Fun fact! With all the sequence breaking done in this run, JC's killswitch never got turned off, and the nuclear missile never got redirected. Thus, at the end, JC is dead, and Vandenburg is a smoldering radioactive crater.

"Non playable plants" Hearing this and remembering how the plants always "cling" to the player made me suddenly understand a very, very old joke from the Malkavian Mod. _I will not MOVE OUT OF ZE WAY_

I've never played this game but this is officially one of my favorite speed runs. 1) The runner looks frustrated and impatient, which makes him seem more human since no other runners ever seem to get frustrated. 2) He looks like he has been doing nothing but playing this game since it came out. 3) He couldn't even be bothered to take off his coat. Probably said "fuck it, let's just do this shit", sat down, banged out the game in an hour, and went the hell home.

Vegan Gains I bought it, but it didn't work with my machine. Back then, this was a pretty common occurrence! :-)

The story is the strongest point of the game. The action is not bad either, but the story made me come back and back again.

This is my all time favorite speedrun. Love the atmosphere and the commentaries. Learned a lot and really enjoy it. Wish I could have donated in real time.

This is one of my favorite runs, partly because it's Deus Ex, but mostly because of all those hilarious UA rage moments

This game blew my mind when I was a kid.

Actually, there are surprisingly few games where you can kill children -in Fallout 3, you can set off a nuke to blast a town to smithereens, but cannot actively kill a child. You can sell them off to slavers, though.

Smilley MLK Just one game prior, Fallout 2, you could slaughter children till your hearts content. You would face in game consequences and condemnation, which made the game more interesting.

You could do so in Fallout 1 too, earning you the "Child Killer" perk and a cumulative penalty on social rolls. I remember getting it when a gang of raiders ambushed me in a town and a stray bullet killed a kid. Fun fact: in the German translation, all kids were replaced by hobos, but killing them off still got you "Child Killer".

This run was....the BOMB.

One of my favorite runs from the marathon. It gets dubbed "Troll%" less than 2 minutes in, and the name fits. Poor UA just keeps getting shafted on the game griefing him, and it's hilarious.

"Hey Gunther! What's up?" "Not much iz going on, my augmentations are grusting once again" "Hell i was just reading this book about Laputan machines and how they..."

Matt Aslin No, I just started watching speed-runs this past month or so. I tried to do the box clip that is used so prominently in the Deus Ex Revolution speedrun and I couldn't even clip through a door/wall out of countless tries, let alone get close... it's pretty mind-blowing how broken some of my favorite games are. Either way I would still love to attend but, I think the next AGDQ will be in/around January. Good job on your speedrunning though. 1hr30 to finish an entire game is hella impressive ESPECIALLY Deus Ex!!

Very interesting run. I would've wanted to see the guy dress up a little like JC Denton though, that would've made it even better. :D

35 minutes and he's already in Paris. I know I'm supposed to be impressed and all but honestly, speed run playing Deus Ex just takes away the entire beauty of the game. I would never try and finish this game within an hour. I want to spend 15-20 hours on completing it.

It was great to see this. Great job UA. I played through it a number of times back when it came out and I still consider it my overall favorite game. The first time I took a lot of time exploring every secret and side quest I could find, as well as backtracking constantly to explore multiple paths. Ending up taking me over 40X longer than this. ;)

How many hours does this game usually take people to finish? I played it once and it felt like 40 hours.

Rifle and mini crossbow can both be obtained in alternate methods by the first level. And if you're clever or experienced, the assault gun and sawed off as well. Toss in a gep gun, pistol, and stealth pistol from carter, you've got most the main early to mid game arsenal.

The current single segment WR is like 10 minutes faster than my PB so I'd have a lot of work to do. Glad you enjoyed the run though. :)

This game took me 20+ hours to even get to Paris. It's amazing just how much of the games side content you can skip by going directly to the main objectives instead of exploring.

Can someone explain how to do the menu glitch to jump high? I watched the video several times and gotten tips on how to do my own speedrun but I still can’t figure out the menu thing. I know he’s opening and closing it three times but I have no idea what he’s pressing or clicking.

Okay I finally got it! You enable the jump aug and you go into game options and hit escape back to the game. You do this a number of times and you can jump high. No clicking or special buttons.

I think my personal best for this game is around 2 hours 40 minutes. I love the first deus ex I have literally played it over 1000 hours.
