I NEVER let my dog play outside unless I am there to supervise, and even then he's on a long leash (30-feet long) just in case I have to pull him back to me because of some emergency. Coyotes have become a real problem in recent years. I think part of the problem could be that we are developing a lot of real estate in areas that were previously wilderness, but another part of the problem is that coyotes are quickly becoming habituated to us and losing their fear of humans. If this continues (and it probably will) there are going to be even more frightening encounters between humans (and their pets and kids) and coyotes, and some of those encounters could end very badly. This is yet another reason why people should own guns! If you live in a wild area that has bears, cougars, bobcats, coyotes or even wolves, then not having a firearm for protection is just extremely foolish.

My little one year old 8lb female chihuahua was just recently attacked by 3 coyotes in hunting mode. They used the Classic coyote Tactic of one acts as the bait, and gets the attention of the watchful dog in the yard. When the dog runs after it, the bait leads it away to where the other 2 ( in this case) were waiting to spring the trap. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle, and the sheer grit of our brave little girl. She found herself in a fight for her life against 3 large killers. A stranger working on the bike path, that parallels the river wash adjacent to the yard, heard her cry’s and was able to cover the incredible distance in seconds and saw them carry her down the steep concrete embankment before loosing sight of her. He managed to scare them away by yelling and throwing rocks. He then saw her limping from out behind the weeds. He climbed down and took her to the vet and undoubtedly saved her life. Latter he found me sitting next to the puddles of dried smeared blood at the place they took her down into the wash. the only sign I was able to find after looking for 3 hours up and down the wash following what began as coyote tracks but quickly faded. We would have never known that she was alive and would’ve thought that she was breakfast had he not come back and seen me there. We desperately need help raising funds to cover the extremely high vet bill. Please help our dear little Lily come home and forward this on to as many people as you can. Thank you. gofund.me/c426eb6b

It's not about demonizing anyone or anything. It's about protecting your own safety and the safety of your pets and your children, plain and simple. Nature lovers and Wiccan goddess worshippers have been smoking way too much marijuana and have forgotten that nature can be extremely brutal at times. You have an obligation to protect what is yours, to protect yourself, your loved ones, your animals, etc. Giving coyotes permission to invade your private space doesn't make you a good person. It makes you a weak person and a potential victim. Sometimes good guys have to play rough in order to protect themselves, their homes and their communities. Otherwise you're just another pacifist sucker who keeps on turning the other cheek even after the enemy has punched you in the face a hundred times.

@@MathematicalCowboy One of the saddest things is that the coyote doesn't know what human society is ... The Coyote never knows about you and your possessions. It is only an animal that wanders in search of food when it is hungry, just as we humans did tens of thousands of years ago. When humans hunt animals ... do we need to find out if the animal has a husband and wife or a son and daughter? One day, the babies of animals are waiting for their parents and if their parents cannot come home. The reason is that the parents are killed by a human hunter. (Let's think about babies without guardian/protector) Again, should we find out about animal family relationships before hunting animals? * Human do not rule the nature, but should live as friends of the nature.

@@younggun454 Do you have children? Do you have pets? Do you live in an area where you have to coexist with potentially dangerous predators? Do you know what it feels like when a coyote or wolf or cougar or bear attacks you? It never ceases to amaze me how many times people defend dangerous predators. They don't care at all about human safety. All they care about is protecting animal rights. What about the rights of people? What about my right to be safe in my own backyard and in my own neighborhood? Maybe it doesn't matter to you, but it certainly does matter to me. And it matters to almost everyone else as well.

I have 3 red Shiba Inu and people always ask if they’re a fox or coyote lol! In my experience Shibas are killing machines, a coyote would be a pretty fair match one on one but no way would a shiba take down a pack of them. Glad Pan’s owners went out there in time and that the vet was able to save his ear.

A yote will never intrude onto a larger dogs territory. One German Shepherd will keep yotes away. Yotes are not stupid, they will not risk injury. They want your little sissy lap dog as a meal. A GSD will kill any yote that is stupid enough. I have 4 GSDs, never seen a yote on my property or anywhere near, but my dogs howl at the yotes in the distance.

@@jimquantic When dogs go crazy and attack people or kids, I think it's usually because of stupid owners and negligence. When bears, cougars, wolves, bobcats and coyotes attack people it's because of most people are not prepared to deal with dangerous wild animals. Also, please check your statistics. I am certain that it's more than 3 bites per year. Just in the Presidio of San Francisco alone, there are many coyotes who threaten people and especially their pets. Do you have kids? Do you own pets? Has a wild animal ever bitten you? When you're responsible for a animal's safety, when you have a kid to protect, when a wild animal takes a bite out of your arm.... then I wonder what your attitude is going to be???

I agree, but guns and gun training are expensive, and people who live in big cities, especially in blue states, are total anti-gun nuts. For the average person bear spray and a strong flashlight are probably recommended. The average city slicker is afraid of guns. Also, what I will NEVER understand is why these dog owners send their dogs out alone in the backyard. If you live in an area that has a known coyote population, that is just the dumbest thing to do. Sure, take your dog out to your backyard. That's OK, but then play with him in the backyard or walk around the backyard with him. Otherwise you are taking a big risk. Now if you own three or four BIG dogs and they are strong and healthy, then OK. Maybe they can defend themselves against a pack of coyotes, but even then there's risk involved. I mean.... how many people in America own a dog like the Ovcharka or Dogo Argentino? (Those dogs could EASILY bring down a coyote or even a coywolf hybrid, but how many people really have dogs like that?)
