    Great guide! I play my psyker pretty similarly but I'm partial to the Dueling sword and I agree that all the staves are useful depending on team composition. Your segment on defensive fighting is so important not only to pskyer but all classes in general. I think many of the new players that are unfamiliar with tide game mechanics need to really grasp how defensive melee fighting works before they jump into T4/T5.

    So many times I've been playing with a crack squad who can snipe specials with CoD montage level skills just get split up and overrun by a basic horde of poxwalkers. Horde clearance and management is the absolute requirement in surviving being overwhelmed and avoiding chip damage, it's the fundamental gameplay of Tide games.

    For the Purgatus staff build, I also take the first feat, where I regen 30% toughness on gaining warp charge. As with the flame staff I get most uptime on warp charges gained of all. So basically I have this regen up a lot of the time, and if needed I brain burst once to get the regen going. But hey it's all personal preference anyway :D Good guide !

    Do you know if that feat will proc despite being at max charges? I naturally assumed that when you have max charges you can no longer benefit from the feat. At least not until you lose a charge to gain another, in order to proc the feat again.

    Force sword with deflector makes psyker one of the tankiest classes. Remember the sword has unlimited dodges you can kite anything in the game. And force sword has the strongest st push you can knockdown everything but the shield bois.

    Psyker was my first character and it felt bad as a noob. Why can't I use grenades? Why does brain burst feel so slow? Why is staff damage so low compared to guns? Why do the talents lack synergy? Why am I expected to micromanage some weak stacking buff? Where are the big power weapons? Much of these problems fade away through experience and unlocking the full talent tree. Staffs having essentially unlimited ammo is huge in a game all about managing resources and they are very varied. Brain burst sniping is not just insanely strong, it's insanely easy to use locking on to enemies that even a noob can do it and once again, is essentially free as long as you don't blow yourself up. Psyker melee is also fast enabling a mobile playstyle and much stronger when you hit headshots, especially the rapier style weapon similar to Saltzpier, incentivising accurate headstabs. Even just playing as the support guy in a team of big sluggers feels great, as it gives your team the space to shine as they reload and swing their slow power weapons whilst letting them have more ammo when you don't need any.

    1. Trauma Staff. I love that this staff wasn't just criticized like many. I definitely found a ton of value to it in deleting (into body parts) pretty sizable circles of a horde. My own staff also has near-max Peril Quell, which means I can generate a ton of Trauma and dump it for Toughness gain (I usually prefer toughness-on-quell so I can kill a lot of stuff, generate lots of peril early, and either dump it, or let it constantly tick down (while giving me ranged damage reduction) to give me toughness regeneration). 2. Ranged (ie non-staves). Absolutely love Lasgun and Recon Lasgun on Psyker. They just let you fill every role decently depending on what the group needs: * Horde? Melee (and occasionally 6-charge Ascendent Blaze) * Ranged? Lasgun/ReconLasgun * Specials? Either your gun or BB * Armor? BB (though this is definitely the weakest link of the bunch, as default BB speed isn't a very high rate of damage). 3. Tactical Axe. Given all your other advice definitely seems to ring true with my experiences with the various weapons, it was really interesting you recommended the Tactical Axe.. I always dismissed it as more of a Zealot weapon where you run it like Combat Blade (a crit-focused build where you hit weakpoints a lot and use the Zealot's attack speed buff to help it deal with hordes better). But I'm a huge fan of weapons with good dodge, and mine (on Pysker) is 80% mobility so I'll give it another shot. I think my main concern is it's definitely not an armor-killing axe (mine also has 80% damage AND penetration, and still only gets ~173 DPS vs. Crushers) and so if I'm not going to have good armor-killing ability I prefer to at least have great horde-clear (Catachan/Dueling).

    I love playing this class. It took a bit to master but I'm having a blast with the voidstrike staff. One mistake I often see are psykers who do not fully utilize brain burst. I rebound the Key to a spare mouse button for fast swaps between horde clear and elite deletion. It's ability to pre charge before targeting using right click is very handy for getting the drop on an elite when I hear one coming in. Also no line of sight requirement means that I can tag a mob and have it pop dodging around the corner. This class is an absolute beast when played well.

