During the early spring, you truly have the best opportunity to catch the biggest bass of your life! Female bass are full of eggs and weigh the heaviest they will weigh all year long.
This is also one of the best opportunities to find some of the biggest schools of bass that you will see all year long. Not to mention, bass just really go on the feed bag right before they head to their spawning areas so catching them can be easy and fun once you find them.
Early spring happens at different times of the year depending on where you live. We will define early spring as the period of time directly before the bass start their spawning rituals.
In bass fishing terms we consider this period of time, the pre-spawn. Typically this is when water temperatures are between 45 and 60 degrees. However, this is not necessarily a bass fishing law.
Bass will spawn in different water temperatures across the nation. Smallmouth typically spawn before largemouth and in colder water, such as 55 degrees.
Largemouth can also spawn in water that is colder than 60 and they also will also spawn in 80 degree water temp in warmer parts of the country, like Florida.
With all that being said, if the water is in the 60s, the majority of bass will be shallow and could spawn at any time.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

What if my lake doesn’t have a main river channel
You have provided an excellent and easy to follow method for breaking down a section of lake. Your sensible and straightforward approach is well done. As an intermediate level bass angler your description of the bass highway explains so many things. For me, you are connecting the dots! Thanks so much.
At least once in my life, I would love to find bass with their feed bags on 😊
You're right about their being no absolutes in bass fishing. I fished mosquito madness in May 2021. I found bass spawning on main lake shoreline. It was kind of a wake-up call that bass don't follow a textbook.
This video marks a full year of your guises that I’ve watched. And I have learned that every season is gonna be the best time of year to catch large bass
I watch a ton of fishing videos and this is very informative and well explained. Love it

Honest truth take it and run but what he’s saying holds very true and then bass will come in waves spawning usually like he said you just gotta remember when cold fronts come through in the spring that sometimes they might be shallow then a front hits or is close and you will notice they’ll pull back out to the mouth of the creek or somewhere along that highway when it happens usually they’ll lock down and when he says protected areas, hard bottom rock and gravel is about as good as it gets for spawning bass, mostly long as it’s protected by wind that’s the major player. Spawn can run past 70 degrees too lol I got my first bed fish last season in 59 degrees and my last one in low 70s eggs full of lol they come in waves but more murky water they more shallow they’ll get earlier for the heat on the rocks etc..the clearer water stay more natural with bait colors and just remember they can sometimes be on them offshore area by them highways too..when u see pros and avg joes in the middle of the lakes that’s what’s poppin a lot of times they’re catching prespawn to post spawn bass and cold fronts and then slots will reload!!! Tight lines and good luck..definitely great info he gave if your a beginner just keep following stuff like this and don’t overthink it..stick with what your confident in to! Everyone fishes little different!
I enjoy watching your videos
You know I watch your videos all the time Tyler. I can’t wait for spring here in Michigan. I’m dying right now as lakes are starting to freeze. Luckily the weather has been inconsistent and the ice on my little 500 acre lake has been melting occasionally and then starting to get thinly frozen again once in a while.

Almost time here in Michigan. Gotta get refreshed. Thanks
Great breakdown. I just caught the first Smallies of the year, last week, Willamette Valley, OR.
Thank you so much this guide was amazing 🙌
Just got back from fishing the PreSpawn. In the low 50's and Sunshine. But little wind under 5 mph. Fishing the North end where the water heats up quicker. It's 3-08-21. The ice came off the water a week and a half ago. Water temps in the mid 40's. With rain and 60 degrees coming next week. The water was down about 4 feet. I fished using Red colors on all lures. The off red Wiggle Wart with a clear bottom. Killed it! Great Wiggle. Smaller bait was a little hard to get use too. But once I got it dailed in. Bam! Backed up by a H2O lipless in Red craw. Action different but just as deadly. Followed up by a Z-Man original Chatterbait in Red and Black with a Sweet Beaver in Pumpkin and a Purple belly and flakes. The bass hit hard and fought a little bit. There lips are still Red. Caught 15 in all. Shawn.
LOVE THIS!!!

