3 fitness habits I stopped (but you shouldn't*)

Here are some things I thought I needed for fitness at first but didn't really.
All of them can still be handy and wonderful for many people! However, if for some reason you really dislike them or can't do them, you have other options.

@@moniquemannaert3468 hey! Thank you for watching and for offering the kind words. They really mean a lot 🙏 Advice is noted! Though realistically, this will probably not stop soon. It's just how I prefer to communicate (and listen too!) I totally understand it's not for everyone. However, I can definitely try to do or show more interesting things while I'm speaking. I prefer to do this anyway. Especially during Shorts, I like relevant things happening while the audio is playing. It just seems more impactful that way and better delivers the point. Maybe that'll keep my hands busy instead! Or at least out of frame. Thanks again for your thoughts and have a wonderful day!

Also about the cardio, people often forget that dancing is cardio! It doesnt have to be completely exercise related, you can just dance to ur favorite songs and get your heart rate up that way! It could (should, in my opinion) be fun !

I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for your hybrid routine! I've been working out consistently since November!! My longest streak ever. And I'm actually starting to enjoy it a little bit. One of the things that has really helped with that is that it's just 2 exercises each time (I work out 3 days a week) and I can do them without needing to change my clothes. It sounds silly but that has been a major obstacle in the past. The bar to getting started for me has to be non existent. And yes, I'm still at the wall push-up progression, but I've learned to be ok with that. ❤

As a child, I had to try on clothes and go give my mom a fashion show in the store. Because of this, I really dislike having to change my clothes multiple times a day. Many times, I wake up and put on my workout clothes automatically because of this. But when I have to work out after work, it seemed to be a transition that changed my mindset to leave work behind. So no, it's not weird to feel one of the biggest hurdles is having to change your clothes; I am right there with you.

I dislike jogging too😂, I'd rather walk for maany hours than jog for 1 hahaha. After 10 years of constantly doing basketball I quit. Despite training, I felt pain, joints hurt, my back and neck hurt and it all felt draining. I realised that was probably because of the way our coaches made us train. They weren't neccessarily bad coaches, those exercises just weren't suited for my body. Tons of cardio that did make me look fit, but I always felt so drained and exhausted. Many people think that you should go hard in your workouts until you're in big pain, but your routine reminded me that that's not really neccessary. Muscle "pain" is always welcomed, but once you feel discomfort and pain from joints, that's not good and many people just push through it thinking it will make them stronger and refuse to listen to their body. I currently have some weight to lose, and joints to fix, and I just want to feel good. I had my looksmax era but felt terrible, now I'm comfortable in my body and if I just felt good, I'd be more than grateful. Your routine is big help with that!

I work out when and where I can fit it in. As long as I work out at least 3x per week, I consider it a successful week. With this more casual/forgiving approach, I find that I actually end up working more frequently than when I tried to work out at set times and days. Waking up early especially hurt more than helped since I'd often be tired and decide to skip because I knew that rest was just as important as working out. Now, I prioritize sleep, and fit work outs into down time in my day. I haven't run or jogged in years. Calisthenics and body weight exercises work just fine for cardio/conditioning. Unless you're actually training to be able to run long distances, running is not necessary. I own exactly three weights (two 30 lb dumbbells and a 30 lb kettlebell). I could do almost everything I typically do with just the dumbbells, but i do enjoy kettlebell routines occasionally. I used to won 20 lb dumbbells but sold them and upped to 30s a few months ago. I'll do the same when I decide 30s aren't doing it for me anymore. I work out in basic clothes, a shirt and shorts. And I'm in better shape now than I was in the military, by a wide margin.

I'm getting more into the idea of getting super strong, in which case I might end up getting a gym membership since free weights are prohibitively expensive. But honestly, that's a luxury, not a fitness need. I can currently lift my own bodyweight without much strain, which is good enough for me.

Thank you so much for the first one. I'm so sick and tired of people who act like you should "just" wake up and "just" go to bed early. That's not how it works for everybody. And they claim you can 'train' it only for all my hard work to be destroyed by one of my chronic migraines which have me lay in bed all day and completely ruin the routine. Then I start from zero again. Following my natural routine has me lose sleep the least consistently, but doesn't fit what people "find socially acceptable". I wished more people would be accepting of the fact sleep is also a spectrum and you cannot always force it.

Sleep is perhaps the most important pillar of health, which might explain why after 3.8 billion years of evolution, it hasn't been selected out, and has instead deemed it so important that it mandates a third of our lives to it, despite us being in a more vulnerable state to predators during this phase of our existence. Without proper sleep, the processes involving nutrition and exercise both become less efficient.

