Andrew, thanks for posting this, I'm truly honored! Regarding your questions, I'm trying to answer them. - I never really practiced with click, before, but I do sometimes these days. And if I'm doing, I'm using a very slow (30-40bpm) way, but playing normally on the top of that. I was analysing tons of Indian music, when I was young, so I’ve got a massive picture of rhythm quite early and a stable internal clock. I’m not counting, I don’t really play patterns or fixed/planned/orchestrated things. My goal is always being spontaneous and flow as much as possible. And just to feel the music around me. In my had, rhythm has many possibilities to divide. Regarding the sound. I started working in music studios when I was 15, (I’m playing on more than 500 album till now) so I had many many chances to learn how to tune drums, and how to touch it in many many music genre. It was an amazing challenge to tune up drums on a very traditional jazz way on Monday, on extreme metal way on Tuesday and tune it for a major pop album on Wednesday. All different feels, touch, aspect, etc. Regarding the dynamics. Took a while to get the same sound on soft playing as loud playing. Noticed that, it needs more and different muscle work than playing loud, because it’s about breaking back yourself. My goal was to be able to play exactly the same thing soft, what I can play loud. It was difficult… Still working on it sometimes… Anyway, thanks again for sharing my things, thanks to anyone the comments and sorry for my poor English.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums I remember on a drumeo clip i think and actually i think you may have even reacted to it...Gergo talks about when he was growing up he would just piece a drum set together out of stuff from around the house and practice that way...the dedication and talent is very inspiring :)

I saw Gergo many times in Budapest in the mid 2000's with his band European Mantra in a place in Budapest called Gödör Club. This Andrew Rooney guy would have DIED if he saw what Gergö did back then. The whole European Mantra band was out of this world. Walls of sound and majestic playing all around. And all of us in the audience thought.. how is it possible that this guy is not an international star?? Well.. now he is. So happy for Gergö.

Gergo is just… absolutely mind blowing. Literally no words to describe his playing. I’ve heard him do things I never even imagined being possible, and it’s always absolutely musical in every way. An absolute force, and someone who is bringing the art of drumming forward. Incredible.

Best one I've seen on the channel so far. This man is the man. The final boss in drumming.

Yes, He's insane! I have the honor to met with Gergő at one of his clinics in Debrecen, Hungary about a thousand years ago. I was one of the luckiests who was able to steal a signature from him, too. Anyway did you know that the face with a bittersweet smile on it you stick onto your face at 4:04 is also a hungarian man's face? :D

amazing drum solo and performance clip, thanks for posting. As for the sound ....indeed amazing, Gergo shure knows how to tune, but for what we hear there is a guy behind a mixing desk for sure we should give our credits too, a sound guy could make you sound worse but also could make you sound wonderful as is the case with this concert.

His double bass is absolutely out of this world

I can't imagine what ANY drum kit could possibly have done to deserve such a thorough thrashing! 🤣 ...but seriously, this man has to be on the very short list of the world's most astonishing drummers, and your observations, Andrew, are brilliant as well! 🙏

After 7 months in Alpha Centauri, I've been waiting for a follow up reaction to open the portal back to Earth. My children thank you.

I love McLaughin's 'You Know You Know'..It's never played the same way twice as it allows musicians the space and freedom to do (almost) whatever they want..Terrific job from Gergo here, fantastic touch and feel...There's a great version by Jeff Beck with Rhonda Smith(bass) and Johnathan Joseph (drums) live in Tokyo...good one Andrew

His mind is unencumbered by trends and fad in drumming. Ths guy is pure imaginative innovation combined with blistering technique. Individuality is something we would be well rewarded for should we chose to exercise it. Unfortunately, there are so many copy cats playing the same old same old cliché links and grooves. I love that he just has traditional great sounding drums, with the snare up nice and tight. No trendy gear, or approaches, just pure excellence in an approachable context. Brilliant.

love it! personally I think his best record is "Planet Z" by PANZERBALLETT - V. Donati and M. Minnemann play one that record too, so: definitely worth checking 😬

Andrew, I am just a regular drummer from the same city as he. I was working hard to understand and learn as much possible as I can from Dave Weckl and similar level drummers. Then, I sean Gergo as a child literally playing on stage without any boundaries, problems or what so ever... He is just an UFO. Both technically, both musically just a whole another level. Usually people have its own level, and fight for step that over beyond the possibilities, beyond the limits. He has probably some limits but we can not understand that. Those boundaries are over the ordinal people sense.

3:56 you do a great stunned mullet reaction - I thought you were frozen in time!

Obviously you have highlighted a great many drummers.. this is one of the few times I have to go back and watch this about a dozen more times (kind of the same reaction I had to Neil Peart's frankfurt solo , yes that is high praise...)
