I might be trying the 2nd option, two separate pieces, next. That one seems a bit easier for me since I won't have to sew a very long stitch to get the two pieces together.
This is my very first quilt. I have tried before but I was doing triangles and couldn't get them to stay square, and that was years ago. I also took a regular blanket and used it for batting, a length of fabric that had a steam engine going through the snow and I think 3 or 4 yards of navy blue fabric. I didn't know how to do any quilting and we didn't have KZread back then. I sewed about 2-foot section at the top of the train material and the rest on the bottom and then pinned it to the blanket and then decided to get more of the blue for the back. It didn't stand up very well because I didn't know how to quilt but my ex loved it at the time. Mine won't look as random as yours because I only have 5 patterns on my strips. I bought mine at Walmart and they came in a bag of 20 strips 2.5"x42. I bought 2 bags that matched. But so far, besides the fact that I wish I had more variation, I am liking how it's going so far. It's definitely helping me learn to sew straight. Thank you so much!! <3
🎼It’s music that inspires me to move, to sew, to dance, to feel…music opens emotions and memories like lifelong friends. Please consider a monthly (or perhaps weekly?) inspirational video for all of us, your subscribers…❤
Hi!! I'm new to your channel and new to quilting ... but I am an old lady ... late to the game ... I think you're wonderful and enjoy your videos ... thanks for sharing your talents ...
Thank you so much! And Welcome, we are so glad you are here doing this with us. We are never too old.
Fine by me, what you would like to call it! I'll watch it anyways! Lol! It looks great! I have never done this technique before...will give it a try!
Do you have a video about sewing the two ends of binding together? I’m always just a hair off and it makes the binding too long by like 1/4 inch
I just received my first box! I was so excited to receive it and see what goodies were in it! Wow! I was SOOOO disappointed! Absolutely NOT worth the money! The Fat Quarter Shop puts out a monthly bos as well and they are waaaay better than Mrs. Quilty by far! I will wait to receive my second box but if it isn't any better than this first box then I'm cancelling any further shipments. This is MY honest review!
Oh no, I hate that!
My grandmother used all kinds of fabrics, cotton, blends, polyester, etc. She was given bags of scraps from a local sewing factory. I loved every stitch!! Quilt with what you can afford thrift store, sheets, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, it matters that you create!
That is awesome!
Thank you!!!
Do you have a video putting on two borders? Is it the same?
Borders for the quilt? It is the same as putting on 1 border. You just keep adding fabric around your design. I do not have a video with mitered corners for borders yet though. Just squared off borders is what I usually do for my own quilts
Thank u soooo much. U r a great teacher❤❤❤
So nice of you, thank you!
Thank you Kristen!! I enjoyed this tutorial and am happy that it is much easier and less complicated than I would have thought. I can't wait to try this. I'll have to make some mug rugs to practice on. This was a great tutorial.
I can't wait to hear how you like it.
The faux flange usually gets extra points in quilt shows. I'm not sure
Better looking than the sun and sea you used as inspiration!
I use a Singer iron and Best Press for seams. It's ok, it works well. I finally started that braid quilt. It is coming out really nice.
Thank you for the demo is easier than I think
You are welcome!
Thanks Kristen for always being there for us
That is so sweet! Thank you!
Good morning, I think I like the second technique. It really seems really easy to do. I have two extra blocks that I will definitely practice on so I can actually do it on a larger quilt. You, as always, have a great way of explaining and teaching new techniques, espy for a beginner.
That is so kind of you. Thank you!
I love Flatter. Use it all the time. I really like this faux piping. You make it look easy. I will be trying it on my next binding project. Thanks for a great tutorial.
You are so welcome, I am glad you love it as well. 🤩
I have always struggled with binding. I tried your 3” binding on my last one and it was wonderful. Thank you!
YAY! I am so happy to hear that. 😍🥰
I really enjoy your tutorials Kristen, thank you, l was hoping you might be able to show us how to join your ends when finished
I will make note of that for another video.
