Does This Kia Last Longer Than a Toyota? (Kia Seltos vs Toyota Rav4)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

10 years ago, asking if a Kia was more reliable than a Toyota Rav4 would have been insane. I would have been laughed out of the building (or off of KZread), but today you might just be surprised. This comparison is much closer than it used to be, so let's do a Kia vs Toyota reliability comparison and talk about two of the very popular SUVs from these great companies.

Kia has a not impressive 2.0 liter engine with about 160 horse power paired with a cvt (time will tell if that cvt holds out and chances are people will dog the engine more to get up and going). I will mention the garbage upgrade of the smaller motor paired with a turbo which we all know the turbo will break down as soon as the warranty ends and that engine will be worn out too. On to Toyota, the base comes with a 2.5 liter engine with about 200'ish horse power paired with a 8 speed transmission which will probably last hundred of thousands of miles assuming you ignore any (lifetime doesn't need fluid replacement lie). People won't know about real quality until far more than a few years. The base Kia is msrp'ing about 25k'ish and the Toyota is msrp'ing at around 28k but IMO you might as well drop the 3k more and get the better vehicle.

Hyundai and Kia have made huge inroads with the value aspect of vehicles. Bang for your buck, QPR, however you want to say it. Toyota and Honda have always sold cars based on the long term reliability, ease of care and maintenance, availability of parts, etc. But as you mention, both are experiencing some quality issues and moving into new territory with their engines and electronics. But at the end of the day, its just all about what you want in a vehicle, and how long you want to own it for.

Toyota is making some decisions that I think are mistakes as you accurately pointed out, but throughout my lifetime I've been hearing how Kia's of today are nothing like they were made 10 years ago. Whether they are or not, they don't have bulletproof engines is the bottom line for me. I think they have become more demand because they spend more on styling and on marketing. Until I see examples of engines and transmissions from them consistently lasting past 200,000 mile mark I will not be impressed. Pretty much everyone I know that has had one has an engine fail before 100,000 miles. I don't know a major manufacturer that has been as consistently trouble some.

Very well stated...it's all about Show and Tell, not substantive reliability and longevity with the engines. I would like to see an analysis of the percentage of their engines make it to 100,000 miles before burning oil and throwing rods. My 90 Honda Accord had 270,000 plus miles when I let it go (engine still get 20 plus mpg in city), and I reached 298, 000 miles on a Honda 95 Odyssey when a wind shear/tornado blew out the windows that were too expensive to replace. The Hyundai handshake leaves much to be desired.

Last November, I traded for a 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Feels bumpy on Regular, 3 less MPG.. almost a ping, but not quite. The SX Prestige interior and sound system, and everything is absolutely superb. Couldn't be happier.. Very Quiet.. very agile w/ just FWD. The Cameras! Driver Aids.. This is truly a great car for a great price. I ordered mine, took 10 weeks from Korea.. Got it for MSRE! Kia's are for people who can't afford a Toyota or Honda but have enough money to forego public transportation. Kia/Hyundai, unlike Toyota, will try and reneg on their extended warranties. Hyundai marketing fluff; their life-time drive train warranty which is a ploy considering all the exclusions. Plus, no Kia will ever see ten years or 100K miles in service without a warranty excluded mechanical disaster taking it down first. At least Toyota buyers can park their cars in their garages and not worry about a pyromaniac Kia/Hyundai burning down the house. Kias are also easy to steal, the hooligans love 'em, but even they know enough to dump them after a night out.

You can buy a 2007 tundra with 175k miles on it ( if it’s been properly maintained ) and get another 150-200k miles out of it!

People who still think Toyota is better in all aspects than Kia/Hyundai are living in the dark ages. The Koreans surpassed Toyota's build quality and materials quality nearly 20yrs ago. They've also got much better tech in them in the last few years. Both the RAV4 and the Seltos have had major issues in the past with faulty engine piston rings causing the engines to burn massive amounts of oil. The RAV4 about 10yrs ago was having problems with the interior build quality being really poor.

From what I've seen in the present models, kia still needs to step it up in the quality department. Thanks M, great content. ✌️💚

Very interesting People can learn what is going on Re Electric water pumps in Toyotas engines? Is a German Engineering with Japanese parts BMW is a German engineer with very cheap Chinese Parts. Sample compare Japanise Bearing V,s Chinice one you getting the answer. Chinese build cars today have high-quality parts not German ones from garbage recycle metals. Germany the biggest con artists in the world know well how to make people stupid and believe what saying to them. Politics play the games of pure $$$ to the politician's pockets The recalls going for the Business expense what bringing to less pay the Taxes. When we have too many criminals on the streets the Police force problem or the same corrupted. When recall becomes just a day normality means Political problems allowing for manufacture go so easy. Toyota is very connected with BMW In Spain build BMW cars for BMW. Toyota sees what is and today can be used to improve the efficiency of the engines. Toyota Supra why not have the same problems as BMW - are the same cars only one built in Germany with Chinese recycled parts and the other one built in Japan with Japanese parts.

I think that the Kia will last longer than the Toyota. For example, the older Sorento from the 2000's and the newer Telluride from today will last forever than any of these brand new, Toyota's, especially the Grand Highlander and the Sienna Hybrid. Thanks.

So, you "think" makes this a fact? Short list of Kia Sorrento issues before 60K miles: Engine failure Loss of power Faulty door handles Jerking with changing gear Headlights burnout Bad crankshaft pulley bolt Noisy air conditioner Electrical problems, such as faulty power windows, door locks, and mirrors Telluride (new models): LCD Malfunctions, EMC Power Control module (computer failure) Vibration in the steering wheel due to transmission problems Poor acceleration when driving on the freeway Wind noise and sound problems Defective windshields and sunroofs Toyota Highlander issues: Fuel pump malfunction, factory recall, repair Siena issues: Sliding door can malfunction, factory recall repair.

As a technician the real fact is Toyotas and Honda are 10 times better built and they will outlast any KIA and Hyundai vehicles in 10 to 15 years no exceptions.

I still do not doubt that toyota is all time legend in reliability but its surprising to see how fast kia and hyundai is catching up price, options and now reliability while keeping cheap maintenance
