    Yes! When I started selling on eBay, I had it set to ‘no returns’. Was selling Blendtec twister jar. It came with a recipe card. Buyer insisted that she was led to believe it was a recipe book, though there’s photos to document it was a card not book. You are right, they forced a return based on ‘product not as described’… used it heavily for 29 days and was all scratched up. It really irritates me because it was first time realization that there are buyers with the sole intention of abusing eBay to use products for free

    Hey Justin…love your content. Slow sales for the month of February for me as well. I do NOT offer free returns and typically NEVER free shipping. That being said, every return I have is strange, usually a scammer or fraudulent return reason (maybe 1 each month on average). My average price per sale is around $90+…I think paid returns and leaving the shipping responsibility to the buyer keeps customers honest. Just my experience.

    @@JTMayo803 that’s exactly my train of thought. If they have to pay for return shipping it creates an additional barrier of effort/expense, and more likely to keep scammers at bay.

    Two dumbest returns: one was on a bicycle, buyer claimed it was "too fast", the other one was a pair of Ferragamo's ($500 shoes, sold for $25). Buyer said "they don't match my blue dress." Since then I have gone to free returns, no reason required. Ends the bull. I had a return that ebay approved as "item not described". Ebay automatically approved without any input from me and charged me return shipping. So I called ebay and asked "what in particular was not as described?" Since they approved it, I thought they could tell me. Naturally, they had no idea. So I put the returned item back for sale, same exact listing. Sold it and got spectacular feedback.......

    My grandma does not offer return but on her listing she does say, if any issues, contact her first to work out the issue. She has accepted a few items where it was not worth the stress, as the buyers were ( looking for something else, a pin size spot was not mentioned, a doll looked to "freaky") but made up a fake return. Anyhow, those few items resold as they were listed to other buyers when the items were returned by the scammers.

    I’m hesitant to use free return shipping. Too many unethical people abusing the system to use products and return. I’m not some big corporation that can eat the loss. If buyer has to pay return shipping, it would discourage the unethical ones, and it creates yet another chore or hurdle for buyer to deal with returns, so they’re more likely to not even bother.

    I hear you, but I have found that having free returns doesn't cause an increase in the number of returns. Of course, this depends heavily on what you sell and other factors. Like I said in the video, if an unethical buyer wants to abuse the system, your return policy doesn't matter... they are going to know how to open the right type of return to make the seller have to pay for the return shipping anyway. I figure I might as well offer them to get the benefits.

    Justin is correct and his reasoning is why I, too, use free returns. I haven’t seen any increase in returns as well. Also, even if you don’t offer returns all a buyer has to claim is “item not as described” without any requirement of stating why and eBay will make it mandatory that you accept the return and issue a refund.

    I got literally the dumbest return. I sold an egg incubator to a lady and usps shipping was late and she told me that since the shipping is late her chicken eggs are going to be no good and wanted to return the incubator. She literally counted her eggs before they hatched.. yes that is a true story 😤

    Side note even if you offer 30 day returns but not free returns you still get seller protection where you are able to deduct up to 50% also I sell a lot of vintage car parts and this time of year is my busy season people are fixing their cars up during winter months

    Thanks for sharing and I like that you share different aspects of reselling and of course you live in the part of the state that I lived in for 3/4 of my life. I still live in the state but on the other side. Love it when I get to come back every 4-6 weeks! So happy the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

    There are 3 reasons to be a top rated plus seller (you HAVE to offer free returns on everything): 1. Customer service much faster, 2. If a buyer returns an item in an unsellable condition - ebay more likely will pay you back the whole cost (you need to contact them), 3. You get 10% off your fees. PS Ebay didn't pay to write this! 😄

    Just thought I'd pass this along. About Those boots you bought . I've had great success cleaning up light scratches and stains on leather using a product called Passier Lederbalsam. Wipes on and buffs off with a clean rag in just a few minutes. Smells good too. Can last a long time. Just subscribed and have been Bing watching. Great stuff!

    I was wondering if you or anyone had this issue with eBay returns. I just had an item returned and it was shipped to buyer via USPS Ground for like $6.50. I got the item back in my poly mailer with the eBay return label, but it was a Priority USPS label. The priority label was placed over my original Ground label. eBay did charged me $8.80 for the return label. I do not know how this happened because the listing never gave the buyer an option other than USPS ground. Not sure if this is happening a lot or not, because I usually do not pay much attention to the label on returns.

    I tried free returns for 2 months & had to stop. Seeing my majority of inventory was action figures, I was getting lots of "purchased by mistake" or "no longer needed" reasons. Was destroying my ROI

    To get top seller plus do you have to offer seller pays for return labels in all listings? Is it worth it is say for example someone buys a printer and it's 50$ to ship it then wants to return?

    I offer free returns and could not get a negative feedback removed. I was told that they don’t do that anymore and I needed to ask the buyer to revise their feedback. Luckily they did revise to a neutral.

    Hi Justin! Thank you for your videos, I have learned so much from you! Happened to have a blue line Panasonic sitting in a cabinet for years and had no idea of the value until last week’s video! Question about returns. Do you refund the buyer the shipping they paid in the original order as well as offerimg free shipping on the return or does the buyer eat that initial shipping cost? Thanks again!

    Thanks for the kind words! As for your question, it depends on the return reason and whether or not I charged shipping in the first place. If I had free shipping, I cannot refund the shipping, so I eat the cost if it is returned. If I charge shipping, and the return reason is buyer's remorse or related, I do not refund the original shipping cost. If the return reason is related to something where I am at fault, I do refund the original shipping cost.

    Btw, are you able to sell license plates on eBay? I think it was the Nurse Flipper that got permanently banned from FB Marketplace because her mother was selling old license plates

    eBay docs say: "Top Rated Sellers and sellers who offer free returns can now offer partial refunds, up to 50%, if the item is returned in a condition different than when you shipped it." Maybe that means you either need to be a Top Rated Seller OR offer free returns? export.ebay.com/en/seller-performance/transactions/how-returns-work/
