Dragon 32 - Part 3 of 4

Ойындар

In part 2 I tried some Dragon games and wasn't that impressed. In this episode I try some viewer suggestions, but are they any better?

I never had a Dragon (around that time I was playing with an Acorn Electron) but I like those machines. Chuckie Egg was a favourite, I reached level 25, and that is level 1 with the double ammount of walking birds and that duck flying around. Return of the Beast is very impressive, and holly .... that music!

@@TheDigitalOrphanage hahaha thank you :) The fun thing is I really sucked when it comes to computer games, but in the demo (while you're not playing you see a preview of the first 8 levels. My parents,, sister and friends always asked 'What is level 9, and how does it look like?' After that it was level 17, etc etc. :) Later on I buyed an MSC computer and ofcourse Chuckie Egg, but it is the same story like you told in this video, the timing (to jump) by the elevator is different. I will give the Dragon version a shot with Xroar, Dragon computers are rare in The Netherlands (Most British computers, except for the models from Sinclair). I guessed we missed something. At school we had Philips P2000 computers, and the fact that I don't remember a single game for it, makes it clear enough how 'nice' this system was :)

@@xXTheoLinuxXx great memories, and thanks for sharing them. I think you'll enjoy the Dragon version once you've gotten familiar with it. I'll have to see if we've got a P2000 at the museum. I know we've got the earlier Videopac but I don't recall seeing a P2000.

@@TheDigitalOrphanage it might be a machine which is nice for a museum. Since the Philips brand, it might be a no brainer why Dutch schools were using them. I wish they had the Videopac games for it :) But from a historical point of view it might be a nice system for in a museum. Later on Philips produced machines that were a lot nicer ( I own a Philips NMS 8250, MSX2). And if I told you what I paid for it including joystick and approx 100 floppys, you would believe it.. 15 guilders (somewhere between 3 or 4 English pounds), and no, I'm not gonna sell it for the same price LOL

Sadly the graphics let the Dragon down, otherwise it's a solid machine that was a joy to work on.

Thanks for another great video. It's always good to see old computers getting a new lease of life. I dread to think how many hours I spent playing Chuckie Egg back in the '80s, or as my dad would say "wasted hours". The Buff colour set is awful on The King, but two games that used that mode quite well were Hungry Horace by Melbourne house and Mr Dig by Microdeal.
