How To: Setup A Carburetor

I go through the procedure I use to do an initial setup of a carb. This can be done at any time when you think you have lost the settings and your engine isn't running properly.

    I got lost while trying to keep my engine running but won't stay running because my settings were out of whack. I do know where my high speed position supposed to be but for the low speed needle is where I got lost, now seeing this video, I'm going back to the airfield to try this, thank you man! I hope this works for me 'cause I was frustrated because not too many people know about setting and I'm new to glow engine and the hobby. Again thanks so much! You now have a new subscriber.

    Your the best man, I’ve been an electric guy from start but have been collecting glow planes as they seem to obsolete here unfortunately. I’ve been building and trying to give these old planes s new life. Thanks a million you have given me some extra ambition get them in the air. Keep up the awesome work.

    Thanks for one of easiest ways to explain this process. I bought an old Carl Goldberg Freedom 20. I kew nothing about glow engines, I fly all electric, but I followed your video and it started right up. After cleaning it. It didn't look like it was ran very much. It still need help, but I think it's a matter of getting all the adjustments just right. It's not an expensive engines, but I think I'll buy more used ones and clean them up. Thanks.

    Blowing air into the fuel inlet helped me to get my Moki 180 running. The carb has a dial style low end mixture adjustment. By blowing air into the fuel inlet, I discovered that I was misunderstanding the plus/minus marks on the dial. The next step is to upgrade to large fuel line. Thanks again

    Looks easy enough to me, thanks. I knew there had to be an easier way to set up a carb than what the manual says. I prefer to do things the way you do them, as I have done many small engine repairs in my life, this type of carb is different for me but I KNEW someone had an old timer method of getting these nitro engines tuned at a starting point. With most engines you would use an ear anyways. I have had people ask me about RPMs and I just stare at them. Anyone working around engines long enough ,doesnt need a meter to tune an engine. At least I never have. I could set the carbs on a twin cylinder snowmobile by ear to out race anything on the track using my ear and a spark plug wrench( to read the plugs).

    I read on a site about how RC carburetors work, they say to never bottom out a low speed mixture screw, it could change the opening of the jet and cause tuning difficulties.

    How many carbs have you had apart? You can do the same thing with a high speed needle if you close it too tightly. Many carbs have different types of spray bar assemblies. So your general statement only applies to certain types of carbs and how 'ham fisted' you are.

    just set it so air is shut off when throttle is shut but as it starts to open you should hear air start to flow. top end speed has to be what ever from this. Once you start engine it then take no time to set it total.

    I don't use the the throttle stop screw. I use my throttle trim to be able to kill the engine. Being able to kill the engine from your remote is far safer.

  • @Hans45

    Hi, my carburettor does not have a high speed valve, but only a throttle stop and a idle screw. I can see that it once has had a "remote needle valve" i think it's called. Would this have the same effect as the high speed screw on the carburettor in the video?

  • @budmartin8297

    @budmartin8297

    2 жыл бұрын

    yes, it's a remote needle valve instead of a needle valve on the carb.

    Nice video! I have a noob question... So I have a surpass fs-70 and the carburator like others have the throttle Barrel with a spring in the bottom , my doubt is that that spring is to push the barrel out and take care of the slop that exists, but if I'm running the engine and push the throttle barrel against the spring with for example my finger then it will move a little and the needle will close a bit and that would be sufficient to change the mixture and for example cease the engine... The spring is a new os original so I would like you to help me to understand if this is normal and why...

  • @dmrcflyr2

    @dmrcflyr2

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes it is possible to affect the running and mixture settings by pushing in on the carb barrel. In normal operation there is nothing pushing in on the barrel so..... What is the issue?
