WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I guess it's either up to the majority or to the individual to decide whether they are "their people" or not, and it makes more sense for it to be up to the individual. That is what is relevant to their motivations, and it's not practical to get the majority to vote every time we have to decide on it.

And his power has been reduced to logically maximal so he CAN create a rock too heavy to lift.

Right, it's one of those never ending sources of hilarity and frustration for me. Having been raised religious though it honestly did upset me quite a bit that God would help and talk to what felt like everyone but me. It would honestly be pretty nice to have an imaginary friend in my head who could help me through tough times and who would have comforted me the time I lost half a lung from an embolism and MRSA running wild throughout my system. Yet, throughout that incredibly painful and horrifying experience, including almost 6 full weeks I couldn't even have ice chips and got all my nutrition through IV fluids (developed an allergy to the tube feeding goop), and the couple months after the worst parts where I had to learn to walk again it sure would have been nice to have that imaginary friend. I know for a lot of people the whole atheism versus theism thing isn't super personal, but after that experience I had and the distinct pain and dejection I felt at the idea that, if there was a God, I was somehow so unlovable and unworthy as to not ever warrant a single second of soothing or comfort through all of it has made it pretty personal to me. The whole religion doesn't hurt people thing went way out the window for me during those months laying in hospital beds feeling a crushing depression because somehow I wasn't worthy of any outside help while the junkie down the hall had Jesus by his side the whole time. Religion is terribly destructive to those who are most vulnerable in extremely insidious ways.

At 38"00 : I think that what he refers to would be of social dynamics in a context of global collapse. Let's say, ressources shortage, climate disruption resulting in a change of conditions rendering human species unsustainable. Basically, people would get so desperate with famine etc... And without the structures of education (apocalyptic world), they'd resort to religion... Which is "praying of weak" tactic religion already uses. That scenario is disturbing to me, because possible... Oh boy did that series disturb me : the handmaid's tale. Anyways, Christians as a death cult are comfortable with the idea that we run straight to a wall while we attempt to change direction (I'm thinking Secular Humanism, with a hint of "wtf let's do a 180° in how we use our resources, cause shit getting hot!". 38"38 : Aaaaand there it is. It is possible, if the circumstances were dire, for someone who is gay to willingly have heterosexual sex for the purpose of procreation even if they really really don't want to. Also, bisexual people exist......

The tribe that sacrificed children to God was the people of Judea and Israel those were two different kingdoms and back about 700 or 800 BC God demanded according to fragments of the Bible’s found in a temples library indicated that it was considered one of the highest sacrifices to God in fact when one of conquering Jewish generals prayed to God saying that he would sacrifice the first thing that came out of his house when he came home if God helped him win the war and it turned out to be his favorite daughter God did not interfere and accepted the sacrifice at that is in the Old Testament. You’ll have to look it up because it’s only semi-important to me.

Actually the bible supports this notion. Somewhere Jesus says "you will be considered ""least"" in Heaven". Mathew 5:18-19…18 For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 So then, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The argument about gays not being able to have children would be invalid even without modern medical technology. Most ants, bees, wasps, bumblebees, termites and naked mole rats never have biological offspring of their own but help to take care of other offspring. And seen that us humans also live in large societies, I think it makes perfect biological sense if not all of us have biological offspring of our own and just help to run the society and/or raise adopted children. Anyone who thinks Hitler was godless should check out Ian Kershaw's biography of the man. He used religious rhetoric and appeals to a god all the time. Even if he wasn't a Christian (and Richard Carrier has made convincing arguments that he was), he definitely believed in a god. And so did Reinhard Heydrich, based on Robert Gerwarth's biography of him. Speaking of free will, Yahweh didn't seem to have any problem violating the pharaoh's free will in Exodus. And if we couldn't handle the appearance of god, why does the Bible describe a wrestling match between Yahweh and Jacob in Genesis? Not only Jacob managed to handle god's presence but could hold his own against him in a contact sport.

Did this guy just claim that god couldn’t stop all crime because it would be nonstop? God won’t do it because he doesn’t have the time or is it to much trouble? What on earth does he mean by that? It blows my mind how people twist logic and make excuses for god failing to do anything godlike.
