I have watched this over and over. You -- Jenny Doan -- are the reason I am where I am today. I have a successful Etsy shop - of which 75% of the fabrics used for my items come from M*. I had a big, gaping whole in my soul at the time I first saw your first vid, and when I heard the sound of my machine (you were using in that vid), combined with your gentle voice, I allowed you to walk right into my life, and you've been there ever since. I hope someday we can meet in person. Nancy.

I'd love to see your Etsy shop - do you mind sharing a link?
Awesome technique!! I had a "sewing school" at my house this week for my granddaughter and two nieces. They learned all about sewing machines and each made an adorable tote bag using this video as our instruction. Jenny, the girls, ages 9 & 11, were amazed at how wonderful their bags are as we'll as how fast you sew! We all agreed that you are brilliant!
Jenny...thank you so much for valadating the way i sew!!! You make me smile everytime you say... just eyeball it!!! And i LOVE your high speed machine... Oh,, and thanks for showing how much easier it it to just "scootch over"without breaking thread when quilting the body of the bag.. I feel so much better now.. i'm not alone!!!! Love you Jenny!!! GrmmaBabs
Jen, you are the greatest. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. My quilting friends and I love your lessens. Pat in Ohio
Jenny- I just love your tutorials. You have such a sweet spirit it makes watching them fun. I also learn something in the process.
I just LOVE watching Jenny!!! It is so easy to learn new things to sew. I watch the tutorials as I go... I just love this woman!!!!! Thank you for everything you have taught me.
I love this and I will make some and can not wait. Right now I am finishing some curtains for my quilt room. Thanks and I will be enjoying these bags. Keep up the awesome instructions and you are so easy to understand and follow. Great Teacher...
i just love watching you jenny. you are the most fun teacher. and i have been wanting to do a bag with gunny sack material and this will be just perfect for that. thanks for all your tutorials.
I have just made one of these and for a first attempt as a real newcomer to quilting it came out great, Thank you Jenny i am all the way over in the UK but i stumbled across your videos and you make it so easy to do things i cannot thank you enough

Welcome to the Missouri Star family, Gill! Glad we could help!
Thank you so much for all your tutorials. Made this tote a little shorter with coordinating dinosaur fabric for my granddaughter to store all her toy dinosaurs. Absolutely love it!
i do alterations all the time, and this video reminded me of something. there are countless ways to do something. i think that is one of the best parts about those of us who sew. we are so creative and witty. we see all the possibilities.
I've probably made six or seven of these. I choose my charm packs based on how much I love them and what large denim pants with a complementary color that I can find at a thrift store. I use the denim for the bottom, lining & straps. Makes it way sturdier & I always put in an inner pocket. I make these for gifts. I made one for my sis to hold her laptop with double padding & a cute charm pack that would go with anything. I added charm squares just like Jenny said to make it big enough.😊
Thank you for this video. I am not into quilting, but you make me want to quilt. I really enjoy the way you teach
This is my most recent favorite (it does change when I discover a new one!). I made one of these bags for my mom and she never leaves home without it! Working on a new one this weekend! Thank you, MSQC!
Loved these little totes......would make a great gift too!!!!! Thank you Jenny you're the best.
Jenny, I want to thank you for taking the time to make all your videos. Unfortunately I have lung cancer and am no longer able to work, but I stumbled across your videos last month and bought a Singer 'Heavy Duty 4423' on eBay. I put my first lap quilt top together yesterday. I used the 'fence rail' pattern. I'm going to make these little lap quilts for everyone in my family using different patterns you teach.. Thank you!!!
You are such an awesome teacher and always so much fun to watch! I can't wait to make this bag. It's so pretty.
Love this and all your tutorials!!!! I watch so many that when my hubby hears your opening music, he knows where to quack!!!

I just made a tote bag using 9 charms on each side, I LOVE IT. I love the pattern and the way it goes together. Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I have the first Bookazine with the pattern but the video tutorial really does it for me, thanks again. Janet Jaeger
This is the nest! Jenny you are awesome! I watched the video once at work then came home and got busy. Super fast and flawless!!! I'm so excited- thank you thank you!
Thanks!! Mom really is the best!! Thank you for the kind note!!
This is such a great idea Jenny. Instead of using charm packs, since I always have leftover fabric from making a baby quilt, I cut into squares and make a matching bag to use as the gift bag. Thanks for the pattern.

