This makes me want to watch you play a multiplayer game with battletoads and sneaky bat mages.

Finally 🐸! Looking towards Lucid's MP game with Ma Xib. Shame that I don't have much time nowadays:/ Frogs should definitely not be underestimated!

I wish there was a way to get a weapon-bless working on the dart-throwers - always want to try to make that work when there's a non-innate ranged-weapon sacred. Maybe Thunder Weapons, so you can also get Air to summon Chaac? But there's not much for good Air pretender chassis; Teotl of the Sky is the only one, and that doesn't have Earth so you're not getting Larger as well without paying through the nose. Ends up at -1 scales with six candles, dormant. A rainbow chassis gets you an extra scale, a single candle, or a point of two of magic for the same bless and timing, don't think any of those are worth the switch away from a titan.

Squeezing in a few muuch (sacred) dart throwers would be an interesting thing to try with the scales/larger bless build. They only cost 2 more resources than the basic frog warriors, but contribute some nifty weapons (paralyzing darts and poison spears) which can help take down harder to kill foes. Their favorite bless is Larger- they throw darts farther with higher strength, and deal more damage with them, and also get more HP to allow themselves to get hit and proc their poison skin ability. You wouldn't really be able to mass them but mixing in 5 per turn or so could be a nice upgrade.

All Ma Xib's sacred are quite expensive in rec points. The purple dart throwers might not be resource-intensive compared to the other sacred, but still costs you fair amount of recruitment points and gold. This forces you to take additional order scales and dominion points, which you might not want. In addition, if you have mixed squads, they won't fire, so they are just expensive naked limited troops with poison spears. And in expansion, without going full-on elites, mass is often more important. Larger might be a decent thug bless for frogs though if not a good sacred bless (you are losing on attack density). Our Everyone is Xibalba game showed that Muuch Kuhul can be quite a dangerous thug if their paths are flicked around a little.

@@colombodoesstuff7653 i think the point is allowing you to tank sloth, since basically only your sacred muuch need more than 8 resouces - and you can crank out a fair few dart throwers with dom7 and turmoil 2

@@colombodoesstuff7653 you just need something tough to back up your toad chaff, and sacred dart throwers work well enough

@@yugonostalgia8961 "fair few" is 7, often just 6 because you will be recruiting some sacred stuff. I am not sure they give you anything over the basic spear guys. They have equal stats, lack shield and their only advantage (if you don't keep them in a separate squad) is that they can carry bless, have a poisonous spear, which won't help you during expansion much because the combat should be resolved before poison have time to do much damage. I would buy two basic spear guys for the same price instead. I tried to use all Ma Xib's sacred and find a good bless for them where they could expand, but without muuch success. Massed spear muuch are muuch more reliable and have a better staying power, there is safety in masses after all. If it works for you, I would like to see results, but I haven't been able to make the stuff work reliably, if at all. The dart-throwers especially have no survivability, no matter what bless you put on them. Using them as counter-sacreds or with late-game buffs, once you can afford to recruit them, is another matter entirely.

Do you ever make an assassin your prophet at the start of the game? I tried that with LA Vaettiheim (just in SP), and wow, that assassin was great against indie commanders! If you don't need a prophet in expansion, that seems to help in taking really tough provinces by just killing their commanders. When I've tried assassins in the past, they failed too often. It really seemed to be a waste of money. Admittedly, I didn't try toads with an Enlarge bless. But that smite spell seems to be great in assassinations!

This was great to see I'll have to try assassin expansion next time I play. If I can give a small critique I think you switched to bronze units earlier then you should have it lost you some mass which I find slows expansion especially if you don't have any forests near by just my opinion though loved the video hope to see you struggle with them in a real game someday

One really dumb build I wanted to try was to take reforming flesh and spam twiceborn on the sacred mages by passing around Skull staffs. Surprisingly the Kuhul's lose 1 size but gain atk and def stats.

That was my strat in my latest Ma Xib game, with the Teotl of the Underworld with D, S and a bit of E for buffs (named Karen, every single commander was called The Manager). The ToU can expand against lighter indies, especially with armour, thanks to the mass of skeletons he comes with. Build-in fear, piercing resist means that the rest of the troops that filter through can be relatively harmless, killed in small numbers or will run away before dealing big damage. Early S and E buffs improved survivability, as well as Const 2 items. My strategy was that early on, Karen can be teleporting titan that can save my ass during the first war by hiding her and then teleporting on the enemy unprepared stack, this helped me win a strategic victory with R'lyeh. Later, she could cast some big D/S battlemagic or craft items and by empowering her in blood, I could easily heal her, preserving her utility even after accruing injuries. So far so good. The D bless was reforming flesh, which should preserve my battlemages and give me great thugs, as was your idea. The problem with that was that my D income was pitiful and twiceborn scales with size, so 15 gems for every Kuhul twiceborn (compare to 5 gems for twiceborning cap-only bat, which might be more important since they are cap limited and damn good mages). In the end, haven't manoeuvred myself to such an opportunity to utilize twiceborn heavily.

@@colombodoesstuff7653 Sounds like a cool strategy! I wonder if Well of Misery might make the strat more viable. Or if putting shrouds on undead mages might be good like liches or wraithlords or something.
