Simple Spiny Peaks Quilt using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 10th in our series to use leftover strips!
Tenth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This pattern was designed for a colorful jelly roll and a white jelly roll but leftover 2 1/2 inch strips in two different colors will work just as easily!
I chose a high contrast between the two colors. The hot pink and black together are bold and the finished quilt is striking! A subtle difference between the two colors would also be beautiful but more relaxed with a softer pattern.
Here is the link to the pattern used in the video, "Spiny Peaks," by Zen Chic for Moda. This pattern is one of the many Project Jelly Roll patterns they have available online for free!

• Projects using 2 1/2" ...
Stay to the end to see the finished quilt and see what the backing looks like! I also show what i did with my extra cut off pieces from the strip sets and the edge of the quilt! Don't throw away those extra bits! Make something out of them!
There is also an update on the 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket situation!
I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
If you don't have leftover strips from other projects to make scrappy quilts, cut up fabrics in your stash into 2 1/2" strips to make the project. No stash of fabric? Head to your local quilt shop and buy a jelly roll or some very pretty fabric to cut into strips! Shop owners are more than happy to help you find the perfect fabric, don't be shy, ask for help if you need it!

I agree with you! Two and a half inch strips can be the basis of many quilt designs. It gives you a strategy to cope with every kind of fabric design and color. As shown in the video, you can select a color scheme and be on your way to successful scrap style patchwork. Red, yellow and blue; patriotic colors, all pastels: there are lots of ways to unify scraps.
Another fabulous 2 1/2" strip quilt - thank you.
Just when I am sure you can’t top what you have already presented in this fabulous, fun series, you prove me wrong! I am gobsmacked! You never cease to amaze! Your presentations and calm, wonderful voice make each video so encouraging.
Shelley, another winner! This pink-and-black is really striking! I’m really enjoying this whole series. Thanks for sharing all this work with us!
Love the finished quilt and the little half square triangles, 4 patches, and scrap lines that you made. Thank you for the video 😊
I don't quilt, I crochet but this was wonderful to watch! Beautiful scrapping!
I like the way you use up the little bits at the end. I've always done this, so seeing new ideas for how things can go together is always interesting for me!

Gorgeous color combo!! Looking at the completed quilt I had a flashback to my old crocheting days in the 70’s 😳 and those orange & black chevron afghans. 😉. This is much faster!! Thanks for sharing!

I loved this quilt so much. Pink is my color, black really made it pop! Thank you for the pattern.
WOW!!! This is a great quilt and yet so simple. Thanks for sharing.
Your videos ALWAYS inspire me to do more!! We are kindred spirits on scraps! I always see potential in the bits of fabric. As a longarmer - most of my customers don't want the trim and tell me to toss. I do - right into my bins. i am chairperson for our QOV group. Folks are always donating scraps that I will press and subcut for our projects.😊
U look marvelous today & ready to finish those projects. I'm the same with 2 projects to be sent to family.
I love it….thanks for the instruction and the tips….I am making one with my scraps!
Love your black and pink combination. Your instructions are so easy to follow. Thanks for the great inspiration!
It's gorgeous!
Wow! Fabulous!!
I really love this one! So pretty!
So pretty, love it🎉
I love this & you! I appreciate all the ideas on using up what we have. My goal is to use up. Thank you ❤
I may not have many 2 1/2 inch strips, but your techniques for using fabric creatively has been very helpful making scrappy borders. Thanks so much.
I love these video's - I'm so inspired to use up my strips! While I know you are working the strip buckets down, I hope there are lots more video's in the future. I have learned so much - thank you!
Love it.
I love this series of using your scraps! Another winner!
This series is so much fun! ❤ What a great little dolly quilt you could make with your leftovers.
Very pretty🎉
How fun! I can see a little 10 year old girl or a teen just loving this quilt! I like the way you organised your sewing, and plan to do the same. I'm glad I'm not the only one to make use of all the scraps! I put the tiniest ones in a big white milkglass bowl as I go, and thoroughly enjoy looking at the beautiful colors all together as I fill the bowl! It's a good way to see that I am also making progress. I don't use them as stuffing when the bowl is full, but I give them to a friend of mine does! She stuffs dog beds for the Friends of Pets Thrift Shop.
Love the bright pinks and black together!!
Very informative. I have so many 2 1/2" straps. Thank you.
very cute quilt!
I’m under the weather I’ve watched this 3 times 😊 This quilt at first wasn’t sure about it but in the end it’s stunning! I realize you can use any 2 colors but gosh I love the pink. And I have next to nothing in my fabric stash in pink. That’s about to change😊😊
I love this series. Your quilt is awesome. Of course a great success!!! Even the little blocks from leftovers are adorable. I’m looking forward to see what you make with them . Thank you so much for sharing.

M’y first time watching your lovely video. Now I am all set to binge watch the rest. Why does everyone else’s scrap stash look more interesting than mine? Love those pinks but I don’t have any. IAM trying to get over being too matchy matchy on my first scrap quilt. Au revoir from France ❤❤👏👏
Beautiful!!
