I would like to clarify something. I (possibly) unfortunately referred to Greyson as a ‘Kid’ a few times in this video. I meant no disrespect. He is 19 years old at the time of this video. I hope you understand my intention in the moment was to discuss how young, yet mature he is. He’s very young to me! (Insert old man meme) 🤣👌 I feel I should clarify this. As you were…

Greyson said it himself: “There shouldn’t be a ’You’re doing this or that wrong’ or ‘That’s not how it’s been done properly’ as long as the job, i.e. drumming, is done beautifully… If you find a way of holding them sticks in way that make YOUR playing better than that of the others, maybe even better than the ‘standard’, then don’t give af what those others say… just go for it!” I love this guy. No matter what music style he’s playing, it’s always something special both to listen to and watching him perform. Greyson Nekrutman is “The Dude” man!

100%. Brendan Buckley said something profound when I interviewed him. 'There's no right or wrong way to do anything'. People think I as a drum teacher will be dogmatic in my approach. It's the opposite. Student dictates their own path. I just try and keep things coherent, keep them motivated.

I find it amazing how he accidentally clicked his sticks when rolling on the floor tom, but then he adapts it into the solo.

There's a saying I heard years ago about playing music, "If you make a mistake, just repeat the mistake and it becometh jazz."

I am impressed with how spontaneous he feels on the one hand but also how he is still careful to follow stylistically appropriate jazz idoms with this playing. You could almost believe this was an historical recording. I would love to hear him playing bebop.

I was trained by an extreme metal drummer, but I've always been impressed by the list of insane jazz drummers out there. Antonio Sanchez is one of my favorites. Greyson is much younger. can't imagine what he will accomplish.

Greyson is so so impressive in this solo, he puts his heart, his soul, all his long hours and days of hard work, to play the best music. You know what shows how impressive he is? That. Was. Insane. He swings like the greats, and I've rarely heard such an inventive, dynamic (in the musical sense), immaculate drum solo in any genre. Talent + desire + hard work = Greyson Nekrutman. Whew.

Remarkable. Easily the best trad jazz solo I’ve seen in the modern era. Speechless.

I love when something old but new blows our minds

The efficiency of his movements is unreal. Almost no upperbody movement. What an incredible performance! So much respect for all the countless hours of practice and discipline went into this.

A great jazz drummer is one of the most entertaining shows you could ever see & this kid is absolute DYNAMITE. I have no words.

Greyson is terrifying, absolutely terrifying. Insane.

The talent of this kid. There’s an arc of seeing that kinda composed precision where you go from being impressed, to admiration, to just having your face in your hands in a mixture of awe and disbelief. 19 years old.

This guy is set to become a drummer to be reconed with!! Hand speed, smoothness and has a left hand that is amazing. Very enjoyable performance.

i had to watch this twice once staring at greyson and the other for youre reaction, incredible i wish i stuck with drumming havent played in years but seeing greyson inspires me too get back on the kit.

I just finished watching Mr. Nekruman analyze Whiplash and I was floored when he said they were trying way too hard. So when I saw Mr. Rooney blown away on this video, I said, okay, let's see if this kid really has the chops. His solo at the end was impeccable. I am a new fan and look forward to many years of hearing Mr. Nekrutman play.

from blistering jazz chops to now being in two metal bands ... Suicidal Tendancies and now Sepultura .. Greyson is without doubt a multi talented exponent of drumming ... he has the world at his fingertips and he has the capability of being one of the worlds all round greats ... in my mind he is already the greatest young drummer in the world today ... I just saw the film ‘Whiplash’ last night and this tune was featured. It’s about a young guy going to college to try and make it as a top jazz drummer. The teacher is something else, worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

Greyson Nekrutman was put on this earth to play drums. That is all. This type of playing is incomparable in the modern age. I am convinced he is an alien from the future.

I've often heard it said that it's not necessary to have a monster size kit to get a big effect , weeell ,! i didn't need convincing , but thanks for a perfect example .

The more I watch Greyson, the more I believe he's a true anomaly of rare talent. Like many, I've watched Buddy Rich for years, analyzing his rare skills. I honestly believe Greyson is cleaner and in a sense.. better. So impressive and a class act.

I would love to hear Greyson playing with a group of comparable talent... I don't have a problem with using a recorded base track to show off your skills - but it just makes me want to hear what Greyson can do when the dynamics are balanced (everything gets even better).

I am not a drummer, but this man has got me wanting to learn! I love watching Buddy Guy footage and Rush is my favorite band. This was one of the most amazing drumming experiences I have witnessed. He is the future of drumming!

Yeah obviously he's a sick drummer, I won't beat that dead horse. Instead, I'm going to compliment the compression on the drums. Aggressive, but not overly so. Perfectly accentuates his dynamics without flattening them into a pancake.

What really blows me away about Greyson is his limb Independence. To some the term may seem weird but drummers know what I'm talking about. He just seems to have ZERO connection between his hands & feet on each side. Makes his flow seem complicated & yet some how effortless at the same time.

What an awesome trip around the drums. There was a comment that you made about "hands" and the first drummer for me that came to mind was Matt McGuire. He plays a lot of rock but feels at home playing drum and bass / dubstep. He is the musical director now for the Chainsmokers which is an awesome gig for him. Well worth checking out.

Everyone's comparing him to Buddy Rich. But to me, Greyson's style feels more like Joe Morello in his prime, combined with Vinnie, especially in the way he works his way around the tom drums, and elements of the left hand style.

There are a few Buddy-esque phrases in this solo, but not enough to warrant any deep comparison with him in my opinion. I’m not sure Greyson has the chops to earn such a comparison … or the desire to. He’s his own opinion player, and he’s great.

Wow. No doubt this guy is awesome. One major gripe, though. When someone else is playing a solo you don't try to take the center stage. It comes down to maturity and not feeling the need to impress every moment.
