Hey Marty. My dad is very ill. He’s an old rocker. I’m going to a festival where a friend is playing in a band and he offered to let me come up and play if my dad is well enough to sing. I asked my dad what song he would do and he said Larry Graham’s “One In A Million” Odd for a rocker but he loves R&B. Huge request here!! In the next week can you post simple chord progressions for that song??? I know it’s a big ask. I’m hoping to make a lasting memory. I struggle to read music, but one play through of your tutorials and I got it. I used someone else’s video to learn. When I play the song through my PA and go through the chord progressions, it sound horrible. If you can help THANK YOU!!!

i think it's good to dabble with modes early on, but learning all the positions of the pentatonic scale somewhat well before really diving to modes, gives you a great base to build other scales on! the five positions are actually surprisingly easy to learn, i learned the basic root on the lowest string position and the one above that first, then after i knew those by heart i added the others. what really made me learn them all well, was to learn them 3 strings at a time. so i started with Am pentatonic, and figured out all the notes in all 5 positions, on the G, B and E strings first. played them up and down for couple days. then i did the same for the E, A and D strings, then i tied them together in a day and boom, a week after i could play every position! i continued to go through them couple times a day every day and now about two months after, i can actually move the scales to pretty much whatever root note i want and the shapes are there! this 3 strings at a time up and down method ensured, that i got more repetitions on all the positions, rather than just trying to clumsily stumble my way through the full 6 string scale patterns. it was way easier, and i mean waaay easier to lock the shapes to memory 3 strings at a time rather than 6 strings at a time, i learned 3 positions just as fast as i learned the first one which i approached by trying to learn the whole shape at once. next stop is trying to do the same to major and minor scales and modes is something i want to try to understand aswell now. sry for long winded text, hope this helps somebody at all and feel free to ask if something's incoherent, i try to clear up on that. 2nd language so hard to explain concepts sometimes 😁 cheers!

Just finished a couple courses on scales and it explained modes for me in an understandable way for the first time. Then I came across this video and you really cleared the air! Thank you for this straight forward way to look at modes! I wish I had not been so intimidated by the concept for so many years! I'm an old dude now but I'm learning many new tricks.

Now, I’m coming back to it at 40 and teaching my 10-year old son to play (bought him his first guitar this year). Can’t wait for the chance to look at your class, Marty.
