This may be happening because most plastics are hydrophilic so boiling them makes them more ductile as they get saturdated with water. The 3d printing community knows about this well and some people boil their nylon 3d printed parts for this reason and keep their filament in a dry box. Nylon if not stored in a dry box can absorb so much moisture from the air that pockets of moisture will boil creating a popping noise and ruin your print. But if you add the moisture after the fact the part gets stronger and pliable. I may test this out by weighing some new bushings and boiling them then measure again to see if they absorb water.

There was this thing called the "octopus" where you put a bearing in each sock, and you have to take one side of the last sock and overlap it over the rest to make an (octopus) and throw it the dryer and that's supposed to loosen the lubricant so the bearings can be broken in quick!!!

Ben i'm 46 in 3 days and just got my first setup in over 20 years. Your vids have been a great help. Thanks so much. Can you tell me what jeans you are wearing at the 2 and a half minute mark? Cheers.
Well... didn't expect this topic 😀👍
Very Thankful for your videos and tips ..SuperDuper!
I want more Frankie footage. That was a nice BS 180.
Old Indy's look so rad , I kinda wish they would keep an older series. I just found OldSkull Skateboards , they have a cool selection of some late 80's and early 90's decks 😀 For us older dudes its a killer site but for you slightly not as old Popsicle kids its not as fun.
U just really made my coronacation much more enjoyable with a new video
Review the new Quasi acid ply deck and tell us what the technology does
Frankies got the camera beam DOWN! go Frankie
Thanks Ben! 👍🏻
Can u review polar decks that would be great. Great vid btw
There was this thing called the "octopus" where you put a bearing in each sock, and you have to take one side of the last sock and overlap it over the rest to make an (octopus) and throw it the dryer and that's supposed to loosen the lubricant so the bearings can be broken in quick!!!
You should do a review on those half cabs I see them👀
You should make a video on the different bushing hardness
"Alright! They're nice, gooshy, and warm.. ;) " - Ben Degros, April 2020
I’m not sure if this will work for everyone but I try put bushing in oil and that made them looser for a couple of days. I used lawnmower oil because that’s what I had laying around but maybe some oil made for silicone would make them stay looser for awhile
Ben,I will do it with the thunder hards!
so half cabs for now can we get a sneak peak on how u like em?

Absolutly new Information for me 👍
I’ve done this for the last few years cause I skate looser trucks as well and I feel it helps loosen them up.
Riptide indy tall bushing with a bones bushings on top is the best bushing combo ever
ayyy thanks for supporting the killing floor!
That's a solid head of hair for a sk8 dad.
Will you review the Last Resort AB skate shoes when they release? Last Resort AB is a skate shoe brand by Pontus Alv. Personally I am really looking forward to these shoes.
Should have add some coffee or tea while your at it, lol..JK Ben..i just woke up.. long ago i tried to put my Brand new Bushings on d freezer to harden them up. for whatever reason, i feel so lost with my self after that haha..nice vid, keep em coming Mr.Ben
Used to do this with my indys about 20 years ago. Recently suggested it to a mate n he genuinely thought I was taking the piss. 😂 This video has reaffirmed my faith in the ways of old. Keep em coming. Content is great as always. 👍👍👍
I’ve been looking to get some new Indy bushings. Have you tried the conical shaped Indy bushings? If so difference compared to the standard bushings?
are you related to Ted Degros? I remember him from a long time ago, and just randomly came across your how to build a ledge video. subbed. you have some good videos and are hella good at skating. I quit quite a few years ago and miss it.

Review your vans half cabs
My question is after boiling bushings and letting them cool, do they indeed get softer? Does it lower the durometer? Or died it just break them in? Also how long did boil the bushings? 5 min or 10 min? I longboard so my choices are venom or riptide. I weigh 135lbs so the stock bushings at 90a are too hard for me.
could u do a video of you trying to skate a super steep setup (Steep deck, tall trucks, big wheels, risers) and skating a super mellow setup (Flat deck, short trucks, small wheels) Just an Idea🙂

What about the trick of keeping your wheels in the freezer before you use them, making them lasts longer/preform better? That's a hack I remember as a kid in the 90's and I've always done it even though I highly doubt it has any effect.

Interesting. I will need to remember this. I took a 13 year old board apart yesterday that had Indys on it. I thought there would be a marking on the bottom that told me the size or model but, is just stamped U.S. how do I determine what they are so I know what I have in reserve?

If you know for a fact it is a 13 year old setup, then I would say those are probably Stage 9 or Stage 8 Independent trucks if those trucks ever came from an even older board setup. Would have to measure the size to figure the exact size model out. Some additional pointers on what those trucks can be can be found here by the way: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Truck_Company