i'm a newbie and your tute is easy to follow and has given me courage to complete my first project. Thank you - I'll be tuning in again
I finally made this. I made 3 rows of 4. Added two pockets inside. It was a great learning experience. I will make more and they’ll come out with better handles than this first time. Thanks for the tutorial.
I love watching her videos. This is my “go to” to follow along when I put the linings in my bags. She really does a great job with her step by step instruction. I just love her!
Hello MSQC! Thank you so much form ALL your great tutorials. I`m from germany. Next year I will make my first plate. Thank you and all the BEST for 2013.
Jenny, That is darling and simple enough for anyone to do. You can make them look just like the ones that sell for quite a bit of money! Thank you for your instructions, I love your video's! You are my favorite quilting instructor on you tube! :)

I made some bags for gifts and left the opening to turn at the top. Than it was sewn as I did stitched around the top. It seemed to save a step. The bags Jenny made are beautiful! Thank you for the awesome videos.

That's a good idea plus it would be a great place to add a fabric loop to close over a button on the other side of the bag!
Jenny, I an a student of yours on Craftsy and love your lessons on there! This video on You tube is the best.. i watched it once and got up to the handles part then had to watched the last few steps. Now, I have the perfect spring tote! I am going to make a winter style one today! I have been trying to make tote bags for years One afternoon with you and now I have succeeded! Thank You so much! Xmas gift bags for 2013!
Jenny I just finished one of the totes but made it a bit smaller with 8 charms as it is for my granddaughter and also made her one of the charm pack skirts to match for her birthday. She will be so excited I hope!!! You are a wonderful teacher and I love your videos. I would love to see some for placemats. I have 2 more granddaughters that have birthdays in April and May and all the girls are sisters so they will all be matching by the time I am done. Thanks so Much for all your time for us.
Love this bag demo. I am on my second tote bag and want to thank you so much for the very clear directions!!
I've watched several videos for totes on KZread, but this one is the best! Besides, you're my favorite to watch hehehe!!
Yeah I have made a bag using your video. Your instructions are very clear. I cut my squares from the bottom of my curtains that I had shortened and found some matching material. This is a first in quilting for me. Thanks again
Jenny once again you come up with these wonderful ideas yes I agree you are a star in Missouri Quilt co now my retired husband has gone out to buy a sewing machine so the two of us will be sewing hihi
I made one for my daughter. Thank you for this tutorial💕
I love your tutorials and they have taught me so much more about how to quilt. Thank you Jenny for taking the time to make these tutorials and to teach all of us. I am in the process of making one of these bags but in a much larger size. I just hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew. lol

This was a great tutorial. I made one for my laptop. It took 20 charms total but it's a perfect size. Thanks for posting this tutorial!
This is one of the best videos I've seen to learn, thank you so much!!
Awesome! I've just made myself a bag in one afternoon - thank you, Jenny for making these things easy :)
I cannot wait to make these: We have rented a house on Lake Michigan for a week in August, and all the kids and grandkids will be there. I'm going to make all the girls and little ones a tote bag to put their beach goodies into. Since the bags are washable, what better to use for magazines, snacks, sand shovels and of course all the found shells. You are amazing!
You are an AMAZING teacher! I’m gonna make a few for friends and family for the beach...👍🏻👵🏻💕
Thank you so much for showing me how to do this!

Loved this so I made some. As for the leftover 6 charms I just used 2 per tote to make pockets on the lining. I sewed one onto each side. For me I needed one for my cell phone and the other for my glasses. I also added buttons for extra security to where the straps meet the bag. For the pockets I ironed in the raw edges and topped stitched all around and then I used a zigzag to attach. Worked out well and like Jenny always says "I don't like to waste" :D What a great easy project. Thanks Jenny as always!

Totally loved it Thank you so much 😊
Made this tote for myself. Customer from Post Office bought two more from me. The tut was so helpful and easy to follow, and they will last a long, long time.
Hi there. I love your lessons. I've made a pin wheel quilt, and several bags. I took the charm pack bag and made a duffle bag with it. I also made several pillow cases. Thank you so much for taking your time to show everyone like me how to make awesome stuff. I've been taught by my family to s. They are verbal teachers. I learn by watching. Again thank you so much.
the magnetic catches I get from Joann's you add on last. you just make some tiny slits in the fabric and fold some tabs back so don't worry you can easily add these on later
Just made one without the batting as I didnt have enough but it still turned out great - I also made it reversible using the charm pack to make the liner - sending it to my mother-in-law as a little 'thinking of you' gift!

