This. THIS is the video. Nothing left to change. No “close enough” solid, methodical and a step by step proceed. Giving all the “why’s” bang on video, man. Thank you. We have the same brain. Yours just has this info that mine didn’t. Very understandable.

Thanks for taking the time to share the knowledge. Nitro rc cars are almost rare in 2023. I walk into local hobby shops with my vintage traxxas or even my ofna racing buggy and they look at me like Im crazy. They dont even have any nitro for sale. They try to push electric on me. They have little to NO knowledge of nitro. Wont even look up parts for me half the time. Whats funny is as soon as I fire one up. Everyone in the store comes running. They always want to see them run. Was tuning my traxxas earlier this week I had an entire construction crew of guys hooting and hollering. I let them drive it around a bit and they looked like kids at xmas.

It's been two years so I figured I would check in. I did follow through and I can say without a doubt that this video definitely improved my performance at the track. I rarely, if ever, flame out in a race and the car just works. The brakes are never trying to overstep the engine or vice versa. The engine always reliably comes back to idle and the brakes don't stall it. Thank you for this video!!

I love how start with the theory (very good visuals of the engine and carb btw) and then move on the practically side of tuning. This is a must see for everyone who is still struggling with tuning. Also the production of the video is very good. 10/10! I’m looking forward to the next one.

A rather long video, but extremely helpful. A lot of other videos I've seen on the topic seem to "gloss over" the specifics. Being able to see the change in comparison to good/lean/rich is super helpful. I've not purchased a nitro before, but this certainly is helping me get the confidence I need to make the leap into nitro. Can't thank you enough!

Thank you JQ, When I got Into this hobby 12 years ago I went with electric buggy’s because when I would go to the tracks, nitro vehicles were always having trouble starting, running and finishing. After a couple hours and 4-5 battery packs later when I’m leaving, I’d see the nitro guys still trying to tune and run their vehicles...SMH. Your detailed explanation is something I get and understand, I now have a better understanding and will look at trying out a nitro buggy... again Thank you!!

For measuring the idle gap: The shank end (the part that goes in the drill chuck) of a precision drill bit or what are called 'pin gauges' would be an easier tool to use. They are round and fit in that space more easily. The pin gauges would most likely be more expensive, and are precision measuring tools machinists use for gauging similar situations. The precision drill bits come in small sets and cane be found at many places dealing with hobbies and crafts. Just measure the shank end of the bit with you calipers ( most of the time the shank is slightly smaller than the labeled drill bit size )

JQ, this is probably the best video anyone has ever made regarding how to properly tune an engine. I started racing 8th scale nitro buggy when I was 17. I am now 30. Only after watching this, do I fully understand how to properly tune a nitro engine. The explanations and analogies you provided helped everything make sense. For me, there was always something slightly off about the tune on my engines when I raced, and I would just accept getting an engine in the ballpark. I wish this video would have been made 13 years ago :) Subscribed!

Neat how every screw on that carb has an o ring on it. I've got a 20 year old Ofna with a Force 3.5 and its carb has a high speed needle and mixture control valve but no low speed needle. It's been a lot of fun to work on and learn tuning on. Thanks for the great video.

I was about to give up with nitro, because I just could never get a reliable tune, or sometimes couldn't even start my engine. I watched every video I could find, and tried to find articles that explain what the needles actually do, but nothing I found properly explained what's physically happening inside the engine. Very frustrating! I'm so excited about having an actual handle on what's going on now. Thank you so much for making this! 🤘

Thank you so much for the time and hard work this video obviously took to create, it is a fantastic educational video. Already understanding many nitro fundamentals I have never heard anybody explain the two stage idle and never understood it, but kinda just accepted it. I can't wait to attempt to tune it out of my engines.

I learned so much from this video, Thank You for putting this together. I had a hard time tuning my Nitro Buggy because I was new and there are no tracks near me to get any information so everything I could find was on KZread. No other video explained why my idle was reving high but would drop after a couple of seconds or a blip of the throttle. Now I know it was the HSN was to lean, I richenend it a little, and got the LSN straightened out, now it idles propely.

Hey JQ, my 3rd time viewing this video as I have moved on to much better engines and different needs from them. I took many notes this time! So when I am outside and it does this or that, I can refer to the tuning manual which you’ve provided and hopefully get it right far quicker! Thanks again, and for the record, I’m American and hate that we don’t use the metric system!!! Have a good one, I’ll be referring anyone I know to this video! 👍
