Don't feel like working out?

Here's what I do on "slow days" where I don't feel like doing a workout.
My rule of thumb: Do at least 5-10 minutes of the workout UNLESS I'm so exhausted I think it'll make me sick or injured.
However, a more important question I think we should start asking ourselves is WHY we have these "slow days."
If you routinely have long periods where you feel tired, you may want to look into some causes.
How is your diet? Is it balanced? Are there things you can change to get your required nutrients?
Are you getting enough sleep? 7-8 hours at least for the vast majority of people. If you are, how is your sleep quality?
While some may point to mental health issues - and they're certainly a valid cause - our lifestyle may be a contributing cause to that as well.
Everyone should look into optimizing their lifestyle a bit. There's no downside to it.
Sometimes everything is fine, but our work is boring. If you've been stuck on the same routine for a while, try changing it up! What have you wanted to learn? Anything from backflips to tennis can be explored.
Just some thoughts! Hope that helps!

My motto for the last 4 years has been “if i move I win!” Meaning, that if I do any movement at all on the days where I don’t feel like it (go for a walk, stretch, etc) then I won that day. This has helped me stay consistent in exercising/moving daily for the past 4 years. Not every day has to be perfect. Just keep moving. Hope this helps someone!

@@TheNilsbuss hello! I have been reading this thread and I would like to throw my two cents or some options in though probably you may have heard of them. Let me know what you think if you want! :) - is there a food bank near you? Often there are beans, canned foods eg corn. When my parents just immigrated to Canada 15 y ago and had 200$ for food for two adults and a kid, they often used food banks to still kept us healthy. We never bought fast food as that comes out more expensive too. - veggies like lettuce/celery/carrots are relatively cheap in grocery stores and give you the much needed vitamins. - beans are good since they can be bought in bulk and lie there infinitely - from your reply, I got the impression that you may not have enough time to cook -> people would suggest getting a slow cooker on kijiji or meal prepping (pre-cutting everything in bulk) so that you save time on cooking. - if you are lacking time to exercice (which is super beneficial not only to general health but for sleep quality too), pick 2-3 exercices to do that would get your heart rate up and do them for 5 minutes or less eg 15 squats, 15 counter push-ups and you're done. This already will give some results. - rather than pay for therapy, there are resources online for free accessible through google. KZread is also a great resource, especially for things like guided 3-5 minute meditation or mindfulness practice. - there's definitely free-cost, low-time options out there even for those with limited time and motivation. (though it might not be as easy to find and apply them as I wrote here)

CHECK YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AS WELL. A lot of the times when I feel unmotivated to workout, although I've made sure i had proper nutrition and rest, it was usually because I'd been in a depressed rut for a couple of days and it had to take some work to get out of that mental fog. Journalling helps figuring out how I got there and making peace with habits, as well as point out what not to do in the future. There's a ton of other actions you can take to overcome your depressive rut as well, that's just how I usually do it. Point is, don't beat yourself up too hard if you haven't been working out because you've been feeling like shit for a few days.

Throughout my life I’ve struggled with an illness that has kept me in bed for months at a time and when I want to recover I have to get up and start moving and frankly I’ve become accustomed to being comfortable in bed, I don’t want to get up, but what I do that’s never failed me is, I agree to myself that I will get up put my walking shoes on and take one step outside of the house, sometimes that’s all I could do is take one step, I applaud myself for keeping my commitment, but as soon as I’m out there in the fresh air and sunshine and around me I get to enjoy flowers and birds and clouds and pretty soon I wanna be out there and eventually after just doing this every day and I let that be enough but most times the second part of my agreement is I take one more step than I took yesterday and often when I’ve gotten up out of bed after months of being there taking 10 steps is a major challenge and the next day I take 11 anyway and 12 and pretty soon I’m counting in the hundreds,Blessings,

Hey! I’ve been following your YT shorts and found you to a tremendously positive individual. You point out deeper fundamental problems and help supply simple and productive answers. As a professional ultramarthoner, this message resonates with me. Others usually place me in a pedestal that I’m “always motivated” or “just know how to grind it out”. Sure I’m generally motivated, but that’s because I’ve taken years to slowly build a foundation and find my “why’s”. And sure, I can grind it out when needed, but the more important message is to figure out how to provide your body with what it needs to work well. If you’re body is functioning, it’s easy to get out and move! Thanks again for your messages! Peace. Chris.

And because of this man, I will not take it like "OKAY I HAVE TO WORK OUT EVERY DAY" but start slowly and increase with other exercises when I feel I am ready. Hit hard today, I just finished a workout that's as you say 2 secs later, not as intense, i had been plateuring and feeling shit, skipping, but today i got it done, not like the other days but i fucked my triceps up so hard i couldnt do curls and did bulgarian squats until my waist was shaking if i bent my knees, feeling good, happy, this workout made my day. i didnt feel like doing it, but i got it done before bed. im glad. thank you friend.

That sort of grind is the worst kind and it is so demoralizing. Whenever I get a good night's sleep but still wanna go to bed, each piece of work I do compounds with the pain. I don't even wanna sleep in my bed, just stare at the wall, look at my phone and rest. Constant hard work compounds pain. It turns me on, takes me for a hard ride, burns me out and leaves me on the other side. I yell and try to tell it is my friend, and I tear it down and tear it down but then it's born again! Hamza always portrays playing video games and eating junk food without getting good night's sleep as tiring and emotionally depraving, but so is doing hard work especially when you don't feel like it, and I feel he needs to touch on the pain of working hard more. The guy who's burnt out from work is obviously being more admirable than someone burnt out from playing, but he's still burnt out!

I don't like working out because I get sweatier than other people at the gym. If I don't wipe with the towel, water starts dripping out of my forehead and chin whereas other people do these exerting tasks without breaking a sweat. I'm not even overweight and yet I still sweat so profusely.

  • @dieselexhausted

@@DantesInferno96 I understand! I'm by no means overweight - approaching the opposite, actually, but hopefully that will be temporary - and I still sweat more than I feel is reasonable for the amount of exertion. I'm not sure where you're located, but I've lived in The South all my life so I imagine the humidity has a bit to do with mine. I will, however, be going to Idaho at the end of the month, and if I can remember I will report back with my sweat level 😅 Mainly, though, as much as I understand the anxiety or at least discomfort that comes from having a drippy forehead and spots on your gym clothes, try to remember you're not there for anybody but yourself - and they probably don't notice anyway. If they do, only two scenarios are possible: 1) they see it as a natural result of hard work 💪🏽💪🏽 or 2) if they have any negative opinions about a human body cooling itself, that's their personal issue to live and deal with and they likely aren't the kind of person whose favor you should bother trying to gain!
