mushroom (4 or 5)
• Fresh Cubanelle pepper (1)
• Carrot (1 med)
• Cooking oil (3 tbsp)
• Ginger root (1 tsp)
• Garlic (2-3 clove)
• Sugar (2 tsp)
• Light soy sauce (4 tsp)
• Hot pepper paste (1 tsp)
• Cooking wine (1 tbsp)
• Salt (1 tsp)
• Dried chili powder (1 tsp)
• Oyster sauce (1 tsp)
• Sesame oil (1 tsp)

    These are $8.00 a bag in Asian gro store now. 😳 I've never seen them so expensive.

    Grocery price is definitely on the rise. I got this for $6.99. It was on sale though. I am trying some other recipes with the rest of my bag and will share if I love it. Stay tuned :).

    @@TheIngredient Rice cake used to be so cheap... I also will be looking out for those recipes 😋 And thanks for sharing... I have bought soooo soo many Asians sauces and an array of different types of noodles, dry tofu Skins, we forage our own Woodear mushrooms also but,,, of all this stuff we have we don't know how to use most of it 😵‍💫🤣... but if we need it, we got it. Haha 😏👌
