    We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in April. We were to Branson Missouri for the Memorial Day week. I brought fabric cut-out for a quilt pattern. Enough to make a quilted throw and the outside for a tote. We had fun.

    I made 136 quilt blocks while we were in Branson, Missouri, and in between shows. Now we're back. I'm putting the blocks together for the outside of a tote and a quilt throw.

    Hi Christen. I have been watching your Tube videos and find the very informative, I too have put a machine needle through my finger. I had acrylic nails on and the needle broke in three pieces. 2 of which were in my finger. A trip to emergency room and 4 stitches later I have learned to keep finger away from the moving parts of my sewing machine. PS. I have been sewing for about 5 yrs when that happened. Feel better soon. ❤

    I love the bag. I would go around the top another time. Somehow I would do an x on the handles where you are sewing then together, maybe even on the outside. Maybe use batting on that piece of of canvas both sides of it. Its a nice bag. Thank you.

    That one inch wide leftover plastic is great for bookmarks. Either make a fabric sleeve and slip plastic in OR you can cross stitch with yarn. Some libraries take those plastic pieces for the kids to make bookmarks during summer. Also senior homes with creative classes each week could do that too. I bet a lot of you can think of ideas for those strips too. Just a thought with summer crafts at park and rec locations.

    I used the steps and techniques for this bag to make my grandchildren Trick or Treat bags this year and personalized each one with their name on the back. I just didnt use batting or felt or anything to make it have more structure. I just left it “floppy”. Ive used your easy technique for about every bag I make. Thank you for explaining it so simply.

    Great tutorial! Sorry for your injury. Many of us have learned (the hard way) that quilting and sewing is fraught with hazards. I’ve only ever made one bag and I remember thinking it was SO hard. But you have made me want to try it again. My handles did not have batting in them and I soon recognized that as a BIG mistake. They were so flimsy and cut right into your shoulder any time you put anything at all into the bag. And I’ve never seen that plastic mesh used in the bottom. That seems like a good idea, too. Thanks once again for a great video!

    Oh my goodness, a little late to comment, I'm sorry about your finger. While I was sewing my baby's bedding many years ago, I did the same thing, I was still pregnant at the time and my husband came home to find our kitchen table and my sewing machine splatted with blood. The plastic you used for the bottom of your bag is called plastic canvas. My mom used to make different projects with it and yarn. The small piece you tossed would be great for a bookmark;) lol. I like it for the base stability but because I like my bags to be washable, I would make a sleeve for the plastic and put it just in the bottom of the bag to be removable;) Thanks for you great teaching tutorials and I’m sorry you hurt your finger. I love it. Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry to hear about our injury. On one of our trips to Ren Fest I was talking to one of the vendors who makes garments and he talked about getting his finger caught in his industrial machine. NOPE!!! Ever since then I have this fear of getting too close. I have gotten too close to the screw that tightens on the needle and that hurts like the dickens. I hope your finger recovers soon. Take care.

    Tip for after sewing your finger...put a bandaid on so tight. It keeps it from hurting.

    Beautiful bag! I will be making one for sure. I think i will use webbing and run it all the way around the bag instead of making straps. Just a thought since I have plenty. I also like ti akea box with a big X thru it to secure the straps. You did an amazing job. Enjoy it! So u never explained the finger accident? See ya soon 💕

    I am looking for a bag to hang on my cabinet door that has a sepeaator so I can put my large plastic lids on one side and small on the other. I think I can do this bag and use the plastic (covered) as a divider. And FYI as a Cosmetologist I have cut my knuckles off SO! many times so I get that you get careless in your finger position. But that being said I have gotten nervous watching you b4 at times. lol SORRY! you had an accident. Hope it heals quickly.

    Seam allowances? I don’t know what measurement to use. Also, should the seam allowances for the lining be the same as for the outer bag?

  • @ISeeStarsQuilting

    @ISeeStarsQuilting

    I usually just stick to a 1/4" seam allowance on all my projects now - I know clothing designers use different seam allowances for different projects. And yes, I used the same sem allowance for the inner lining as well. I hope your bag came out super cute! I would love to hear how it went for you 🥰🥰

    @@ISeeStarsQuilting it really did. I made a Hello Kitty tote for my granddaughter who’s eight, so I scaled it down just a bit, and she was thrilled with her bag. She made her dad take her straight to the craft store so she could show it off. Thank you for the tutorial, it really helped a lot! Thanks also for the answer.

    It COULD be? But the outside of the bag (not the yellow in this case) is the quilted side and more what I would consider the front.

    I feel so bad that you sewed your finger. A few years ago I was using a tiny crochet hook to poke a hole in a cardboard basket and it went through the bag and into my finger. My brother in law had to cut the end off so I could remove my finger from the basket. I went to the ER because the hook was attached to my finger and we couldn’t pull it out. Everyone in the ER had a good laugh. All worked out well but it hurt. Feel better ❤️

    I felt so bad for you, running over a finger with the needle is so painful. I know from personal experience. The only thing worse is having the needle break off in your finger and trying to get it out, Then you know what real pain is. I cried like a baby when my husband worked on getting the piece of needle out. So I ordered one of those purple thangs. LOL