Hello Ms. Jenny. Thank you for all the wonderful tutorials. Its a good thing I don't live in your town if not I would be in your store everyday and I would be broke. I love how you teach. You take the mystery out of quilting and you make quilting easy to understand. Can't wait for your next tutorial. God Bless you and your family. Your the best :)
Thank you Jenny you explain things so well especially with the zip which can be tricky
Thank you Jenny love watching your tutorials xx

I just wanted to say thank you. My 10 year old daughter and I are learning to sew together and your quilted handbag tutorial is the inspiration and guide for her first big sewing project. She decided she wanted stripes instead of squares but the basic plan is the same. Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial, Rodney

Hi Jenny, following your instructions , which are so easy to understand, have made a lovely Tote bag out of squares of fabric I had left over from various projects. I have also followed your tutorials for quilting, again, easy to follow instructions, so thanks and here's to following some more of your tutorials. Diane .
I just made this and I can’t even believe it! ❤️ beginner sewer here ✋🏼😍
Thank you so much. I just finished my new bag. Your are the best teacher. I have never ever sew on sewing machine. This is my first "master piece" and I am so happy that I am going to sew something again.

You are mesmerizing to watch. You make it all look so easy.
I made one of these for my granddaughter for her 20th birthday and she loved it. I just finished two more for my sister and niece. I thought it would be too hard for me but you made it so easy with your instructions, so thank you.
I LOVE that Ginny is always clear with her instructions, shows exactly how to do something and we can ALWAYS hear her. So many novice "How to" videos do not increase the volume of their voice, nor do they block out background noise. I turn those people off immediately and go straight to Ginny at The Missouri Star Quilt Company. She should always be your first stop when looking for quilting help! Thank you!!!
Thank you for this tutorial. I made a large library tote bag today using this video. Very fun! Thank you!
Oh Jenny, you are just the best!! I love ur tutorials. I made this bag for a 11-14 y/o girl in the operation Christmas child campaign done every year by Samaritan's Purse. I put all her goodies, to include a small sewing kit and some brightly-colored, printed fat quarters, then I put everything into her box to go overseas. I'm so excited that I was able to make this purse so that she could keep all her things together. You made it so simple even I could do it. I'm brand new to sewing/quilting and I could follow ur instructions with ease. If I could now just figure out how to post a picture to show the finished product I'd amaze myself yet again. Keep these wonderful, simple projects coming. You're the bomb!!!!!!!
I just love all your tutorials I have learned so much from them and made a few things from them. This Christmas I need a quick gift and I use your pillow case tutorial and made all my grandkids pillow cases to match there rooms. If I get stumped as to what I want to make I just look at your totorals and pick out my next project. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Making one for my granddaughter for her photography class. Love all your tutorials. You are very talented

Jenny - absolutely loved this! Watched it on Friday evening and by Sunday tea time had my first (of many!) tote bags. Would have been quicker but real life kept intervening! Would have used batting in the handle but it put up too much of a fight when I was trying to cut it! Oh, and just a tip for anyone reading this - always make sure that your turning hole is big enough - it's a real tussle to turn it through if it's not!!! Thank you for yet another wonderful project! Sarah
Thank you debzbenz! We hope you have a wonderful time on your vacation and that the kids and grand kids enjoy their tote bag!
It's too late at night for me to begin now .. but first thing in the morning I'm heading to the sewing room and I'm making this tote ... Fantastic Jenny ... Thank You so much for showing us how to make this ... I'm going to make mine bigger and put pockets inside ... But you make it look so easy ... I can't wait to try it out !!! :-) Love it !!!!!
Thank you very much for this video. I am a beginner sorta of returning to sewing after a very long time and I think I can accomplish this. I appreciate your instruction.
I made my first quilted tote bag using this video...I used valentine charm pack and it turned out very nice! Thank you so much for this video!
I've been sewing a long time but never felt the need to quilt until I saw the Missouri Star tutorials, pretty much by chance. It always seemed like hard work but in the last week I have made a quilt top, a Dresden plate cushion cover (and I am making another as a rug) and one of these very cute totes. I can't believe how easy things go together. It took me a little while to get used to not backstitching every seam and tying off ends but how liberating is that! Your efforts are very much appreciated - I'm sure if I paid for a course to learn all this in the UK it would cost a small fortune. Thank you so much
Fast, fun and fabulous! Thanks Jenny.
Great project for my grandauthers. Thanks Jenny.
