Great tips - thanks! Bought the Possum gloves - love them! Softy and warm! While I was at it, I bought a pair of Possum socks too, which are also great. I wouldn't use them as hiking socks, but great for wearing as sleeping socks. I could only find a 10-pack of the Showa 281, so I bought a pair of the Showa 282, which you can find as a single pair. I haven't had a chance to try them out yet. Thanks again for the great suggestions - I like your reviewing style.

I've been told possum fur has hollow fibres like a polar bear, hence the warmth. Have a possum beanie but its too warm for most things. Will try the showa's.

Nice. But I second the comment about the new ones out. 282-02 with a cinch cord, I believe.

The 282's work well, but I prefer the versatility of the outer and liner.

Interesting -in my own quest for the ultimate glove experience ive been experimenting with combining 2 different gloves myself - i love hiking in the rain and this combo you put together looks like a winner ! Too bad you cant finger swipe yet with a good glove set up for wet n cold -maybe in a few years they’ll come out with something? Ive decided that for now ill probably just have to cut the tip of the index finger off and just deal with a frosty finger tip until the next wave of swipe-able designs come out - i could imagine ORVIS fly fishing will be the first to have a really great design but even they dont have one yet :/

No need to cut off the finger. You can sew a small circular area of conductive thread into the finger tip. Works great.

Nice review. What size are you using for both gloves? And how does that compare to your usual glove size? I’ve heard the Showas run small.

Great question! My hand from bend in my wrist to the tip of my index finger is just under 8". Showas run a bit on the smaller side. My gloves - Showa size XL. Zpacks size XL.

I purchased the Black Temres 282-02 with the built in insulation and my fingers were numb at low 40's and high 30's Farenheit. It was misting rain and windy when I tried them that time. I can feel the wind blowing through the "breathable" material. I did put a hand warmer inside each glove when the temps were in the lower 30's to upper 20's Farenheit. This still wasn't enough, my fingers were still numb, like I didnt have any gloves at all. I will continue looking for something much warmer. The blue ones with the Possum down gloves must be warmer I'm guessing, I haven't tried them. I wish I could return both pairs of 282-02's that I purchased and get my $40+ back...

Yes, I think the combo of the Possum Down gloves and the 281's is warmer than the 282's alone. Neither the combination of gloves or the 282's will keep my hands warm, especially my fingers, if I'm standing around in the temps you mentioned. I am comfortable while hiking or trail running down into the teens as I mentioned in the description.

Like your videos, how hare are these gloves to get on when there are damp? thanks,,

Hey thanks....appreciate the kind words. Both sets of gloves are easy to take on or off when damp to slightly wet. The possum down gloves also slide in and out of the Temres 281 easily....👍

Just subbed to your channel! I've been looking for a good solution for winter hikes as well--the possum down gloves are great and I used these on my last hike in Shenandoah National Park. I'll have to check out the Showa gloves without the liners, been curious about those ever since I heard Andrew Skurka talk about them, at 1.8 oz that isn't that much heavier than other UL shells from Zpacks, MLD, etc., and for these sorts of conditions, it may be worth the extra weight.

Yea. I like the 281's a lot. I think the Mitts you mentioned may be slightly warmer but these gloves don't wet out like the mitts. I struggle with keeping my fingers warm and these have worked great. I'm toasty while hiking/running down to the teens. Good down to freezing in camp. Plus, I always get a kick out of using items that are not really meant for hiking or backpacking. I might give the Visp mitts a try at some point. I really enjoyed the WINTER video. Watched the recent food video also. You definitely have a nak for editing. Good stuff!

@@TheUltralightMindset Yes, actually I think I meant the mitts, I think Skurka reviewed those, and I was comparing those to UL mitts from Zpacks, MLD, etc., which generally weigh around 1 oz for a pair. I'm guessing these gloves would provide much more warmth than those UL mitts and also more dexterity with trekking poles (and durability). I appreciate the feedback on my videos, I plan doing a lot more in 2021. Your stuff is good as well!

The 282-02 look to be a nice backpacking tailored version of the insulated 282’s. Wish they would do the same for the 281’s because I prefer the flexibility of a separate shell and liner.

Hey guys, Sorry to be so late to the party. Yea, the 282 and the 282-02 are definitely warmer due to the acrylic liner and the draft collar on the -02 seems to be a step in the right direction for added warmth and weather resistance. So....here's my take on it. Personally, I prefer the 281 with a liner glove. Mainly due to the inevitable moisture in the insulation or liner glove, after hours of hiking. I like the flexibility of drying the liner separately and being able to layer, using the liner, the 281, or both. Also, from what i understand the draft collar on the 282-02 is not waterproof, so good for dry snow, but not borderline cold wet snow, or rain. I have not used the -02 so I'm speculating here.

any thought on latex gloves?

Yea. Super light, cheap, and compressable. They work great for trapping heat when your moving, or as a vapor barrier under mitts/gloves. I also like to use them in cool shoulder season rain.

It's an 18 liter running vest pack made by Aonijie. I use it to clean up trash on my trail runs. Works great! I have been very happy with it. I'll add a link to it in the description shortly.

Necessity forced me to come up with something similar. My base is alpaca knit gloves, and I slide Venom Steel Nitrile Cleaning Gloves over them. They're used for automotive and industrial tasks. They're 6 mil thick and 0.5 ounces (15 grams) a pair. Think stronger medical gloves, that resist rips and tears. I keep them in my rain jacket pocket or my tiny med kit. But unlike yours they only cover up to the wrist, but they do the job keeping both my knit gloves and my hands dry and warm.

Yes. We actually use the two layer Venom gloves for work. They are quite a bit tougher than your average disposable nitrile glove for sure. I have hiked with them, but I find the Temres gloves to be far superior in warmth and keeping out heavy rain. Thanks for the info. Sounds like you've got it figured out..👍👍👍👍

@@fosterscot Strange. Mine did have a slight "new from the rubber factory " type of smell when I first opened them, but it quickly went away with use. Now they just smell like a dirty hiker. LOL

I get caught outside at work in the rain sometimes for 4 or 5 hours at a time and have been through 4 or 5 "waterproof" gloves that I had to get rid of. Guess I can try these. Don't like that the back has to be like stuffed into your rain jacket, but I'm tired of searching for waterproof gloves online that don't work, but look better.