I love this. Thank you so much!
That makes me happy.
Thank you for explaining everything in so much detail. Truly some of us newbies need it. Thank you. I also really like the wild mint flatter ironing spray. I was a best presser but I think I've been converted to flatter brand. Love your video. Thank you!
You are so welcome. I hope it was very helpful.
I like Flatter spray better than Best press😊
Thank you Kristen for this tutorial. I am definitely going to try it now.
Thank you Kristen. It’s like sewing with a friend.
Ohh Christen, amazing! My favorite is the second one, but both are great! ❤ And I love Best Press.
Thank you for this tutorial. I think they are both wonderful, however, the second one makes more sense to my brain. Great ideas!!
I am so glad!!!
Thanks for showing both ways to make the faux piping/flange. I hope to try it on a wall hanging I have planned. Always a pleasure watching your videos.
You are very welcome. I hope it was helpful.
Thank you. I love hearing you talk. I always learn new tips and tricks from you. Blessings.
That is so sweet Bev, thank you for watching! 😍
Your makeup looks great today!
Awe, you are to kind. Thank you!
I like both 😊I haven’t seen the second way before so will try that thanks
I hope you love it.
My pressing technique is hot dry iron (old Black and Decker) spray water if needed. 😊 I love hand stitching my binding.to the back. I will be trying the second method with the twist of attaching the second on the front so I can still stitch on the back. Looks amazing. Thanks
Me too I prefer the hand sewn look rather than extra line of stitching
I look forward to hearing how it goes.
What is the pattern
I love the pattern I just bought 3 layer cakes
This could've been a much shorter video. You made it very long by talking more than necessary.
Ma'am your rude comment was unnecessary. Hope you have a better evening.
Sorry you felt that way, but thank you for watching anyways. I really wanted people to understand the whole process, and teach it the best way I know how.
I loved the video and I need all the explanations. You do you!
@@ISeeStarsQuilting Shorter?.... really? I LOVE her videos,...the more information/detail, the better - in my opinion! You can always put Settings on 2X speed and get through it a bit quicker if needed...
Sweetie, one of the charms of her channel is her gift of gab and her outgoing personality. I have often thought about this with other channels and then I remember 2 years ago just starting out and needed detailed instructions. Be happy that you don't need them anymore, and kindly resist the urge to complain to someone who is doing a great job doing what most of us cannot...TEACH.
My local Menards has Best Press for $4.99
ooh, interesting. I think I'm going to try this. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome! 😍
I pour Best Press from the gallon jug into a tiny 3 ounce spray bottle and use it ONLY on seams. I am trying to be frugal and use it only where it can do the most good.
I mix best press with water. It was an inadvertent error the first time because I had water in my spray bottle already. So I mix two thirds of a bottle of best press with one third water and it works fine.
I've even heard of some people mixing half and half with water. I haven't done it myself but I suppose it would depend what your project is - just flatter straight seams may be okay, but I'm not sure how diluted you would want to go with bias edges, for example.
I would have liked this to be a demo video rather than the constant repeating that this is a game changer. I kept advancing the video but the sewing demonstration was never there. Just my POV, I like presenters that get right to the point of the video.
Oh my gosh...I just subscribed to you on a previous video, then I see this one...and discover that we're 'neighbors'!! Yes, the power outage has been chaotic to say the least... Howdy to my fellow Texan! 🤠🤠
Thanks for subbing! Well hey neighbor!!
This video popped up as I was searching for easy quilt binding. First, you are really pretty, with a good attitude, nice voice, and interesting presentation style. Second...BLESS YOU!!! YES to the wider binding! BIG hugs from your new subscriber!! 🤗🤗
Thank you so much! Glad you are here.
I use up ugly fabric. If it has a light background you can overdye it with Rit and make it match your project.
Thank you for sharing that.
Outstanding job.
Thank you very much!
I love watching NCIS, 911,Grey's Anatomy.
Color catcher life savers
So funny 😂
Yes piping binding video