Running used to be my cardio of choice, but I kind of got burned out on it. I let myself get out of the running shape that I had sustained for many years, and now in addition to the burn out, I'm also demotivated by the knowledge of how far and fast I used to go, and how far from that level I feel now. Nowadays I still run occasionally, but I also added biking, elliptical, and walking to get some more variety in my cardio activities. I wear a Fitbit and I've shifted from having a step goal to having a calorie burn goal That way I don't feel as bad if I "miss out" on a bunch of steps because I rode the bike instead of running. Who knows how accurate the Fitbit is at tracking my true calorie burn, but I like to believe that if it is off the mark, it is at least somewhat consistent in how off the mark it is. That way I can still use the data to track if my overall effort is at a similar level from day to day.

Preferences for waking up early or later are significantly determined by genetics and age, and the benefits of being a morning-type are largely explained by society being much more catered towards early risers. They can easily get to live in accordance with their circadian preference, evening types very often have to live contrary to theirs, which leads to increased prevalence of sleep disturbances and it's many consequences.

I stopped jogging and started walking instead but i went back to jogging like 4-5 months ago and i was shown how out of shape i had become. I feel so much better after jogging. I jog about 2 miles. For me i would comsoder it necessary to feel very strong in my lungs and breathing. I camt speak for anyone else

Hi Hampton, I'm having an issue where my humerus feels as if it may be popping out (not actually *popping out,* but theres a pressure where it feels as if it is trying to move outwards/forwards) while I'm doing a backwards prayer (hands against eachother flat, behind back, arm posture is like that of a triangle with sides of hands pressed against mid/midupper spine). My chiropractor says my humerus *isnt* actually popping out, but it is a small concern of mine as it's localized in my right shoulder, whereas my left feels fine. I used to have a weaker right shoulder than left back before I began exercising and it would sometimes pop out ^^; I'm slowly building up my flexibility, this is the next variant for me personally and is in my post-workout routine for static stretching. I'd like to do it but as stated, I'm concerned as to whether I might not be ready for it or perhaps if I'm having an issue with a rotator cuff or maybe muscle imbalance and need to work something separately? Theres no pain but there is a suggestion of it, it feels like if I extended further or moved wrong in the position it would start to hurt immediately (I have not tested such). Not sure if I should ask you but youre knowledgeable and tend to reply to viewers so I was hoping you would have advice :)

I know you're not asking me 😏 but I really believe you should listen to your body. If it's telling you you're on the verge of pain, it's probably right, and it'll be worth continuing to build up using easier variations. The only exception I can think of is if your nervous system is remembering that you were injured before and it's continuing to try and protect you even if it's not necessary anymore. In that case you might be able to work through it emotionally, so that your body doesn't feel afraid when it doesn't need to.

Does heavy lifting count as cardio? I was under the impression that cardio refers to aerobic exercise, so heavy weights and sprints shouldn't count...right?

The thing, i think, with the waking up early is, yes, if you wake up early you may have more day, more sun, more time to do things that are pretty much only in the day (like grocery shopping lol), but the actual key is to be WELL RESTED. It wont do nothing, and it would be even worse for you, if you keep going to sleep at 3 am and wake up at 7 am. To wake up early, you also need to go to sleep early so you can get the hours YOU need. Another thing ive found out with the "sleep" thing, its the misunderstanding that we, as humans, need 8 hours of sleep to be well rested. 8 is good, it could work for some, but not for ALL. I think youre meant to try and see how many hours makes you actually feel well rested. Ive found that people with CPTSD or other mentally debilitating disorders, need, at least, 10 hours of sleep. Of course again, not ALL. But its a pattern ive noticed in myself and in other ppl with debilitating mental disorders. When the brain is working a lot, it adds to the need of rest. When i sleep 10 hs, i feel at my best. I wake up in a good mood, im not tired at all through the day, i get to do all the things i wanted to do. At the beggining it was kinda a boomer because i was in the mindset of "ahh, but sleeping 10 hs would leave me with almost no time to do things!" but, guess what? What makes me unable to do things, is to not rest properly. I may have "less hours" through the day, but i am actually well rested to do the things i have to do anyways. TL;DR: its not waking up early (or yes! if you want to), but to be well rested.

Yes i always feel better when I get up early but also get enough sleep. But also if your hormones are unbalanced and also dont eat right or eat crap..nithing will help anyway. Especially once you get older most of us truly have to eat clean, pure and right for your body as we're all different. Aldo warnings if you do any lifestyle..keto, carnivore or ecen vegan...with even normal diets youll miss out on many things especially potassium, magnesium etc...supplement or youll feel terribhe no matter what you do. I supplement with potassium as i xant eat ten bananas or potatoes daily. Get blood work done if need be an analyze it yourself to see whats low. I recommend chris masterjohn if you want it quicker. Also i take organs in vitamin form, plus bone, thyroid and n.a.c. b6 so far and feel better in a million ways on this. Clean suppllements. N.a.c is vital to me with formerly fibro and chrinic pain, mthfr.
