Do You Hear the People Sing

Ойын-сауық

This is a live performance from the conclusion of the 10th Anniversary Concert for "Les Miserables." There are subtitles hardcoded into this video, which means you don't have to turn them on, and you can't turn them off. I put them in so more people around the world could understand what was being sung.
It begins with the conclusion of the performance itself, and something which began only with the first English language performances, is an encore performance at the conclusion of the cast performing the song, "Do You Hear the People Sing." Here you have the cast that performed the musical on the stage, as well as hundreds from performances all across the world, gathered together at this anniversary celebration. What it leaves you with is an astounding and glorious, and powerful performance of this song, with so much energy in it.
I followed it up with the section where they brought together 17 different men who have played the Jean Valjean character in different countries around the world. I have the subtitles there as well for each of the languages from each of the different countries, and it lets you hear beautiful, strong tenors in all the different cultures and languages. The languages represented include English, French, German, Japanese, Hungarian, Swedish, Polish, Dutch, Norwegian, Czech, Danish, and Icelandic.
And the finale of the Jean Valjean characters, when they are joined with all of the cast is just so powerful, just so full that it's hard to even imagine what it was like in person.
The editing isn't perfect, as I had to find different videos of the performance and try to time them perfectly, and seamlessly, including the audio itself. You may notice the "hiccup," in the brief moment as the video is switched from one performance to another, and then another.
I hope you enjoy it!

Fabulous performance of a fabulous song. Les Miserables is an incredibly stunning musical. I saw it twice and would go again if it is performed again locally.

35 years ago, exactly, I heard MASTER OF THE HOUSE at my aunt and uncle's house. It was the first song from this show I ever heard. No word of a lie, my mind was blown. Pretty soon after that, my dad started playing the full album, and I just could not believe my ears. One year later, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the national tour in Providence. Now, 35 years on, I still say it's one of the best musicals ever written. Fun fact, the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock said once that the story of Les Miserables would make a great musical. Talk about predictions!

  • @oscarphile

@@collin3987 I'd say it's close enough. It's completely sung-through, and although the score has as much pop and rock as it does classical and music hall among its many influences, opera singers have often been cast in many of these roles and tend to do very well in them. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it one day entered the opera repertoire officially, like Show Boat, A Little Night Music, The Pirates of Penzance, The Most Happy Fella, and Sweeney Todd all have done.

Absolutely fabulous, brilliant show inspired from a great book by Victor Hugo. Yes I know the music is universal and speaks to all languages, but do you think the producers could have featured a version in Italian, which happens to be the most musical language there is and Italy is the home of classical music. I suppose they would have given preference to click-clack, Chinese and Tagalog languages before Italian if they had more time. At least in Italian the song wouldn't resemblance a Hitler youth rally.

This is just a bridge from the soundtrack, pulled from a part of the soundtrack, to play as the various Jean Valjeans from 17 different places where Les Miserables was performed. It's not its own song, per se.
