On January 29th, 1996, the third game in the Duke Nukem series was released, this time a total overhaul bringing the series into the 3D first person shooter genre. As one of the first games to use Ken Silverman's 2.5D Build engine, it quickly became a popular hit with an audience hungry for more after the extremely successful releases of Doom and Doom II. Source: speeddemosarchive.com/DukeNuke...
At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

@user-vv7gt2hu7p

@@carlkamuti "Red Light District has basically 2 exits at the end of the level. The normal Auto destruct - button, and the other, where you are supposed to get caught in the cage. When you open the helpscreen at the end of the level, the internal timer keeps running despite it, so it buffers both exits at the same time, which basically pushes you 2 levels ahead, instead of 1."
Game of the 90's! Everyone liked Duke back in the day. He was just such an awesome badass.
I played this game when it came out. It was the most badass game I had played up to that point
6:02 Duke Nukem doesn't get captured. Duke Nukem gets so pissed off that you even THOUGHT you could capture him that he jumpes forward in time to a point where he can resume being awesome.

As dailydols said, you've probably encoutered young germans who spend many of their time online (It's not hard to discover that the english speaking Inet is far more superior than the german one) and/or are well educated. Many older german's or poorly educated people (Mostly immigrants) speak terrible english. For example: My grand parents can't even say one sentence correctly. ;) (I'm an ethnic german/white man)

One of my all time favorites. Great run!
Saying that episode 4 was hardly worked on was a slap in the face to the Xbox speedrunners. The Xbox speedrunners didnt do RTA speedruns, but they found some really neat tricks for that episode. I feel that the Xbox speedrunners at least deserved a simple shout out in this stream. At the time that this stream was uploaded, the only amazing never before seen trick in this speedrun is the Death Row skip. Not sure if it was LLCoolDave who found that but great work to the person who did.
Wow, that was simply outstanding. Didn't even realise there are so many 'portals' in DN3D, thanks for sharing !
You're a legend. This is one of my all-time favourite games.
This game came out so long ago. It feels like I've been speedrunning real life.
in general, this was a really great run. funny, impressive, and entertaining.
Okay so, I love to watch speedruns. But this is most impressive speedrun I have ever seen! :D

The door is rigidly bound to the room. The same trick with turning object got applied to the whole room.
Really funny how the whole geometry of a room depends on the door leading to it being used properly.

+Tyrian3k2 - It's a 2.5D game. The enemies are sprites, and the levels are all extrusions of 2D maps (like Doom). But in Duke 3D they added a new feature to 2.5D map design - layering. 3 people can be on the same 2D spot on the map at the same time, but depending on how they got there, the game can put them in a different layer and make it behave as if they have completely different Z (even if their Z is the same at the time) It allows for all kinds of nonsense like 620 degrees circles and other overall weirdness. I bet the door glitch has something to do with this, as it's probably a movable 2D blockade, which you can jump and stand on (how is that done, even?). I love this engine, you don't see this kind of glitches in 3D games.

Dukenukem 3 D was a great game. We played it in multiplayer coop mode. This was fun like hell. I remember this train station scene. A friend managed to be outside the train and die ;) Great Game !!
Kick ass speedrun for a kick ass game!
Also, the bit that started this whole discussion, the bit about him saying that the game is pretty much broken "at this point", he means, as people have said, that it's so old that right about everybody knows that this game has glitches up its whazoo and has found them. He's not being a smartass, he's having fun with the game, I dunno, might be a new concept for ya. Don't usually comment like this, but come on people.
Thank you for a good video!

I love how people are complaining that he skipped Death Row. 1. He pressed the exit switch on the other side of the cage, and 2. This isn't a 100% run. He doesn't have to do everything, just get done as fast as he can.
definition of a speedrun !!
That runner was super funny. "steroids for everyone!"
Used to 1vs1 with my friend in highschool on a dial up modern. This along with Warcraft 2, C&C, Rainbow Six, Quake 2, Myth 2, and the original Team Fortress / Half life. No matter how good technology is now, those were some of the best gaming moments of my life. They really need to make a new Myth.
Awesome!
Impressive !
4:50 for gameplay
Hopefully there is a Blood and Shadow Warrior run coming up! :) Blood's pretty under-rated, despite it being in the Build "Trio", with Duke and Shadow Warrior, and it's a good example of great game atmosphere and theme. Either way, looking forward to the rest of this marathon. :)

Wooow..... I'm impressed by this comment section. This is a speedrun for raising money for charity, and most of the comments seems to be about bashing the guy employing his skills for this event. The comment about him not worrying about the donations and focusing instead on what he's playing was correct, I find. Every speedrunner at this event is the same way, they focus on what they're doing and will cheer only if they have time and opportunity, as in, they will react to donations if they get a break from the action in the game, or just need to keep pressing one button.
