Thank you Marty. I've been playing guitar for 40 plus years, mostly Rhythm with a few self taught, thru observation riffs. I've reached the point where I must learn basic scales to move on and add some spice to my playing. This video has gotten me started to learn basic scales to practice and hopefully I can move on from there. Keep on Jamming and teaching. And THANK YOU SOOO MUCH.

Finally, a clear & easy-to-understand explanation of how to get started with modes. I've watched other videos, but they try to put too much information out all at once. Of course, those videos aren't necessarily bad because of this, but I feel a lot of players want to take it in smaller bites. I like how you keep a slow pace with each bit of info getting enough time for the viewer to let it sink in, before you go on to more info. I've played a long time, & have stumbled into some accidental modal playing at various times, but I knew I'd only scratched the surface, & worse, I felt like I didn't really know WTF I was doing. Your video felt to me like a great place to get started, and now some of the info in other videos makes more sense. Thanks, I liked & subscribed.

Wow that actually helped. For a minute I was thinking it can’t be this simple and complex at the same time haha but it really is and really isn’t. You were using G Ionian for all the chords played but because you were changing the chord and the starting and ending note the mode was being played on it changed the whole sound. I can’t believe how simple it was. It goes to show that it’s the chords being played and the tonal center that dictates the mode that works best.
