𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐈𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐲 ~ Drg Drsya Viveka ~ Advaita Vedanta

Dṛg-Dṛṣya-Viveka : An Inquiry Into The Nature of The ‘Seer’ and The ‘Seen’, Discrimination between the Real and the Unreal
Attributed to Adi Śankarācarya and Bāratī Tīrtha - Translation by Richard Miller, PhD
The Dṛg-Dṛśya-Viveka contains 46 slokas/verses performing an inquiry into the distinction between the "seer" (Dṛg) and the "seen" (Dṛśya), an overview of samadhi, centering on savikalpa and nirvikalpa, and the reality of Universal Non-Dual Consciousness. Although also attributed to Adi Shankara, the text is most commonly attributed to Bharatī Tīrtha (c. 1350). It is also known as Vakya Suddha, which is attributed to Adi Shankara.

Grateful for these peaceful recordings. My mama was gathered in May 10. We enjoyed listening together as she dozed, toward the end. Thank you.

DRG drsha viveka literally means differentiation of the seer and the seen. It is like the process of neti neti, I am not that, not the body, not the thoughts etc. I believe it must be a staged process, such that initially it is both a teaching in and experience of duality between subject and object. Once that differentiation happens a shift occurs into no dual teachings, but you can’t jump straight there. First you differentiate the seer and the seen. This is my understanding of that teaching. I may be incorrect.
