I do have a rice cooker but I think I'm going to have to buy an Instant Cooker. Everyone is using them now.
I'll definitely try this recipe without the flour. Eating gluten-free lately.
Egg white may be a good alternative.
@@TheIngredient Allergic to eggs too, heehee
@@loudmouthnewyorker2803 oh 😅
What if i don't have rice flour or potato starch?
hmmm. If you have all purpose flour, it may work. The taste will be different though
The only time I tried fried eggplant was when my cousin's italian grandmother made me some as a little kid. I was a picky eater back then, but it was really good. This recipe looks delicious.
What a heart-warming story! Thanks for sharing, @skekze.
Amazing 😍
Thanks.
It is delicious. Thank you for sharing!
I just want to know where you got that fermenting crock! ...and if you can just add 5 spice powder instead of the individual spices.
I got the jar from Amazon. Hopefully the link works for you. As for the five spices, it may work. I never tried it before. Typically the powder is not as strong though. www.amazon.com/Fermenting-Anjetan-Fermentation-Cleaning-Sauerkraut/dp/B0B3TJMQVF/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1VH1C8PN62QAL&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VrEd7swkUC38GVZ247jDjt_13dfeT0pWxkN-FKkFilLi3cu2wJZ-6ts4zT-v2B84dlv3LqXSXCeTMxdq2xrxB89QOCwl-5cN8xWloFN4tPzqDpueCts6xqZvtAiZm4witG1NbJgVxYpExb6aQ5Tl0_nXPeoGc_gNqS9Q5c990fKKCHnJg4Akk2tAl70JkT8xwxDns3JfBgZjxBkDNAK81QG51lRFjnpfqJ6LL_obmBGF5GPtPQEDzKwIJYO65gsHIHSzs0JVAQhWa3Dw1C0rDSd6EXGomIGi196INW4B2qE.C-rg6Y0jgm2cu-eQO2nf_Lbc9oZBAjSkHuEjc71pZOc&dib_tag=se&keywords=chinese%2Bpickle%2Bjar&qid=1720478366&sprefix=chinese%2Bpickle%2Bjar%2Caps%2C69&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
how long can these be stored?
Before the invention of the refrigerator, preserving eggs in brine was a traditional method. This technique could keep the eggs preserved for months, but they would become extremely salty over time.
Simple recipe but very lengthy wait.
Yes, indeed :).
This can easily feed a family of six for a night.
One of the features of Northerneastern Chinese cuisine :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I loved this as a kid and was devastated when I realised I never learnt to make It and couldn't find an English language recipe! I am going to make it and remember my Auntie. She used to come and make them in the winter and I'd steal them from the plate as soon as she took it out of the oil 💕
What a lovely story. Hope you like the recipe @AT-ez5hr
I actually stir fry my Chinese eggplant till soft and then mix it with ground pork and scallions.
That is tasty too.
Thanks you so much I liked it
Thanks!
Unfortunately I'm gluten-free and can't have beer anymore.
Yes gotta used that fatty pork so the bun fillings are more juicy. Fat = Flavor!
That is right.
Wow these look so good, I didn't know there were 2 types of long beans
I never tried the light green ones.
Thanks :)
About how long does it generally take for the pears to wrinkle in the water at the end? Just wondering an estimate, can I walk away for a bit or do I need to watch it closely?
Depending on the size of the pear, I'd say around 20 minutes ish. You should be able to walk away :) and check it from time to time. Thanks.
AI can't cook like you, don't worry.
I'm so happy I found your channel! This is the kind of cooking I love most. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to try this
Thanks, @roscoeswraps2510
Hand breaking the cabbage is something I'll absolutely try. If I put one Szechuan peppercorn into my dish it'll be too hot, LOL. I could never handle heat like that.
Haha. Understand.
I usually cut my bitter melon into strips rather than coins and filling them with a meat filling. But your version looks delicious too.
🍴👨🍳Delicious recipe 😋 Absolutely Mouthwatering 🤤 I definitely love your recipe. thanks for sharing this awesome video💓💓💓💓
Great how we can use the air fryer to make Chinese dishes too.
Gotta Gotta Gotta try this and soon!!! Thanks for the share!
Thank you - I got gifted a Nanjing duck and wasn't really sure what to do with it, so this was very helpful.
Wow, good idea!
Look so good
😋👌👋
Greek yogurt in a Chinese cake? Hey it's 2024, why not.
Omgggg squash grows so well in my part of Canada, anything involving cooking with squash practically summons my attention. Definately going to try this!
Oh man I've been watching your content on and off for the last year, and you have singlehandedly convinced me to get an air fryer ahahaha. This sounds really good and a very easy recipe to start with!
Thanks, @windydelta7105. Hope you like the peanuts and try many other air fried recipes in my channel :). Look forward to your feedbacks. Happy cooking!
Woww yummy 🥰🥰👍
Where do you get snow pears from?
Asian grocery stores typically have it, like H Mart or Lotte Plaza. Hope you find one near by. Otherwise, you could try apple pears, which both safe way and target have from time to time.
I've been cooking Asian food at home for many decades and I've literally never heard of Dried Yamakurage. Such an interesting vegetable.
Fair enough. 😀
Chinese Lasagna Roll
nice translation :)
looks muchos deliciouso!
It looks amazing. I will definitely be giving this one a try.
thank you so much!! i felt bad about the amount of celery leaf i was just chucking into compost cause we were never taught to eat them, but this way of prepping them is so easy and super super tasty 😆😊
Glad you like it @balimeg. Come back and check for more easy recipes :)
The ingredients can make any fried dough for many international cuisines but we remember it growing up so we immediately think it's Chinese.
True...
Happy New Year!

Wow super tasty recipe nice presentation
Yes, those Thai chilis are too hot. I might make my dish without them. Simple Cantonese flavor.
Thanks so much for teaching
Thank you for the video . Question , I saw a historical drama where they made duck fat sesame flat bread . If I want to make that using your recipe do I add the duck fat during the frying process or in the paste ?
That is an interesting question. I actually have never tried duck fat before. I would try melt the fat and use the oil to make the paste. Let me know how it goes!
@@TheIngredient I will ! Thanks again . I look forward to more of your Chinese recipes
@@yoru6grad see you around !
Excellent recipe! Just made it. For those making this, the shrimp go in shortly before the slurry goes in. You can see them floating in the pot as she’s stirring. Highly recommend everyone try this.
I used to stir fry the broccoli directly and add sauce to the wok. Now I do this and boil the broccoli first so it's semi-cooked and then sauce it. Happy cooking and I'll see you around.
This looks fabulous. Eager to try it. Will likely add steamed pork to it.
The little meatballs make it extra special.
Awesome, thanks! I can follow along pretty well and piece together the missing parts like letting the cabbage sit to render the water, and squeezing out the water prior to adding it as part of the filling. I'm guessing you are adding it without rinsing off the salt since you are only using little bits of soy sauce for the filling. I'm curious why use cabbage water instead of regular water or stock?
@shinnoski, good question. Cabbage juice enhances the taste of the soup while water dilutes the taste. Pork or chicken stock in the traditional recipe is still the best choice. However, it takes time to prepare for the stock, as I mentioned at the beginning of the video. The alternative for a lazy chef like me is to use the natural veggie juice :). Technically, chicken broth may work too but I would not use water.