    Great guide! I’m close to 100 mission clears with my Psyker (third character rolled, wish I had picked it earlier!) and approve this information. I’m a big fan of the Purgatus staff, every other setup lacks that bliss of knowing every hoard is ripe for you to solo, and everyone else can cover a different angle or special threat. The only thing I’d add is info on the 4th tier feat that a few other youtubers cover that let you block and gain peril instead of stamina. it can be quite clutch in a higher difficulty scenario where you’re surrounded and gotta push your way back to cover. Also the infamous Deflector blessing for the Force Sword but I personally find it niche unless you manage to get a LOT of Block Efficiency on curios, so it’s more of an end game grind build regardless. My only wish is I could find more Ogryns in my quickplays. 😢

    Most fanatics I see run flamethrower since it's so strong and ammo efficient, nothing worse than seeing 2 people with flamethrowers though it does make hordes hilariously easy. Lightning staff brings something completely unique to the group no other class can and CC whilst being overwhelmed is a godsent so everyone has time to reload, clean up backstabbers and charge heavy attacks.

    personal experience with the Purgatus, you can stagger the big boys and mutants using the left click one or two bursts get the stagger effect, channeled is random when it kicks in. Maybe it’s based off of the burn stack count on the channeled? Every content creator that mentions Purgatus always says the same thing in regards to that.

    New to psyker, so sorry if this is a dumb question. What do we use the primary fire of the staff for? I have the low level staff that puts the AOE circle on the floor, the jack of all trades staff, LMB fires some blue stuff that doesn't seem to do much damage, but increases the madness meter. What do I use this for, or should I stop using it and do something else?

    So, what you do, make a veteran character, get a power sword, and spam special attacks for horde clear, get a bolter and clear everything on the map that is not a melee horde unit. I played psyker quite a bit and all i feel is, man, veteran would have done that faster, while also easily killing all ranged on the map. I hope they everyone to the lvl of veteran with a nerfed power sword(after they nerf it again, the one we got was kinda weak)

    In before you play T5, 2 crusher and 2 bulwark at the start of the map, and one crusher/rager/bulwark every 10m. Add on 30 shooters every new "room". Tell me how you can sustain 80+15 shared across 4 players (hopefully some are psykers, no ammo needed for them)? Vet on paper with infinite ammo, someone constantly protecting him from stray poxwalker and distracting disablers for him will make vet the ultimate class for damnation. But add ammo scarcity (like really, try damnation on any map, the first minute of dropping down into the first corridor you will face at least 2 crushers and 30 shooters, something that will definitely drain at least half of your bolter ammo) and ragers/maulers WITHIN horde (which will cause a lot of problems for powersword due to lack of stagger) and vet will fall slightly short. I do understand vet is the KING of ranged killing. But to me psyker is the king of versatility with an attack for EVERY range. Psyker has lowest stamina recharge delay (meaning any melee weapon can use push attack FOREVER) Psyker has no aim furthest range BB (to get rid of pesky snipers WITHOUT exposing yourself at all) Psyker has best hordeclear (no ammo requirement flamer with purg staff) Psyker has the ONLY CC weapon that can stop mutants/dogs/poxbursters (surge) Psyker CAN do damage to carapace without needing any weapons (BB), so you can pick and choose any weapon without compromise. (try carrying a devil sword with lasgun for vet, have fun with crushers) Psyker has the 2nd best tanking with kinetic deflection talent. Psyker has a block ranged attack button (deflector force sword) The only thing psyker is worst in is that, its a jack of all trades, master of none. While vet is a master of ranged, psyker cannot be one. Neither is psyker the master of melee (that goes to zealot) or the master of tanking (ogryn)

  • @teamcap4038

    @teamcap4038

    @@shawnaw2 Vet has passive for ammo maintanence, im not saying 4 vets is the best damnation clear, even tho it deff gonna be easier then 4 psykers, im saying vet has the easiest tool for every situation, ogryn is better dealing with armor, while still controling the horde, i have no idea why you would ever use a devil sword on vet, power sword still op, with special you ignore enemy mass, so you kill horde while doing good dmg to ragers and maulers. the only real problem is bulwarks, and bulwarks are beaten by teamwork, like psyker is not useless, he is just worse at everything than a vet, since he needs a windup for bb, hordeclear. Pox, mutants can be stunted by zealot or ogryn ult, so surge is not special in that case. He is usefull, you can just have 2 vets (one lasgun one bolter) a zealot and an ogryn, and the team will not have any holes. And no, ammo is not a problem in this game, you can have low ammo at times, but if you don't perma shoot and use brain it's not hard to have ammo for specials and elites all the time. The only argument for psyker is ignoring supression and not having to go out off cover to kill targets, but feats and blessings fix all this problems for vets.

    Purgatus may be great for soloing packs, but when it's dark it makes picking out priority targets in a crowd near impossible for the rest of the group, with the way it turns everything into dark bodies on a dark background, with bright patches of flame scattered over them in a way that completely breaks up silhouettes. A lot of the time playing vet or zealot with a bolter, I had to fire blind. Surge on the other hand /perfectly outlines bodies/ (and makes sparks on them while it's charging), while limiting movement for easier headshots, and the way it locks on and targets anything in range, even through cover, you can use it to 'scan' for enemies your team can't see yet.