Awesome video! Very informative!
Hey Tyler, Thanks for your channel I just found it the other day and I really loved this last video it is going to help me out alot. I am fishing in South Dakota and I have permission to fish a lake that has state record fish in it for sure. The local Game Warden has told me that in the last 5 years 3 bass have been caught over the 10 lbs. Our state record is 9lbs5oz but the locals here don't care and all 3 were taken home and eaten!!!! See it is a dam on a Indian reservation and soon as the tribe lift their Covid19 restrictions I can get back on to fish it. So your videos are helping me alot. Rhank you!!!

Ive been on a 3 or 4 time no skunk day ! And its all cause these pockets of the lake and I also found this app called deep dive and idk but every hot zone is says I go near to it or sometimes at it and I have not gotten skunk at that lake to this day😭going back tomorrow I caught a 1.8 with yellow chartreuse seanko t rig bass p brand, and first time the streak started seankos it’s just been all seankos again😭and spinner bait once

I'm sad 😔 of all lures you didn't mentioned worms none my Gator lure. I guess I will have to learn something new. Great information 👍. Awesome 👌
Sometimes it’s good to just have a dang good reminder!!! that seems to hold true any lake!!!! I definitely have noticed the smallies like to typically down deeper and in colder waters as said and bass come in waves..I feel the first wave of females sometimes maybe it just me seems to be big girls!!!! I live off a murky water timber /rock filled lake and they will get shallow fast as you said little more then my stained and clearer water lakes which to me makes them even more predictable…nothing like finding a good pre spawn lost spawn staging area as there comin in and feeding back out sheesh it’s fun to get on em and full a lot that is when you know you found the pre spawn meet and seems like it’s a prespawn then prespawn:spawn always going on same time then I’ve seen June in ky hit and water hits 71 and catching em all 3 stages as you mentioned about the warming trends! I couldn’t agree more on bait selection literally, I like to wait till after 60 degrees to really pull out my creature baits other then draws and the colors nailed it..black and blue is a staple in my murky waters on jigs and creature baits flippin timber and rock…tight lines everyone great info and the truth laid out on laymen terms I’ve learned the same thing but highlighting maps etc will help others understand lol. Some people probably think I’m crazy but I’ll idle alot usually prefishin just checking the lay out of lakes and areas before I pick a rod up on alot of lakes and just learn the lay out and what features and channels as you said the most key thing I think some good anglers need to learn..following them channel swings especially, the secondary ones can be amazing when cold fronts come in and u think they should be locked on the bed alot of times they’ll just pull back out to the creek mouth or move back out to the secondary point when bad spring storms come in I’ve noticed and red and burnt orange definitely play key especially the. Small jaws..red is most visible color in shallow water!!!

Thanks man, I plan on doing a small lake/big pond series eventually on this channel. I think the big thing is locating where the bass spawn first...once you know that, then you can look for areas just outside the spawning grounds that they will stage on. This could be a subtle drop or even cover like a stump or brushpile. Hope this helps!
This is a pretty helpful video by me the Niagara river is the trickiest body of water cuz of Niagara Falls amd the water fluctuates from 1 foot at shore then drops to 5-15 feet then 20-40ft in the core but the creeks are easiest for me cuz they are low and clear half the time but the lower Niagara River smallmouths can be in the 3-6 pound range

Anything that is hard, so if there is some laydown logs in the water, a stump, a pop can. I have seen bass in Florida spawning on PVC pip. Also, lily pad roots and reed roots. Bass will fan the silt off roots and lay eggs on them. Hope this helps!

I fish highland reservoirs. The lake I mainly fish is very deep and clear. The bass highways are in 150+ of water. I have always struggled to figure this lake out and never feel like I found groups of fish.
@BassFishingHQ

I have fish highland reservoirs during the prespawn as well. I always look for flatter points that are in creeks, secondary points. Usually I will throw a jerk bait over those points. If you can find any flatter points, then even the ones that are steep will still hold bass. You might be best to walk a jig or ned rig down those points until you find what depth the fish are sitting in. Hope this helps!

That map looks like Salt Fork.
Question, will they move into the spawning area but not go on bed until time. I guess I'm asking will they be in shallow waters in the spawning area waiting to spawn or will they hang out on the main river??? Until time.
