Some of the twiceborn information in this video is obsolete due to a recent patch. Check out my Vaettiheim national overview video for a good portion of that updated information, as well as interesting mechanics that now make transformation and twiceborn relevant to each other in certain situations.

I have one question - can you trigger twiceborn by drowning your mages? Or is it still not a thing? EDIT: Nevermind, tested it myself - yes now drowning triggers Twiceborn.
Worth mentioning a method for killing your twiceborns affliction-free and (sometimes) quickly: If you have an UW lab close by, give the mage a ring of water breathing, move to the lab, and remove the RoWB. The mage will die but not pick up any afflictions, and less risk of diplomatic tension than throwing your mages at a neutral player's provinces. And of course if they have Air or Astral, you can simply TP them into water.

water ring is a neat trick. Tho it does requre you to have an UW lab. I suppose some undead nations might have that but I doubt it's going to be much of a priority?

another good transformation use: get rid of homesickness, which is often an issue for naiad or similiar summons(shinunation line)

Transforming into a bug also makes you mindless so you'll never rout, so there's that

Are you sure sacred mages retain their sacredness? I thought only priests would do that, due to their magic paths?

Sacred mages do not retain being sacred through transformation, thanks for the correction. I neglected to test non-priests.

Oceania just has many mages with two forms and a negative path boost so that the water form has more water paths and the land form more air or earth paths, if you transform them (or use any other way to change the chassi) then they get their full paths unlocked (it's probably to not get a cheap empowerment in one form and use the higher path in the other, but considering how the game is build, it could only be either negative or positive path boosts and you'd have the cheaper empowering in both forms if it was a positive path boost, btw I'm not completely sure, but I think that trinity gods also have a negative path boost, might want to use a cheese with transformation of twiceborn to get 3 full path Grey Ones or something, in the case of the Grey One you'd obviously have to use twiceborn as only one gets nature and all get death)

I suspect the affliction heal from twiceborn works like it does for immortals when they respawn.

You know what's really great about Vaettiheim? They have not overly expensive nature 1 death 1 holy 1 Vaetti Gygja, slap a Tartar-ian bless on them (Recuperation + Reforming Flesh) and you have a very fun game, especially with luck 3, both transformation and twiceborn give afflictions that the due to being holy sacred units will just heal and lategame you still have a tartaian bless and ok death access to climb high enough even if you didn't have to take a death 6 pretender for the bless
25:20 I have to disagree, when playing around with it, I have noticed that the sacred indies that have no priest level loose the sacred tag when changing chassi, only those with actual priest levels seem to keep being sacred
What happens when a Capricorn casts transformation on land? Do they still get the guaranteed path boost?

I feel like a brainlet given that this didn't occur to me even once to test. I have a test game with a huge pile of caps so I'll check it out real quick. EDIT: Yes! Just cast it ten times, got 8 with 8 paths, a monster boar with 9 paths, and a freak lord with 7 paths(it lost a path in N but gained one in W? I think this also confirms my suspicion that mindless transformations can result in minor path loss). Probably a better place to cast the spell.

@@attica6521 I think this may be because in the mod inspector the Capricorn actually has a negative path boost in both of it's forms, so It may be that when it is transformed it just loses the negative path boost on it's chassis instead of gaining paths. EDIT: If this is the case then in the water they should gain 1 E and on land they should gain one W.

Thanks for the insight! That matches perfectly with all of my test games, earth gain in water and water gain in land. I'd say I don't know how I missed the consistency in gaining earth paths after transforming a hundred caps but I know exactly how, was in a drooling daze casting TF over and over on ten nations.

I can confirm, this is why the capricorn is one of the best mage to transform.
Very interesting information. I wonder if the initial level of the mage casting it has an effect on the chance to gain magic paths or increase risk of death? Does the luck bless increase the odds of sacred mages surviving the reanimation? Also does the affliction resistance bless reduce the chance of gaining one upon transformation? I suppose this would only be done on sacreds. And if you apply the shroud of the battlesaint before you transform a non sacred will they be able to gain a boost to resisting afflictions with the affliction resistance bless? And on top of that. Does the shroud get destroyed in the process? (it does say it's unremoveable) Might be a way to get a shroud back? Likewise with the wound fend amulet. And elixir of life. Also why would you want to transform the hydra? It's a frikken hydra! Just use it as a monster. That mage just got upgraded. Slap a stone bird in one of it's misc slots and you got 10 attacks per round on a regenerating monster that can't be surrounded well. Astral serpent would work as well. Add on a ring of regeration for extra healin. Or heart of quickness if you really want more killing power. Dancing shield would probably be a useful alternative for staying alive too. Alternatives include box of monsters for fun, horror harmonica, mercury barrel for Agartha, carcator the pocket lich.
Do things with shape shift keep the ability once they're transformed? I assumed know but it would be interested if they still could
I want to use transformation to turn my 9 hitpoint pretender for Gath to something with preferably full slots and having more hp. If your nation has healers their is basically no bad result other than death. To prevent death I want to test if my rainbow pretender can cast twice born and then cycle through transformation (under misfortune 2 scales) looking for a good transformation and being able to negate death because of twice born.

Great video! I noticed a lot of the transformation results have undisciplined; does this not matter for commanders? Also, LA Ctis wight mages (or any undead) can reanimate if they have a priest level, which means former Sauromancers can do it too. Edit: Just saw the other comment, so it doesn't matter, cool. :D

The LA Ctis part matters, thanks I didn't notice in testing. I fixed up the chart in the vid description.
I just noticed that fire and cave drakes have bonus magic paths in the mod inspector, but not the transformation tag. That's gotta be an oversight, especially considering that the other two drakes have it.

Also, why can't we transform into unicorns? That's the real oversight.
So im using the mod called dominions enhanced, the nation tartary has two nature, 2 death and 1 random. I can cast transformation then twice born, to make a super combatant and if he dies a pretty good death mage.
Doesn't the undisciplined make the mages kinda useless? I noticed that on several chassis.

Nope! You can script them just fine. I'm not certain if there's any negatives that come with a commander being undisciplined. Even the siege strength seems untouched.

Yeah there's no issues with using them in combat. I imagine the transformation spell would be quite useless otherwise, as nearly all chassis are undisciplined. Thanks though, probably something I should have touched upon in the video.
Ind has healers as a summon (Arel), which is not represented on the chart

Ind also has Nature/Death mages with fairly high upkeep as well as negative traits you might want to get rid of (unrest causing)
