Dr. Douglas J. Lisle, Ph.D.is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap available here:
www.amazon.com/dp/1570671974?...
Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.

I can listen to Dr. Lisle forever!! And love the chat on private vs public school education
Always love to hear from Dr. Doug Lisle!!
Private schools do not have to put up with the behavior issues, lack of parent involvement or unmotivated students. Parents tend to be more involved and have expectations of their kids when they are paying for it.

Very true but they sometimes have ‘entitled’ students who are rich spoiled babies, buying fancy things or drugs

@@lizziedripping71True! I'd hate to "stretch" my ability to pay only to have my kids exposed to all that.
For the person who can't lose weight and is doing everything right, the answer might be to build muscle. I'm petite and in order to stay slim I have to work out with weights.
Amazing interview as always! Great questions!!
Yes, please invite Rose to be a guest! ❤
Great show @chef aj
First time I’m not only understanding Dr. Lisle and agreeing with him 🤫 wow what have I been missing 😬🤨😅
That's why I don't show up anywhere unless I'm invited. I want to go somewhere where I am celebrated not tolerated. Got tired of getting attitude everytime I invited myself to my sister's house. The friendship was not being returned. Never a phone call from her or her ever wanting to come back east to visit. I finally got it!

I have a similar problem, one sister lives just 10 mins drive from me but this year I've only had her visit me 3 times. I also have a sister in Australia and she won't answer the phone, she gets her husband to answer so if it's anyone she doesn't want to talk to (me) he will either say she's asleep or has a headache so can't come to the phone. They don't deserve us eh? I've just decided to join a club during the day to meet new people.
🥀👏🥀 The best hour of my day! 🥀👏🥀
Love Dr. Lisle!
Love me some Doug!
57:57 are private schools better? safer? enjoyable? 59:35 Peacock Scale ....want to boast /have $ to waste /display of resources? 1:02:54 are other kids getting an advantage? 1:03:50 class size : does it matter ?
I always love your shows! Have you heard of the Smart BMI calculator? It’s some thing I heard about on another podcast and it takes into consideration a person’s age as well as their height and weight. I wonder if it would be helpful to the lady who wrote in who is 75 and could not lose the last few pounds, even though she is eating a strict whole food plant-based diet, perhaps you could ask one of the doctors about this? It takes into account that studies show increased longevity with a little bit higher weights o the scale.
48:10 trade off for women ...career vs family life
1:07:17 better experience at private school? possible , but one must look closely if that advantage actually exists
Sorry I hit send too fast. I paid for this and never heard more information on how to access the program. Can I have information re a refund or credit for the next one. Thanks - sorry I have tried sending emails to several places and never heard anything back.
Immersion-based high schools where one immerses oneself in a foreign language : that seems to confer an advantage as one achieves fluency in a foreign language.... but perhaps they trade-off is higher than I understand.

Most of the immersion schools I know of are public. I think it's good to learn languages but it's definitely not exclusive to private school.

@@BouncyBrown to gain access to an immersion program , then one might 1) pay for a private school, or ), pay via higher mortgage to live where the public schools provide the option. Price discrimination remains legal in USA , and higher home prices tend to filter out less committed tiger moms/students.

Many thanks to your staff. They resolved the issue and sent me a video of the replay. I just watched it and it was wonderful. Thanks again.
private vs public? past data vs prospective data? Lisle , b 1958 grew up in an more stable CA and America with a more homogeneous culture and expectation of high standards in the public high schools and not just at 3rd level whether UC Berkeley or U VA (where he earned his PhD.) But "woke" America is very different with public schools focussed on non-academic matters e.g. transgenderism. So parents want to get some control of the mal-influences that are affecting teenagers and so they hope private might be an option to allow their children to "find" themselves . ( Private schools dont fix everything --~40% of Brown Univ undergrads are self-declared non -heterosexual --up from 4% say 15 years ago.....and many of those young people with identity crises have graduated expensive private schools.

As a veteran teacher close to retirement, I can assure you that most public schools do NOT have a "woke" agenda, Please research and examine the claims from media outlets who make lots of money off of stoking fear in their listeners. If we think the sky is falling, we will keep listening! It breaks my heart to see the misplaced anger and mistrust that many Americans now have towards public schools.
I wonder if it would be easier for the person to go visit her mother for a couple days instead and stay somewhere else during that time. Might check the box, but limit the nasty treatment and comments that make her feel "less than." Good luck. Tough decision.
Chef AJ, I really enjoy your show, especially when Dr. Lisle is on. However, I'm very suspicious that your strong desire to rid the world of all disagreeable people is an indication that you ARE one of the disagreeable people. Dr. Lisle has mentioned repeatedly that he considers Dr. Goldhamer very disagreeable, yet he has chosen to work with him.

When did I say that? Please provide me with a link and time stamp. I asked him if most problems were caused by disagreeable people and he said yes. Have you ever visited a prison? I volunteered in one. Most of the inmates were not agreeable.
The mother is 75. She may want to see her daughter one last time. Simple.
