IMO general miura wasn't a cocky bastard like the others throughout the series. He was a general who liked martial arts and finding worthy opponents.

That's why I don't like the plot. Anyone that isn't Chinese is total jerk and evil in the series. The fight scenes are great but the plot is kinda too simple. Just a super martial artists beating bad guys

Fun Fact: the actor who plays the general, didn't have much experience with Martial Arts prior to the movie. He did some Judo I believe as a kid, but not a high level or something. He did wanted though to do as much of the fight scenes himself, without a stunt double and trained for 8 months with Donnie Yen & Sammo Hung for the movie. He actually did most of the fight scenes in the end, they only used a double for the scene, when Ip Man slams him to the ground, to avoid a n injury.

The thing is that Miura doesn't pose much of a threat to Ip Man on his own. It's established early on that Ip Man is the superior martial artist. Sure, Miura gets a few hits in, but that's not the threat. The threat is the very violent and callous Japanese Army. Ip Man has to make a decision - his pride or his life. That's where the dramatic tension comes from.

General Miuras battle prowess was shown early on when he beat Lin to death. General Miura very well would’ve stood a chance against him if he kept a clear head throughout the entire match. What you don’t realize is that the only reason Ip Man won against 10 Black Belts was because of plot armor. They had a lot of opportunities to attack him from behind, but because of plot that didn’t happen. Nothing is established early on in the series, other than the fact that he’s a main character and that plot will always work in his favor.

Miura lost the fight at 2:15. The reason he lost this fight is because the only time he did a lot of damage to Ip man was with the kick follow up to the 2:00 grab-throw. At 2:15 he is either desperate or too impatient and tries to use it again twice. Ip man counters it this time and punishes Miura into submission. Don't try and use the same move twice on Ip man lol

It depends on how you see it. The first one speaks about the supression of the Japanese over the Chinese. The 2nd tackles a ruthless racist who's only goal is to stroke his own ego. The 3rd builds a legacy for Ip Man and shows that at the end, there are things more important than just fighting, as Ip Man begins to care more for his dying wife. The 4th shows us the era in which minorities had to live in the US and the adoption of martial arts implemented into our military training. I honestly love the 1st one but the rest are just as good.
