Body ethereal is "downstream" from defense, so it don't help against getting harassed down. The same is the case for mirror image. Only vine shield, astral shield and and awe really helps against getting harassed. After having a closer look at one of my heavy thugs with repel in a game, I am not even sure that repel helps against getting harassed.

One important thing you didn't mention when taking about weapons to counter SCs in the end of the video is the weapons that deals lots of extra damage against specific types of units. Basically they are: - Holy Scourge: 3x damage vs demons and undead, 2 attacks at attack 5 and 6 damage, very good at killing the many undead and demon SC and thugs in the game and reasonably cheep at 10 F gems, but 2 hands and -2 defense can make it a bit harder to have you anti-SC survive the battle. - Flambeau: Also 3x damage vs demons and undead, 15 ap damage at +4 attack, but only 1 attack. Generally not as good as the Holy Scourge as it tend to kill slower and costs 15 F gems, but it can be better if your anti-SC has low strength and relies on defense for survival (it has +2 defense) - Herald Lance: Also 3x damage vs demons and undead. At only 6 damage and only 1 attack (and only +1 attack and +1 defense) it is the least effective at killing demons and undead, but it is forged with 10 astral gems, and is one handed so it can be used with a shield. - Deamon Bane: 2x damage vs demons. 2-handed, 15 damage, +5 attack and +2 defense, one attack. Not the fastest way of killing a demon SC, but very cheep costing only 5 water gems to forge (and comes with +15 fire resist and +5 hp) - Moon blade: 2x damage vs magic beings, 13 damage, +4 attack and +5 defense, 2-handed, one attack. Very effective for killing golems thugs/SC and other magic beings used as thugs/SC. Also very cheep as it only cost 5 astral gems. - Smasher: A 1-handed hammer that deals 20 armor negating damage every it hits an inanimate being, quite good at killing golems and inanimate pretenders. The existence of those weapons means that an SC that is not undead, not a demon, not a magic being and is not inanimate, is a lot harder to counter with an anti-SC

One of the most common consequences of this is that having access to Holy Scourge makes a massive difference in your ability to deal with the Dai Oni from EA Yomi.

This layer of protection thing has always confused me. 1) What the heck is "Protective Force?" It is on the Flying Shield spell (air/earth crosspath), and I think on the Dancing Shield. So what does it do? The blurb seems to indicate it "blocks every other attack." But then it says "Protective Force 20." So is it negating attacks? Or is it damage reduction like Temper Flesh? And then how does that stack with other things? If it is blocking attacks, how does that stack with things like MIrror Image/Glamour or Body Ethereal? If it is damage reduction, how does that stack with Temper Flesh? Is there just one kind of check in the combat resolution for an attack? Highest avoidance value of things like Mirror Image/Body Etherial? Highest value of damage reduction? 2) How do things like Body Ethereal, Luck, Mirror Image/Glamour stack together? This all comes from my trying to get the most out of LA Man. They have a summonable undead assassin, the Bean Sidhe. As far as I know it is the only unit in the game with both Glamour and Etherealness. I tried thugging them with not so good results, so I assume it is a one or the other thing. But what happens with Luck? Say you have a Mistletoe Garland on that Bean Sidhe. Do the checks go through Etherealness and whatnot, then if an actual hit is scored, Luck kicks in to avoid death if the attack would have finished the Bean Sidhe? Incidentally if anyone has any ideas on how to kit those things for thugging, I'd like to hear just out of curiousity. And I also wonder if Etherealness lets you assasinate through Castle Walls during a siege. I could fire up a test game, but I don't know how to do all the things you are doing in this with the super wish and whatnot. Take me a while to play up to that to check. Have to say the Golems have always been the most effective thugs for me. They are immune to a lot of stuff due to being inanimate. Lot easier to just add resist items as you need it, to worrying about Horror Marks and Soul Slay. (incidentally the Colossal Fetish from Machaka is very interesting for the same reason. Plus I think you can empower him in blood and laugh at being Horror Marked.) Also I guess it is a kind of crossover thing, but I have also had some luck with using a lot of "puny thugs" with minimal gear instead of one with more gear. They don't operate solo, but as like a commando team or something. You can give two Frost Brands to MA Man's Lord Wardens for 6 gems apiece. Send three of those with a Mother of Avalon to bless them and cast some buff or another, and they do pretty well against the lower levels of PD. Not against Knights or something, but typical infantry, even heavy it works. You could do the same with those Black Servants I think. Or send in like 3 or 4 Sleepers for the cost of one Lich. (plus Nature Gems seem easier to get than Death for most nations). One thing about those Sleepers they knock the snot out of things with those javelins. Plus they are magic, and they aren't going to run out of them (they get like 30 of them for a given fight).

undead thugs tend to die to death mages pretty fast so beware who you are raiding

Bakemono sorcerers with unaging peak, sc or heavy thug? Would you focus on prot or summoner ability?

well they are pretty versatile. They can definitely be heavy thugs or light SCs with a ton of fatigue gear -> pheonix pyre if they have been twice borned. That ends up getting countered by enslave and some other stuff though. Summoner is safe, but they are pretty expensive for that. Also you normally twice born (almost all) your bakemono sorcerers and turn them into wight mages, so unaging isnt as important.

Say, what are those massive commander your Ys nation was using? I saw some Snake person named spittle, a decomposing Chimera (wormfeast), some sort of death titans (askanie among those). Where did you get those and how?

The come from a spell called tartarian gate. About 10% are commanders and the rest require gift of reason if you want to commander them. Further - lots of them are feebleminded!

Does a totem shield(which curses attackers) synergize with Fear or Awe? In theory the Curse would make enemies more likely to fail thir morale check, right?

Curse dramatically inreases your chance for afflictions when taking damage. Doesnt effect fear.

It just means that the affected monster will be about ten years older than it otherwise might be.

It means that they are 10 years older than normal at the start of the game, thus 10 years closer to old age debuff and dying.

@@Lancelot2000Lps There are some racial norms for each faction - how old they are when they are recruited, when they get the old age debuff, and when they are likely to die. The mages of Man start 10 years above what is normal for the human race.

It would depend, they are pretty killy with 2 reasonably high damage moderate attack score attacks. maybe about few of them in a province when mixed with PD would do ok. *Edit* I thought you said anti thug. Vs SCs those guys arent strong enough. Raskshasa warriors or the moon blade guys are probably better bets. Or just summon air elementals.

Yeah you can boost your level 1 but only 1 level by giving an extra gem. and you cant put more gems in a spell than you have magic levels in that path - so if the spell takes 4 death gems and requires you to be death 4, there is no way a death 3 can cast it. @@nategrover3040
