I love the idea of doing more improv, also here for the move towards more sustainability instead of the rampant consumerism of getting the "next collection". While I adore the lines that many of these artists make, I think doing smaller or yearly releases with more emphasis on creativity with what you can do with that new line, incorporating elements from collections past etc makes more sense for the ethos behind quilting. That being said, I am guilty of having a fabric stash to mirror a small store and am working on focusing on what I have. I am also here for the PEACH. I recently had to move all of my fabric around (which is how I know I have too much) and decided to do a color sort on all of my random 1/2 and 1 yard cuts and low and behold PEACH was my most collected color. Can't wait to see all the yummy color combos that people come up with throughout the year, both in quilting and in other artistic arenas. Wonderful video, made me think!

I especially like handmade and improve. To me, they're almost one and the same. I love sitting at the machine and handling the s seeing what I can make. I do try to follow patterns, but I often I say "I wonder what would happen if I..." and then often it's off on an adventure.

I was going to offer a great trend idea and you just mentioned it...Improv quilting. Another trend or return trend is hand quilting. I think the Big Stitch is responsible for that. It's fast, colorful and modern. I guess the trend of using high contrast thread is an extension of that. I think these trends will be here for quite awhile znd may never die out...yes, quilting is changing!!! ( for the good, in my opinion)

The trends didn’t really speak to me. I don’t plan to do hand quilting, but I have begun doing slow stitch embroidery. It’s a way to combine quilting scraps, old clothing and trims, and improv ideas. I haven’t felt the mindfulness other slow stitchers talk about, but I do feel a connection to my grandmother who taught me my first embroidery and quilting stitches.
