My family have and still own a Kia Sorento 2011, Kia Sportage 2013, Kia Optima 2017, Kia Forte 2019. Absolutely no problems or issues that were mentioned. Only normal maintenance and replacement of brakes, shocks etc. I’ve always looked at Toyota, but I found them cheaply made, not as solid, and compared driving ability, but always ended up with a Kia. Will go with a company like Kia who backs their cars with a 10 yr warranty than a company that only backs up their vehicles with only 5 yrs. That alone tells you something. Everything is exaggerated and a lot of misinformation is made over the internet. Please compare a Camry to an Optima.

I had a 99 Camry bought used with 75k miles. Drove it to around 250K doing basic oil changes and brakes, and it was finally killed by a young inattentive driver who ran into her side. Currently own an 06 Avalon, Bought it used with 132K on it. 5 years on, now with around 230k, still running strong. Maintenance performed since owning it: oil changes, brakes, coolant flush and new water pump. Those two vehicles were purchased as my daily drivers. In between them, after the Camry was totaled, I leased a 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T. Drove it out of the lot, got home. Started it up the next morning, and heard a rod knock. Returned it to the dealer the next day, and to make a long story short, it got its engine replaced (Known problem with those engines at that time). I will NEVER buy another Hyundai/Kia/Genesis for as long as I live; same as VW/Audi/Porsche and Ford.

93 octane solves the problem w/those 12,5 compression ratio direct injection issues. Try it, knock may go away. Also try a thicker Oil.. 0W20W is darned darned thin, I'd give 5w 20 or 30 a shot, and be sure the oil filter you use has a One Way valve that should get quicker oil pressure at startup. Ford had this issue with their early Modular DOHC 4.6 engines. Oil pressure chain tensioner issue.

I think a lot of issues have to do with direct injection.. Use the high octane, get a couple MPG better, but enjoy the much improved smoothness and quietness. Regular gas is so close to detonation with these high compression GDI.. works superbly on my Kia Carnival 3.5 V6. Kia's BEST Drivetrain under the Hood. Dual Injection both GDI and Port on this one. The Big Block these days.. No Turbo Req'd..

First Turbo replacement at 262.299km (162miles), today it's 272.532km, and the engine is still strong. The only down side is the suspensions and the a bit loud engine and the horrible horn sound, unlike the German and French double horns that sound sharp and louder.

The 2.0 LU engines with the 6 speed IVT transmissions are well put together and can compete with Toyotas any day of the week they are truly Toyotas and Hondas competitors. I would agree they had a big increase in quality if it wasn't for the massive Theta II engine, DCT transmission, and theft problems (selling cars without immobilizers - the "Kia boys"). My 2017 Sonata burns about a quart of oil every thousand miles. Toyota would never release an engine that bad or if they did they wouldn't keep selling it after knowing it was bad (or they would just fix it's design problems). Although that being said... My first Sonata (2003) lasted 325,000 miles on the original engine and transmission with minimal problems. My 2017 Sonata has been 100% reliable for 100k miles outside of the engine that will eventually fail.

In the late 80's, the Hyundia Excel was one of the cheapest cars new, like $6K. It was one of the biggest P.O.S.'s known to man, besides the Yogo? I have never seen one go past 55K. They would be in the junk yard at less than 60K. My father bought a 05" Santa Fe. It was geared so bad, it would get less than 14 miles per gallon. No a very reliable car. I told him not to buy it, but he found out the hard way. Again, told him not to buy the 02" Honda Civic Hybrid, cause it was the first year, and he had tons of trouble with it? The trans. failed at 50K and lots of other things were failing. Not a fan of imports, am a master mechanic, and have had nothing but expensive nightmares with brand new cars from Nissan.
