Nobody talks about what an incredible singer Neil Finn was/is.

I was only 7 years old in 1987 but I remember hearing these kinds of songs in the supermarket shopping with mom, driving around in the family station wagon, or on MTV. A great time and great memories.

Love is the bridge

This is a beautiful, haunting song. Neil Finn did an act of creative genius with this. The lyrics are just ambiguous enough not to make sense across an entire verse, but each phrase holds its own meaning which touches something universal in people. I heard an interview with Neil Finn talking about the lyrics and he said that even the title holds two meanings, as in "Don't Dream It's Over" vs. "Don't Dream, It's Over." Simply Inserting that one comma changes the meaning entirely.

Yes, but adding the comma is inconsistent with the hopeful message of the other lyrics. Ie road is never over, won't let them build a wall, can't let them win.

A deeply lovely song. I always thought he sang, "Hey now, hey now...in a world gone carzy!" and that was good mis-heard lyrics. In my cover band, we sang it world gone crazy.

So I'm 100% convinced his singing is live, sounds nothing like record. But suspicious the instrumentals sounds exactly like record, I don't think they were playing any instruments

He's singing live, flawlessly, but had to mime the instruments. That's why he gives that look when he "plays" the piano during the organ part.

That’s most tv performances on music shows They either have the singer sing live and the instruments are mimed or everyone including the singer mimes so they can advertise the actual recording

HATE when artists change the song’s cadence from the original.
