I've heard interviewers say that "Felder was no Glenn Frey or Don Henley" and I say not very many people can match Don Felder's playing..the speed(when needed), the emotion, the playing for whatever music he is involved with, and not trying to grab the spotlight...a true artist.

No he wasn't the nuts and bolts of the Eagles.. how absurd. He was a talented, incredible guitar player. But what made the Eagles was the song writing that's all that mattered, and it was Don Henley and Glenn. Without the songs they were nothing. Even Hotel California was a fragment brought in by Felder... Henley crafted a riff into a song, including writing the lyrics in the arc of that amazing album.

@@billmers3219 I have no doubt that he absolutely hates Don Felder still owning part of the Eagles, lol. But, Felder was also the CFO of Eagles, Inc. and Henley (and maybe Frey too) illegally fired him as both CFO and took away his partnership. That was a big no no on their part, so Felder sued them and won in court. It sounds like at the end, there was a lot of tension between Henley, Frey, and Felder. I think they all had had enough of each other. But, Felder did write the music and guitar solos (including Walsh's solo) for the song "Hotel California," so no denying the guys talent. Hell, everyone in that band was talented!

  • @tomsutton1868

@@JokersWild70 they absolutely were all talented! But credit where credit is due, Felder may have brought guitar solos and riffs to the ground for certain songs, but not once did he have any completed lyrics. That was where Henley and Fry both shone. Felder absolutely deserves to be recognised for his inputs, but he also considered himself a song writer. That, unfortunately, he was not.

  • @jeromyw8075

@@JokersWild70 Felder didn't win in court. They settled out of court. Felder was pretty damn silly for thinking he deserved equal pay as Henley and Frey though. The guy only has about 10 writing credits to his name under the Eagles and a single lead vocal credit. That's certainly not worth equal pay with the two main songwriters and singers.

Advice to all members of any band: Don't be lazy. Write songs. Keep writing, even if they suck at first. You will get better. If you act like a passive session man, in time or at the next major fight, you will be replaced. Write full songs, not just fragments and then 10 other guys will share co-writer credit. The Eagles was that rare band in which the drummer wrote a lot of their best songs as well as sang them.

Well...it IS Stern, I've NEVER understood how he's considered a great interviewer. I saw a FANTASTIC interview with Roger Waters years ago, where he dropped his ego and just let everything go from inside. He admitted that he wished he could go back and grab his thirty some year old self "...by the scruff of the neck and shake him and say 'GET OVER YOURSELF! YOU'VE GOT A GREAT THING HERE!'" regarding relations with Floyd. Maybe a year later a friend had me watch Roger do a Stern interview, and Stern kept steering it to negative points of view with his former bandmates... Scratched my head & thought, well, I don't ever have to watch him again" LOL!

The show Don references is most likely the June 6th, 1975 show at Arrowhead Stadium. According to Wiki and Setlist, the Eagles DID open for the Stones. Rufus and The Gap Band also performed. The Stones were touring with Made In The Shade. In 76 the Stones only toured Europe.

I just seen Don Felder a couple months ago in concert in Effingham Illinois and he did a hell of a job! I have watched all interviews that you can find plus the documentary about the Eagles and that comment that Glenn Frey made about him with all his talents he's just not a singer is a bunch of bull crap! If nobody has ever listen to the song visions you should give it a listen it is an ass kicking song and for Glenn Frey to make that comment about he just can't sing is so ridiculous! I just think that Glenn Frey and Don Henley wanted to be the main voices in The Eagles they shoved everybody else out
