Don't Grade Homework for Correctness! Here's why
Ғылым және технология
Homework is an activity designed to help students learn, but learning is a mistake-making process. Don't penalize students for making mistakes while they practice and learn! In this video, Jayme Dyer explains why grading homework (and other activities that promote learning) for correctness inhibits the learning process, and she talks about what to do instead.
If you're interested in reading more about how grading affects student learning, I recommend reading Joe Feldman's "Grading for Equity" (gradingforequity.org/), which was the original inspiration for this video.

Thank you for breaking this down so clearly! Love it!
I am a new subscriber. You make a good point that learning is a risk based endeavor.
Thank you, this is very interesting. What age are your students? School/University? Also, what do you mean by grade for completion? Do you assess the level of effort on a scale? If so, how?

Community college students. Activities that promote learning are graded 1 or 0, for sufficient completion or not.
It would be great to be one of your students❤️

Aww thank you!
If you follow this BS advice what happens is that students won't even study or try hard on homeworks since there is no incentive to.. then it bites them hard on the exam. BAD ADVICE.
