Evolution and God - Can you believe in both?

Ғылым және технология

Evolution and God are often presented as diametrically opposed, but in this video, YouTooBio's Jayme Dyer chats with BYU Biology Department’s Jamie Jensen about how science and religious faith are different ways of knowing. It is possible to believe in God and accept Evolution!

While Jamie Jensen comes from a Christian faith background, the principles in this video apply beyond Christianity. How you reconcile evidence for evolution with your religious beliefs depends a lot on the specifics of your religion and its faith traditions.

I have a question and I would love for someone to try and answer it for me. If the religion says humans came from Adam and eve but science says humans came from monkey's or (evolution) how can I belive in both?

Great question! To answer it, I suggest that you watch Jamie Jensen's BYU Devotional Address "Faith and Science: Symbiotic Pathways to Truth" - specifically, start watching at 14:37 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnWNsZahiK3SZrQ.html) when Dr. Jensen talks about "The God of the Gaps". Scientific evidence supports the conclusion that humans evolved from primate ancestors - so how do we reconcile that with a Biblical narrative that humans originated with Adam and Eve? Well, is it possible that the Adam and Eve story is a "God of the Gaps" story - a metaphorical narrative meant to answer the question "Where did humans come from?" before we had evolutionary evidence to answer that question. What do you think?

My only query with this school of thought is when did humans receive a soul? If other creatures have a soul what happens to them when they die, are they judged? Did FUCA and LUCA have a soul?

Naively, it seems so, but no, at least not for religions with the concept of a soul. Cardinal Pell's approach to evolution of the soul exposes the conundrum. Did Neanderthals have souls? Lucy? Our common ancestor with the chimp? Dog? First mammal? first vertebrate? Amoebas? There was no first human.

' Evolution ' is Incorporated into God's creation. It's not difficult to understand, if we - true Christians - ask God for discernment in separating the ' enticing ' lies of this world from the pure knowledge that comes from Him.
