I wish I'd been as wise as you but I wasn't. However, when my children were still small I started noticing children of stay-at-home mothers were calmer and more well behaved than the other children. Many years later I had been working out of town, was driving home with the radio on and heard Dr. Laura for the first time. I kept listening periodically when given the opportunity but she reminded me of the benefits to the children of having a full time mother. Now some of those children are married with homes of their own and I'm noticing their marriages are better! There are multi-generational benefits to stay-at-home mothers.

Uh, I am the mom of three grown children. I do regret it. My husband and I divorced because he was an abusive narcissist. During our marriage our kids were psychologically harmed by his “head of the family” obsession. I never developed a career. Now, divorced at fifty, I have to start from scratch on a career with no retirement savings. My kids all wish we divorced ages ago and have to seek counseling because of my ex’s emotional abuse. Please, please PLEASE stop promoting a cookie cutter, one size fits all, lifestyle. It harms women and children. Yes, staying home is great. You know what else is great? Having a real say in your kids’ parenting. Having financial power. Having a job to finance yourself and family with, if your spouse is a loon.

The best marriage advice I got was all about controlling my thoughts.....to never let my mind wander where it shouldn't go. If I see a handsome man, I don't imagine what it would be like to be with him. If someone flirts with me, I don't continue the flirtation. I've learned to just not go there, and have focused on my man instead. I've stuck to that advice (and so has my husband) now for 42 years of marriage. 🙌🏼

@@ntmn8444 Me too. I think the safety and confidence of being married makes a woman more relaxed, and therefore more magnetic/attractive. Ironically, the temptation to stray only rises when you're legally wed. Pray for deliverence from evil. "The enemy prowls around looking for someone to devour...."

I subbed at a high school and used to keep Dr Laura's Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives to share when girls were finished early. I subbed to keep my husband and children first. Dr Laura speaks the truth. In turn, my daughter works 9-2:30pm so she can take and pick up her boys. I am so proud.

Dr.Laura's advice is timeless. I listened to her when my children were little and for Christmas last year bought her book (10 Stupid Thing Women Do) for my 15 year old granddaughter. Truth is truth no matter the era.

How did your granddaughter take to the book? Was it something she dove into right away or was she confused about it, like, "Why are you giving me this, Grandma?" I'm sure she did devour the book, but I am just curious about the initial response upon getting it. I know when I was 15, I did not appreciate certain things til I got older, and looked back, kicking myself for not realizing what opportunities I had with those things that I just shrugged off.

I am so anti daycare. Putting babies in daycare literally makes me hurt inside. I would have eaten a box of pasta every night (and nearly had too) before handing my children over to strangers all day every day! I dont understand where a mothers natural instincts have gone! I had a deadbeat husband who couldn't seem to keep a job and I am forever grateful to my parents and my in-laws for their support which allowed me to be a stay at home mother until both my children were in school full time. At that point I worked part time while they were in school and I was able to bring them to school and pick them up every day.

Its amazing to me that personal responsibility is a topic that needs to be discussed. I grew up in a really bad situation...it sucked...my kids lives did not for several reasons...my wife is awesome. Life is hard sometimes..our kids know that they cannot wallow in difficult circumstances. Fight your ass off no one owes you anything. Children need to know that at times what they do is not good enough ...that they can do better. I poured concrete so i could pay for college...it took me 6 years to finish my undergrad(I now have 2 masters and zero debt). Anything worth having comes from difficulty and struggle.

I listened to Dr. Laura before I was pregnant and when I was pregnant. I was a stay at home mom for 4.5 years and then when my marriage failed I do not date. Her father and I work together to raise our daughter focused on her. We vacation, holiday, birthday and weekend together we just have a hard time living together. Our daughter always knows that we are both here for her and always a phone call away if ever she is at a friends house or one of us are working. We even had opposite work schedules so that she never rode a school bus. He and I get along so much better when we are not living under the same house. Our daughter has told us how thankful she is that we did not use her as a weapon or have a lot of drama for her to have to deal with since we live our lives this way and choose not to date. She never had to deal or be forced to watch mom and dad force another “parent” on her. I have seen it work out ok for very few remarried parents. I know it can happen but it is seems like finding a unicorn in a sea of horses.

Just wanna say AMEN! to Dr. Laura's comment about how if you miss their childhoods they wont care about missing your old age yrs. I know a man whose mother was never around, in/out of jail, when she wasn't locked up she worked all day and spent her nights sexing up random men....so his grandma raised him. Now he looks at his grandma as his mom and he calls his real mom 'michelle'. He ignores her calls & she usually has to beg to get him to even visit her...

I still quote Dr. Laura from her 25 years ago advice. “It’s just not a match.” And “If you can’t agree (with your mate), decide who makes the decisions on the different situations, such as “where do the kids go to school”; “what house do we buy”,etc. My (church) daycare asked me how do we make the school better and I said, “Shut it down and make someone from the family take care of their child.”

What Dr. Laura said about the cure for bullying is what I figured out a long time ago about the role of the bystander. No one can be a bully if they don't have the support, active or passive of the other people in the room, corridor, office etc. One individual will not continue in the face of opposition or even disapproval of the group. Bullies are always cowards, they will rarely continue alone, a strong message from other people around them would put an end to it.

Awwwww Dr Laura. One of the people who still believes children are to be taken care of and taught etc, who still uses the term “shacking up”. If more people listened to her we would have better family situations. I have listened to her forever, mostly because of how she talked about children the first time I listened to her as I have a heart for children. Then there are all the marriage and personal situations. Sometimes she even gets on my nerves, but she is good people. Need many more like her.

@Peter Andrew Nolan excuse me? I am the last person who will cow tow to feminist ideals. I simply said that men are easy… easy to please and easy to understand. Before you pass judgment on comments, you might want to ask the person what she meant.
