Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over Live (HQ)

Музыка

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over. A very emotional last song from their farewell tour. So sad, Paul Hester is in tears. One of the best songs ever written. Thought I'd upload a decent quality version because the other videos on here don't do the song or the performance justice. Go and buy the DVD folks, you won't regret it! Recorded November 24th 1996

I’ve got friends who finished high school and flew to Sydney for this concert straight after graduation, they were such die hard fans that they were in the first few rows and you can see them in various songs in this concert as the camera pans to the audience, immortalised in video, and forever young. After 27 years sometimes you just go through life with questions, and memories…

In case anyone was wondering, this concert was on November 24th, 1996, called the "Farewell to the World". This was the last song they played, which is why the drummer, Paul Hester, was a little tearful at 2:53. In 2005, Paul committed suicide from depression - Crowded House went on to start the band back up in 2006. So this was Paul's last song he ever played with them.. RIP.

This song was popular when I was a teenage girl vacationing in Florida with my parents. I fell hardcore for a local boy. Surfer... Shoulder length sun bleached hair, deep sun tanned skin tinged with a hint of red, lips that tasted like Carmex and skin that had the most intoxicating scent of salt water and Coppertone sun tan oil. It was very much like every coming of age movie that had ever been filmed on the beach. It was also the hardest "goodbye" of my life at the time. We spent 10 fun filled, magical days just hanging out at the arcades playing pinball, swimming in the ocean, floating for what seemed like hours on his surf board and stealing kisses whenever we wanted. I can still close my eyes and smell the ocean, feel the heat of the afternoon sun on my skin, hear the intensely loud sounds of people laughing and carrying on without a care in the world. Then just like that, it ended as quickly as it had begun. I can picture that goodbye as if it happened just yesterday. I could feel the breeze on my face as I closed my eyes and he kissed my forehead, my cheeks, my lips. My parents, so understanding and patient, sat waiting in our car in the hotel parking lot. I only looked back once after I walked away from him. I left him standing with tears in his eyes on that beach. My own tears fell as I stopped at the top of the wooden staircase that gave access to the beach, turned that one last time and waved goodbye. As my parents drove us away from the beach over that beautiful bridge that leads to and from Daytona, I knew I would never see him again. For me, this song is a sweet reminder of how innocent and equally brutal teenage crushes can be. But it IS a wonderful memory of young love found and lost. I can only hope that if he ever reminisces about that summer, he smiles and thinks of me fondly.

A very emotional performance from the band and brilliant lead vocals from Neil as always. Each time Paul the drummer cries it gets me deep down, especially as he took his own life a few years later and he had two young daughters. I can't begin to imagine what losing a dad as a kid would feel like. Such a troubled soul, suffered with depression for many years but his fans loved him to pieces and his legacy lives on. We still love you Paul. RIP brother! ❤ Edit: wow didn't expect so many likes for this comment. Thanks guys. Hessie will always be in his fan's hearts and I know he's watching over his family everyday ❤ this live performance always moves me xx

It was toward then end of Crowded House first live American tour. This tune was climbing the music charts in the USA at the time. When Crowded House performed this tune the place went wild. EVERYONE knew the lyrics and the sing-along was AMAZING!! Just like then, the spirit of this tune lives on STRONG today! Thank you Neil Finn for introducing the World to your musical brilliance!

I've got chronic depression. I lived the best of life when this song was released, the year after I started to have episodes. Melancholia and nostalgia in a deep sense. This is what this wonderful song brings. The time I was really alive. I believed my life would be full of achievements. I sense this in the song, the sounds. Now I can function, work and earn a living. But things were never the same. Today I slept all day cause I had not to go working. I found no reason to stand and live my day as it happens every weekend. I am beat. The dream is over after fighting decades. 💔 But the song refreshes my soul. It is something notably amazing. The way it touches within is pure magic. 🙂

  • @edcool77

Hello guy, regarding comments; I meant "a great pop song", because at the time this type of music was considered so. maybe pop a few years ago was of such quality that today it is not generally recognized in this way. "Alternative Rock" is rawer, style is associated with more powerful voice distorted guitars, and rather "noise" in some cases. However, there are several songs from the same group who go by that line, but do not think "don`t dream it`s over" is the example in this case. Regards!

+edgardo gregorini Today pretty much anything that is guitar based or has the traditional rock four piece but isn't rock in the classic sense is called Alternative or Indie. However, this is pop at it's best. I will always think of the Smiths as a pop band, because at the time they were light years ahead of contemporary "rock."

I keep coming back to this video again, over and over... there will be a gap and I'll remember and come back and it's the same set of emotions each and every time. Put simply, this is one of the greatest songs ever written. Lyrically. Musically. Emotionally. While we are all mortal people, and we cannot last forever, some things are too beautiful to not. This song is one of those things... Don't dream, it's over... don't dream it's over... two ways to hear the same words, meaning two entirely different things. What I love in particular about this video is that when the song ends, they partially open it up, get the crowd singing it, and then end it again. You can feel the energy pass from the band to the crowd... It's as if Neil and Crowded House are "giving" this song to the world. It is an acknowledgment that they know they won't be here forever... but that the powerful, sublime song will live forever.

There is freedom within There is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup There's a battle ahead Many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road While you're travelling with me … Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win … Now I'm towing my car There's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion But there's no proof In the paper today Tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the TV page … Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win … Now I'm walking again To the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead Barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and release … Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us You know they won't win … Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now) Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Don't let them win (They come, they come) Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now), yeah Hey now, hey now

Wow, this brings back so many wonderful memories, and also some sadness. I wish I could go back in time and tell my friend David (who unexpectedly passed away) that he made the world a better place. He loved this song.

I just love that moment at 4:30 when everyone is ready for Neil to signal the last chord......and he can't let the song go, he thinks it over ....and just goes one last time. The band are not expecting it. Hester goes with it first, then Mark adds some keys. Nick lets it go and removes his bass before Neil and Paul share that final send-off. It's poetry.

I lost my wonderful younger brother to suicide 21 years ago. Still can't get over it. He was such an intelligent wonderful human being. I don't talk much about him but think of him every day.

@@kayluland887 this is so sad seeing this video because yesterday Dec 19 was a year ago my future son in law did the same thing ... He left behind his Twin daughters who are four. My daughter their mom has spiraled out of control because of this prayers to her and that we all find healing i I think has been and was the hardest thing that ever happened to our family many blessings and much love to families and friends of surviving this awful tragedy suicide isn't the answer ask for help ... I survive a od myself 27 yrs myself I can't imagine missing out being a grandmother. Suicide affects EVERYONE ... Losing Kyle has really taken a toll on me as well... RIP Kyle we miss you. Wish you could have seen how much we miss you just know you we all loved you and cared .. Don't ever give up reach out for help people do care ...
